  • This paper attempt analysis and computer simulation of dynamics of a set of dual multi-joint fingers with soft-deformable tips which are grasping. Firstly, a set of differential equation describing dynamics of the fingers and object together with geometric constraint of tight area-contacts is formulated by Euler-Lagrange's formalism. Secondly, problems of controlling both the internal force and the rotation angle of the grasped object under the constraints of area-contacts of tight area-contacts are discussed. The effect of geometric constraints of area-contacts on motion of the overall system is analyzed and a method of computer simulation for overall system of differential-algebraic equations is presented. Finally, simulation results are shown and the effects of geometric constraints of area-contact is discussed.

  • A modular programming approach for simulation/control of turbocharged diesel engines is investigated. The MATLAB/SIMULINK, which provides easy construction of various control modules and handy retrieval of objects, is adopted as a programming environment. The mathematical models for diesel engines are utilized from the literature. The object-oriented modules, which represent mechanical parts or theoretical algorithms for engines, are easily transferable to other application programs in the same environment. The simulation model is applied to a 4 strokes diesel engine. Details of the block diagrams of example modules are demonstrated. Finally, a PI controller and a sliding mode controller are applied to the simulator constructed for a typical turbocharged diesel engine.

  • In Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for buried object detection, it is important to identify a buried target because removal of an unwanted target requires as much time and effort as does a wanted target. For a simulation of the target identification, the FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) and PML (Perfectly Matched Layer) techniques are widely used. Simulation results vary depending on the type of the buried object and the position of the source. As a result, this paper illustrates the range (time) profile of the five types of facilities including PEC (Perfect Electric Conductor) rectangular box and pipes, and shows the comparison of the range profile of the buried facilities.

  • This paper uses the numerical simulation to investigate the interference effect of 3-D turbulent flow around two high rise buildings in proximity at the different relative heights, gaps, and wind velocities. The computer program used to carry out the simulation is based on the control volume method and the SIMPLEST algorithm. The ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model was used to simulate turbulence effects. Since the contracted flow between two adjacent buildings enhances the strength of vortex shedding from the object building, the pressure coefficient on each side wall of the object building is generally increased by the presence of apposed building. The effect is increased as the relative height or the gap between the two buildings decreases. The velocity on the vertical center line between two buildings is about 1.4 to 1.5 times the upstream wind velocity.

  • This research investigates a kill probability model for the performance evaluation of guided missile system, and also develops graphical user interface for the input and output of the model based on the visual object-oriented programming application. The major simulation events used in this research are missile guidance homing point, burst points, and kill mechanism(direct kill, blast kill and fragment kill). For the user interface, we also design and implement the visualization system that can show the graphic style of the kill probability attained by the model. The results of sample run are shown, but these could be improved to be better with visual simulation which can visulaize all the simulation process of the model.

  • Proposed in the paper is a V-FMS (Virtual Flexible Manufacturing System) model to be used as a prototyping tool for FMS design. The proposed V-FMS framework follows an object-oriented modeling (OOM) paradigm and is based on a set of user requirements for FMS prototyping. The V-FMS model consists of four types of object: virtual device, transfer handler, state manager and flow controller. A virtual device model, which corresponds to a static model in OOM, consists of two parts, shell and core, for reusability. A transfer handler corresponds to a functional model of OOM and it stores low level device commands required to perform job flow operations between giving and taking devices. The state manager and the flow controller constitute a dynamic model of OOM. The proposed V-FMS model has been implemented for a couple of linear type FMS-lines

  • This research investigates a kill probability model for the performance evaluation of guided missile system, and also develops the user interface implementation for the output of the model based on the visual object-oriented programming application. This paper describes in detail the methodology for the kill probability attained by a missile warhead detonating near an airborne target. The major simulation events used in this research are missile guidance homing point, burst points, and kill mechanism(direct kill, blast kill and fragment kill). For the user interface, we also design and implement the visualization system that can show the graphic style of the kill probability attained by the model. This research will bridge the gap between the sophisticated kill probability model and users who want to see the results interactively with visualization, which can benefit many of other military systems. Some examples are shown, but these will be improved to be better with visual simulation which can visualize all the simulation process of the model.

  • We developed an embedded Object-Oriented Micromagnetic Frame (OOMMF) script schemes for more flexible simulations for complex and dynamic mircomagnetic behaviors. The OOMMF can be called from any kind of softwares by system calls, and we can interact with OOMMF by updating the input files for next step from the output files of the previous step of OOMMF. In our scheme, we set initial inputs for OOMMF simulation first, and run OOMMF for ${\Delta}t$ by system calls from any kind of control programs. After executing the OOMMF during ${\Delta}t$, we can obtain magnetization configuration file, and we adjust input parameters, and call OOMMF again for another ${\Delta}t$ running. We showed one example by using scripting embedded OOMMF scheme, tunneling magneto-resistance dependent switching time. We showed the simulation of tunneling magneto-resistance dependent switching process with non-uniform current density using the proposed framework as an example.

  • Efficient communication of construction information has been critical for successful project performance. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has appeared as a tool for efficient communication. Through 3D CAD objects, it is possible to check interception and collisions of each object in advance. In addition, 4D simulation based on 3D objects integrated with time information makes it realize to go over scheduling and to perceive potential errors in scheduling. However, current scheduling simulation is still at a stage of animation due to manual integration of 3D objects and scheduling data. Accordingly, this study aims to develop an integrated model of 3D CAD objects that automatically creates scheduling information.
