The EDISON is a platform that supports numerical analysis for problem solving in computational science and engineering. We provide a cloud service for users, and provide an environment to access and execution of the simulation service on the web. For now, the EDISON platform provides simulation services for eight applied field on computational science engineering. Users can check the numerical analysis result by web in the computational science and engineering platform. In addition, various services such as community activity with other researchers, and the configuration of simulation environment by user 's needs can be provided. A representative service of the EDISON platform is a web-based simulation service that performs numerical analysis for problem solving of various computational science and engineering. Currently, EDISON platform provides workbench simulation service. It is the web-based simulation execution environment, and result analysis to provide simulation regardless of various personal computing resource or environment in each numerical analysis. In this paper, we build an interface for pre and post processor that can be used in conjunction with the workbench-based simulation service provided by EDISON platform. We provide a development environment with interface that is implemented by applying a pre and post processor optimized for the simulation service. According to simulation and execution are performed by linking the new workbench-based simulation service to the pre and post processor.

The EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net (EDISON) platform, which is a web-based platform that provides computational science and engineering simulation execution environments, can offer various analysis environments to students, general users, as well as computational science and engineering researchers. To expand the user base of the simulation environment services, the EDISON platform holds a challenge every year and attempts to increase the competitiveness and excellence of the platform by analyzing the user requirements of the various simulation environment offered. The challenge platform system in the field of computational science and engineering is provided to users in relation to the simulation service used in the existing EDISON platform. Previously, EDISON challenge servicesoperated independently from simulation services, and hence, services such as end-user review and intermediate simulation results could not be linked. To meet these user requirements, the currently in-service challenge platform for computational science and engineering is linked to the existing computational science and engineering service. In addition, it was possible to increase the efficiency of service resources by providing limited services through various analyses of all users participating in the challenge. In this study, by analyzing the simulation and usage environments of users, we provide an improved challenge platform; we also analyze ways to improve the simulation execution environment.

This paper deals with a design of a platform to simulate PRT vehicle operational control algorithms using on-board embedded process board. The configuration of the platform is composed of the central control module, the station control module, man-machine interface and monitoring module. Since PRT system needs inherently very reliable vehicle operational control algorithm in order to avoid the impact between vehicles, it is very important to construct a simulation platform to test a designed vehicle operational control algorithm during the development process For the test of the proposed platform a path of the each moving vehicle is predefined in the central control system before the dispatch order is given to the vehicle. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed simulation platform for test and evaluation of the PRT operational control algorithms.

EDISON is a web-based platform that provides easy and convenient use of simulation software on high-performance computers. One of the most important roles of a computational science platform, such as EDISON, is to post-process and represent the simulation results data so that the user can easily understand the data. We interviewed EDISON users and collected requirements for post-processing and represent of simulation results, which included i) flexible data representation, ii) supporting various data representation components, and iii) flexible and easy development of view template. In previous studies, it was difficult to develop or contribute data representation components, and the view templates were not able to be shared or recycled. This causes a problem that makes it difficult to create ecosystems for the representation tool development of numerous simulation software. EDISON-VIEW is a framework for post-processing and representing simulation results produced from the EDISON platform. This paper proposes various methods used in the design and development of the EDISON-VIEW framework to solve the above requirements and problems. We have verified its usefulness by applying it to simulation software in various fields such as material, computational fluid dynamics, computational structural dynamics, and computational chemistry.

Although the upland field area of Korea is high as 44.8%, the platform optimized for the upland field is insufficient. It is necessary to develop an optimized platform for the upland field because the upland field environment is an irregular environment with many slopes. In addition, due to the characteristic of agricultural operations, the traction power and torque of the platform have to be sufficient. Therefore, in this study, a simulation model that can predict the traction power and driving torque of a crawler-type platform for the upland field was developed and validated using the specifications of the crawler platform. The simulation model was developed using Amesim (19.1, Siemens, Germany). The development of the model was conducted using the specifications of the platform. A measurement system was developed to validate the simulation model. The traction power data of the simulation model was validated with the traction force and vehicle speed. The driving torque data of the simulation model was validated with the torque of the sprocket on the crawler system. As a result of the analysis, the error between measurement and simulation results occurred within 10%, and it was determined that the traction power and driving torque prediction of the crawler platform using this model was possible.

We have developed an information management tool for the EDISON (EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net) open platform. EDISON is, at present, a web-based simulation service for education and research in five computational areas, namely, nanophysics, fluid dynamics, chemistry, structural dynamics, and computer aided optimal design. The EDISON open platform consists of three tiers: EDISON application framework, EDISON middleware, and EDISON infra-resources. The platform provides web portals for education and research in areas such as computational fluid dynamics, computational chemistry, computational nanophysics, computational structural dynamics, and computer aided optimal design along with user service. The main purpose of this research is to test the behavior of the release version of the EDISON Open-Platform under normal operating conditions. This management tool has been implemented using the RESTful API designed in EDISON middleware. The intention is to check co-operation between the middleware and the infrastructure. Suggested tools include User management, Simulation and Job management, and Simulation software (i.e., solver) testing. Finally, it is considered meaningful to develop a management tool that is not supported in other web-based online simulation services.
The purpose of present study is to find design parameters and operating conditions of the HVAC system in a subway platform. The simulation was carried out for the flow, heat and mass transfer for heating, ventilating and air-conditioning(HVAC) environments in the subway platform. The steady-state. incompressible flow assumption and standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model are adopted. The location of HVAC air inlet above platform and the volume flow rate of curtain air released from inlet B are chosen as main parameters in this study. The results of present study are following: In the case of existence of train, the heat and contaminant released under the train have no effect on the average temperature and mass fraction of contaminant in the platform, but heat released on the train has influence on the average temperature in the platform. Train acts as an obstacle to exhaust the contaminant in the platform, but has good effect on the average temperature in the platform.
For the past few years, KISTI has been servicing an online simulation execution platform, called EDISON, allowing users to conduct simulations on various scientific applications supplied by diverse computational science and engineering disciplines. Typically, these simulations accompany large-scale computation and accordingly produce a huge volume of output data. One critical issue arising when conducting those simulations on an online platform stems from the fact that a number of users simultaneously submit to the platform their simulation requests (or jobs) with the same (or almost unchanging) input parameters or files, resulting in charging a significant burden on the platform. In other words, the same computing jobs lead to duplicate consumption computing and storage resources at an undesirably fast pace. To overcome excessive resource usage by such identical simulation requests, in this paper we introduce a novel framework, called IceSheet, to efficiently manage simulation data based on execution metadata, that is, provenance. The IceSheet framework captures and stores each provenance associated with a conducted simulation. The collected provenance records are utilized for not only inspecting duplicate simulation requests but also performing search on existing simulation results via an open-source search engine, ElasticSearch. In particular, this paper elaborates on the core components in the IceSheet framework to support the search and reuse on the stored simulation results. We implemented as prototype the proposed framework using the engine in conjunction with the online simulation execution platform. Our evaluation of the framework was performed on the real simulation execution-provenance records collected on the platform. Once the prototyped IceSheet framework fully functions with the platform, users can quickly search for past parameter values entered into desired simulation software and receive existing results on the same input parameter values on the software if any. Therefore, we expect that the proposed framework contributes to eliminating duplicate resource consumption and significantly reducing execution time on the same requests as previously-executed simulations.
The importance of software in the engineering field is increasing day by day, so the utilization and understanding of the simulation software in the engineering design stage has become the core competence of the engineer. This study presents a new software education method for multiple systems in the field of mechanical engineering using a workflow execution environment as a sub-module of a computational platform (called EDISON platform) that can incorporate in-house software tools developed by many simulation tool developers. It can execute not only individual software tools such as fluid flow, structure, optimal design, but also conduct connective executions of multiple software tools. Based on this simulation environment, a methodology was proposed that can be applied to convergence types of engineering educations. By properly using this methodology, it is expected that beginning engineers could encourage their specialties understanding the big pictures of the analysis processes.

EDISON ( EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net) is a web simulation service based on cloud compu-ting. EDISON provides that web service and provide analysis result to users through pre-built infrastructure and various calcu-lation nodes computational science engineering problems that are difficult or impossible to analysis as user's personal resources to users. As a result, a simulation execution environment is provided in a web portal environment so that EDISON can be ac-cessed regardless of a user's device or operating system to perform computational science engineering analysis simulation. The purpose of this research is to design and construct a workbench based real - time dynamic service to provide an integrat-ed user interface to the EDSION system, which is a computational science engineering simulation and analysis platform, which is currently provided to users. We also devised a workbench-based user simulation service environment configuration. That has a user interface that is similar to the computational science engineering simulation software environment used locally. It can configure a dynamic web environment such as various analyzers, preprocessors, and simulation software. In order to provide these web services, the service required by the user is configured in portlet units, and as a result, the simulation service using the workbench is constructed.
