For economic evaluation of cooling plant equipments, it is necessary to simplify energy Prediction method, which should includes efficiency corrected by part-load ratio. This study proposed simplified method with regression equations of time-average partial loads and refrigerator capacity. DOE-2 Program was used to carry out a parametric study of twelve design variables. Five input variables were considered to be significant and were used in the regression equations. To test accuracy of simplified method, calculated results were compared with DOE-2 simulated results. Test result showes a good agreement with the simulation result with an error of 5.9∼7.6%. It is expected that this method can be used as an easy prediction tool for comparing energy use of different cooling plants during the early design stage.
This paper describes a development of Collision/grounding Strength Assessment System (COSAS) using simplified method. This method is formulated in closed-form equation by taking into account crushing caused by bulbous bow collision and cutting caused by forward speed grounding. To verify the accuracy of the developed system, some examples for test models of double side/bottom structure in collision/grounding situation are considered. This system might be useful for analysis of structural damage of oil tankers in collision/grounding.
This paper examines an assessment method for terminating the post-closure maintenance of a landfill using a simplified landfill gas model. The case study site is the Sudokwon Landfill in Incheon city, which was closed in 2000. The deviations of the results obtained by the regular model and the simplified model were both slightly over 10% from the measured data. Also, the deviation of the simplified model from the regular model has been less than 5% since 2005. Thus, the simplified model could be applied to other landfills that have been closed for at least 5 years. Additionally, the results of the mass balance analysis using the simplified landfill gas model indicated that 39% of the organic carbon was discharged, leading to organic carbon and organic matter content of 7.2 and 17.6%, respectively, in the landfill by the end of 2018.
In this paper, a simplified planar model is developed for damage estimation of interlocked caisson systems. Firstly, a conceptual dynamic model of the interlocked caisson system is designed on the basis of the characteristics of existing harbor caisson structures. A mass-spring-dashpot model allowing only the sway motion is formulated. To represent the condition of interlocking mechanisms, each caisson unit is connected to adjacent ones via springs and dashpots. Secondly, the accuracy of the planar model's vibration analysis is numerically evaluated on a 3-D FE model of the interlocked caisson system. Finally, the simplified planar model is employed for damage estimation in the interlocked caisson system. For localizing damaged caissons, a damage detection method based on modal strain energy is formulated for the caisson system.
A steady-state analysis and a simple dynamic model as simplified methods are developed, and results of energy consumption loads are compared with results obtained using computer to evaluate the analytical solution. Before obtaining simplified model a mathematical model is formulated for the effect of wall mass on the thermal performance of four different houses having various wall construction. This analytical study was motivated by the experimental work of Burch et al. An analytical solution of one-dimensional, linear, partial differential equation for wall temperature profiles and room air temperatures is obtained using the Laplace transform method. Typical Meteorological Year data are processed to yield hourly average monthly values. This study is conducted using weather data from four different locations in the United States: Albuquerque, New mexico; Miami, Florida; Santa Maria, California; and Washington D.C. for both winter and summer conditions. The steady state analysis that does not include the effect of thermal mass can provide an accurate estimate of energy consumption in most cases except for houses #2 and #4 in mild weather areas. This result shows that there is an effect of mass on the thermal performance of heavily constructed house in mild weather conditions. The simple dynamic model is applicable for high cycling rates and accurate values of inside wall temperature and ambient air temperature.
This paper is about design concept and simplified analysis method against dropped object events. The ships and offshore structures are exposed to various types of dropped object accidents such as laydown area struck by drill collar and topside deck hit by food container during their lifetime. Mitigation can be accomplished by proper facility layout and designing structures to safely absorb energy from accidental loads. It shall be designed to avoid loss of life, environmental pollution and loss of assets. Impact loads can lead to structural global collapse of the main structure or punching of a local barrier type structure with potential to escalate directly or indirectly to a global collapse of the structure. This study provides the background information on the issue of dropped object of the shipyard and also focuses on structural assessment of the local individual component such as deck plate, stiffener and web/girder by using simplified analysis method. The results of the simplified analysis method were compared with numerical results using non-linear finite element simulation.
The purpose of this study is to compare the amount of heating, domestic hot water, and cooking fuel consumption with that of heating fuel consumption by the existing calculation method and to provide rational heating system design and energy conservation through presenting the simplified equation which can anticipate the amount of heating, domestic hot water, and cooking and the load mechanical equipments. The affecting factors to the amount of energy consumption are the case of Heating, Domestic Hot Water and Cooking in addition to the energy conservation intention.
Simplified approach has been adopted for the prediction of the thermal behavior of CANDU reactor core during power transients. Based on the assumption that the ratio of mass flow rate for each core channel does not vary during the transient, quasy-steady state analysis technique is applied with predicted core inlet boundary conditions(total mass flow rate and specific enthalpy). For restricted transient case, the presented method shows functionally reasonable estimation of core thermal behavior which could be implemented in the fast running reactor simulation program.
Recently, while rockfall occurs very frequently, a lot of researches on the rockfall protection fence Is in process. But the rockfall protection fence has been installed unrelated to slope characteristics, rockfall shape and rockfall height. Therefore, in this study we suggested the effective protection fence model considering about rockfall energy and energy absorbing capacity and we verified the model by field test. According to these results, it is more reasonable to evaluate rockfall energy based on the results of simulation program, which can be consider effects of energy decrease, than use the simplified method proposed by Japanese road association. And rockfall energy is affected by the size of supports and wire rope and the space of supports. As the results of comparing rockfall energy with energy absorbing capacity, type$\circled1$(the space of supports is changed to 3.0m)can be available for generally expected rockfall except the rock slope over 30m heights. But rockfall protection fence installed at the field, it should be partially reinforced after consideration of slope particularities and construction conditions.
