Shear wall is commonly used as a lateral force resisting system of concrete mid-rise and high-rise buildings, but it brings challenges in providing relatively large space throughout the building height. For this reason, the structure system where the upper structure with bearing, non-bearing and/or shear walls that sits on top of a transfer plate system supported by widely spaced columns at the lower stories is preferred in some regions, particularly in low to moderate seismic regions in Asia. A thick reinforced concrete (RC) plate has often been used as a transfer system, along with RC transfer girders; however, the RC plate becomes very thick for tall buildings. Applying the post-tensioning (PT) technique to RC plates can effectively reduce the thickness and reinforcement as an economical design method. Currently, a simplified model is used for numerical modeling of PT transfer plate, which does not consider the interaction of the plate and the upper structure. To observe the actual behavior of PT transfer plate under seismic loads, it is necessary to model whole parts of the structure and tendons to precisely include the interaction and the secondary effect of PT tendons in the results. This research evaluated the seismic behavior of shear wall-type residential buildings with PT transfer plates for the condition that PT tendons are included or excluded in the modeling. Three-dimensional finite element models were developed, which includes prestressing tendon elements, and response spectrum analyses were carried out to evaluate seismic forces. Two buildings with flat-shape and L-shape plans were considered, and design forces of shear walls and transfer columns for a system with and without PT tendons were compared. The results showed that, in some cases, excluding PT tendons from the model leads to an unrealistic estimation of the demands for shear walls sit on transfer plate and transfer columns due to excluding the secondary effect of PT tendons. Based on the results, generally, the secondary effect reduces shear force demand and axial-flexural demands of transfer columns but increases the shear force demand of shear walls. The results of this study suggested that, in addition to the effect of PT on the resistance of transfer plate, it is necessary to include PT tendons in the modeling to consider its effect on force demand.

In order to overcome the limitations of the individual renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaic (PV) and solar-thermal and effectively realize zero energy buildings, the photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) technology is being proposed. The current PVT module was simply combined with a PV panel and a solar-thermal collector. Therefore, it was difficult to commercialize because the PVT module is heavy and has no significant advantages compared to applying the individual technology. In this study, an attached PVT module is proposed for the commercialization and securing competitiveness in the renewable energy market. The attached PVT module enables on-site work with a simplified manufacturing process and can significantly reduce the supply price of the product. Moreover, it can be easily applied on already installed the PV panels. This study aims to commercialize the attached PVT module, the basic data was established as follows: (1) latest technology related to PVT module, (2) Global trends of the PVT module market. The possibility of commercialization of the attached PVT module was reviewed based on the results of the latest technology and market trends analysis. The supply price of the attached PVT module is lower than the existing products and it is considered that there is a high possibility of commercialization and introduction market with the advantage such as utilizing the existing PV industry and market. Moreover, the attached PVT module can be produced simultaneously the thermal and electrical energy, and it can be presented as an innovative alternative that can respond to the energy demand for residential sector.
The behavior of buried pipes is directly influenced by the nonlinearity and complex characteristics of the surrounding soil. However, the simplified beam-spring model, which ignores the nonlinearity and complex behavior of soil, is commonly used in practice. In response, several studies have employed continuum analysis methods to account for the nonlinear and complex behavior of the soil. This paper presents various numerical continuum analysis techniques and verifies their comparison with full-scale tests. The study found that reaction force results close to the full-scale test could be obtained by applying contact surface characteristics that take into account the interaction between the ground and the buried pipe. In the case of sharing pipe and soil node method and ignoring the interaction between pipe and soil, excessive reaction force was derived, and the failure shapes were different. In addition, this study applied the dynamic explicit analysis method, ALE method, and CEL method. It was confirmed that the displacement-reaction relationship and failure shape are similar to those of the static analysis.

The satirical content of the absurd play, centered on Lee Keun-sam's play, represents the family image of a modern capitalist society where only duty is emphasized while the characters are lost in love with the family. They show humans becoming subordinate to economic logic as traditional relationships and family relationships change into material ones due to the rapid development of the economy. The narrator expresses the roles of the performer and the narrator together. It also presents the plot as a characteristic element of epic and absurd dramas, and directs actors as directors. It also foretells the events that will take place in the future, presents the inner consciousness of the characters in the play, and reduces and expands events and times. In terms of conflict, in order to fulfill the financial responsibility of their children, the professor translates them like a machine and the wife distributes the money they earn as they demand. The middle-aged professor and his wife are not willing to make a difference in the real world, so specific conflicts are not revealed. Therefore, no concrete conflict appears within this work. The plot of consisted of 22 epicentre compartments, consisting of a time frame from evening to the next morning. And no special events happen and show only one family's daily life. In addition, materials that show simple repetition of daily life such as newspapers, rice, birthdays, etc. are effectively showing the character of absurdity through repeated structure. The linguistic features of the absurd play focus on expressing anxiety, despair, fantasy and the sense of loss that the object's purpose has disappeared. The stage system avoids detailed portrayals of naturalist plays and creates a thoroughly simplified image that the theme of the play demands, which shows that the stage unit is also an important element that characterizes the absurdity of reflexes.
Underground Geospatial Information Map Management System(UGIMMS) integrates various underground facilities in the underground space into 3D mesh data, and supports to check the 3D image and location of the underground facilities in the mobile app. However, there is a problem that it takes a long time to run in the app because various underground facilities can exist in some areas executed by the app and can be seen layer by layer. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based K-means vertex clustering algorithm as a method to reduce the execution time in the app by reducing the size of the data by reducing the number of vertices in the 3D mesh data within the range that does not cause a problem in visibility. First, our proposed method obtains refined vertex feature information through a deep learning encoder-decoder based model. And second, the method was simplified by grouping similar vertices through K-means vertex clustering using feature information. As a result of the experiment, when the vertices of various underground facilities were reduced by 30% with the proposed method, the 3D image model was slightly deformed, but there was no missing part, so there was no problem in checking it in the app.
To establish an efficient light control method using three covering materials on tunnel shaped rice seed-bed at greening stage after seedling emergence, four rice cultivars, Nampungbyeo, Taebaegbyeo, Seonambyeo, and Seomjinbyeo were sown on 15 April and 10 May in 1983 and 1984 respectively. After seedling emergence by a simplified emerging methods the seedling boxes were moved onto tunnel shaped seed-bed which was covered with combined matrials of PE film, silverpoly sheet, and spunbonded polyester fabric. For machine transplanting of rice seedlings in cases of early season and optimum season seeding in central part of Korea, PE film tunnel with silverpoly mulched, and PE film tunnel methods with spunbonded polyester fabric mulched reduced injuries of non-parasitic seedling damping-off and a albinism as affected by it, protected rice seedlings from injuries by extremely low temperature in the night, and reduced less differences in diurnal temperature than those in the other covering methods. At late season seeding for double cropping system of paddy field in southern part of Korea, a single silver-poly or a single spunbonded polyester fabric-covered tunnel method showed good green seedlings, and prevent-ed extreme rising of diurnal temperature by light interception in the tunnel.
A stochastic approach using continuous time Markov process is presented to model the one-dimensional nuclide transport in fractured rock media as a further extension for previous works[1-3]. Nuclide transport of decay chain of arbitrary length in the single planar fractured rock media in the vicinity of the radioactive waste repository is modeled using a continuous time Markov process. While most of analytical solutions for nuclide transport of decay chain deal with the limited length of decay chain, do not consider the case of having rock matrix diffusion, and have very complicated solution form, the present model offers rather a simplified solution in the form of expectance and its variance resulted from a stochastic modeling. As another deterministic way, even numerical models of decay chain transport, in most cases, show very complicated procedure to get the solution and large discrepancy for the exact solution as opposed to the stochastic model developed in this study. To demonstrate the use of the present model and to verify the model by comparing with the deterministic model, a specific illustration was made for the transport of a chain of three member in single fractured rock medium with constant groundwater flow rate in the fracture, which ignores the rock matrix diffusion and shows good capability to model the fractured media around the repository.

In this study, 28 earthquake records with magnitudes from 5.3 to 7.9 are selected for dynamic analysis in order to assess applicability of the earthquakes for domestic seismic design. The assessment is performed using the seismic spectrum analysis of energy and acceleration. Based on results of the analysis, four acceleration time histories, which satisfy the Korean design standard response spectrum, are proposed. From the dynamic analysis using earthquake magnitudes from 6.4 to 7.9, it is found that horizontal displacements corresponding to earthquake magnitudes greater than 7 are two times larger than those with magnitude 6.5. Therefore, it can be stated that use of strong earthquakes, such as Miyagiken-ken-oki earthquake (Ofunato, $M_{JMA}=7.4$) and Tokachi-oki earthquake (Hachinohe, $M_{JMA}=7.9$), for the seismic design in Korea is not applicable, and may prove to be excessively conservative due to overestimated seismic force. From the dynamic analyses using the proposed acceleration time histories, effects of caisson quay wall dimension and the subsoil condition are investigated as well. The simplified design charts to evaluate horizontal displacements of caisson quay wall are also proposed based on earthquake magnitude 6.5 that is appropriate in Korea.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial characteristics of the unit of garden and to classify and symbolize it, to provide the basis for analyzing the works based on the characteristics of the space and to provide the data that can become the logical foundation for garden design. The research method first analyzed the behavioral scene analysis and the grounded theory methodology as the theory about the space type. It controls the subjectivity of the researcher and derives the characteristics of the space for the garden image based on the experiential knowledge of the expert, It is a qualitative analysis method that aims to increase credibility. The actual case target was the author garden which was exhibited at the 2017 Seoul Garden Expo. Through this process, we have simplified the characteristics of the space and the positives and negatives accordingly. We have grasped the relationship between spatial space, sculptural space, architectural space, and environmental space.. Research on qualitative topics such as the characteristics of space can not completely exclude the subjectivity of the researcher in terms of its characteristics, but such research can provide a rationale for interpreting and evaluating the gardens that depend on the individual's taste.. It can also contribute to the development of the field by providing reference materials for garden designs that rely on designer intuition, or by providing a logical basis for design.
This narrative study aims to describe the experience of P.E. assessment that was conducted by P.E. teachers of Korea Science Academy of KAIST, and interpret the educational significance that was found in the process. The study participants were two P.E. teachers who were selected by decisive case sampling method. Data were collected mainly through official interviews with study participants, and through researcher's field notes, informal interviews, various minutes, students' evaluation of teaching, and emails between the researcher and study participants. Data were analyzed through inductive categorization, and to gain veracity of the study, there were integration of diverse materials, advice and suggestions of fellow researchers, continuous confirmation of study texts by study participants. Study participants, while conducting P.E. assessment in Korea Science Academy of KAIST, experienced effectiveness of evaluation such as qualitative development of P,E. classes in accordance with the simplified assessment, freedom from the chores of handling assessment results, students' improved perceptions of P.E. class, realization of safe classes without excessive competition, and the possibility of giving alternative evaluations to pass/fail system but at the same time experienced limitations such as concerns over gaining validity and reliability of P.E. evaluation, the students' attitude who take lightly of P.E. class, and the reality that teachers cannot fail students. The evaluation experiences of the two P.E teachers were educationally interpreted as encounter with good P.E. classes, invitation to P.E. class criticism, and the start of school P.E. culture that is led by students.
