From February through March 2002, sixteen rockfishes representing three species were collected from Oregon Coast Aquarium and Newport fish market and examined far nematodes. During this study, a total of 157 Anisakis type larvae were recovered from Sebastes spp. and parasitized for an average infection prevalence of 50.0%. The yellowtail rockfish, S. flavidus, darkblotched rockfish, S. crameri, and canary rockfish, S. pinniger examined were infected with 110 Anisakis simplex larva, 30 Contracaecum spp. larva and 17 Pseudoterranova decipiens larva. Of the rockfishes examined, 75.0% carried Sebastes crameri, and 12.5% S. flavidus and S. crameri, respectively. The sites of infection far Anisakis type larvae were the intestine, omentum, and stomach walls. A. simplex larvae infected 60.0% on S. crameri and 33.3% on S.flavidus and S. pinniger respectively. The prevalence of Contracaecum sp. larvae and Pseudoterranova decipiens larvae on S. pinniger was 33.3%. The intensities of A. simplex larvae ranged from 1 to 87 in S. flavidus, S. crameri, and S. pinniger. The intensity of Contracaecum spp. larvae and P. decipiens larvae ranged from 0 to 30 in S. pinniger.
With the recent machine learning paradigm of using nonparametric Bayesian statistics and statistical inference based on random sampling, the Dirichlet distribution finds many uses in a variety of graphical models. It is a multivariate generalization of the gamma distribution and is defined on a continuous (K-1)-simplex. This paper presents a sampling method for a Dirichlet distribution for the problem of dividing an integer X into a sequence of K integers which sum to X. The target samples in our problem are all positive integer vectors when multiplied by a given X. They must be sampled from the correspondingly gridded simplex. In this paper we develop a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) proposal distribution for the neighborhood grid points on the simplex and then present the complete algorithm based on the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. The proposed algorithm can be used for the Markov model, HMM, and Semi-Markov model for accurate state-duration modeling. It can also be used for the Gamma-Dirichlet HMM to model q the global-local duration distributions.

Anisakidosis is caused by anisakid nematodes (family Anisakidae) larvae which can cause not only direct tissue damage but also a severe allergic response related to excretory-secretion products. Lots of different species of anisakid larvae, including Anisakis simplex, Contracaecum, Goezia, Pseudoterranova, and Hysterothylacium, cause the anisakidosis. But it is difficult to diagnosis the species of larvae since the morphologies of larval anisakid nematodes are almost indistinguishable. In order to diagnosis the differential infections of larval anisakid nematodes, polymerase chain reaction - restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) of 18S rDNA - was conducted. Three major species of anisakid larvae including A. simplex, C.ontracaecum spp, and Goezia spp. were collected from mackerel (Scomber japonicus), mullet (Mugil cephalus), founder (Paralichthys olivaceus), eel (Astroconger myriaster) and red sea bream (Pagrus major). PCR amplified 18S rDNA from each species of anisakid larvae was digested with eight restriction enzymes including Taq I, Hinf I, Hha I, Alu I, Dde I, Hae III, Sau96 I, and Sau3A I. The original sizes of PCR amplified 18S rDNA were 2.0Kb in both anisakid larvaes and Goezia. Restrction enzymes including Hinf 1, Alu 1, Hha I, Dde 1 and Hae III cut differently and distinguished the A. simplex and Contracaecum type C'. However, Contracaecum type A showed two different restriction enzyme cutting patterns by Taq 1, Hinf I, Alu 1, and Dde 1. One of the patterns was the same as those of A. simplex, Contracaecum type C' and Goezia and the other was unique. These results suggest that PCR-RFLP pattern by Hinf 1, Alu 1, Hae I, Dde 1 and Hae III can be applied to differential diagnosis of human infection with A. simplex and Contracaecum type C'. Contracaecum type A needs further study of classification by morphological characteristics and genetic analysis.

Numerous anisakids were parasitic near the digestive tract of the black rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli and some anisakids observed on the liver of the host. Anisakids in the host were identified three species (Hysterothylacium sp., Anisakis simplex, A. pegreffii) and Hysterothylacium sp. was the high occurrence of anisakid worms in the host. Hysterothylacium sp. was shorter and thinner than A. simplex. Both of anisakids observed lip, mouth, nerve ring, excretory pore and excretory duct in the anterior portion. In the mid portion, anisakids had esophagus, ventriculus and intestine and especially, Hysterothylacium sp. had intestinal ceacum and ventricular appendage. There was conical nodulose apex at the end of the posterior portion in Hysterothylacium sp. and spine in A. simplex. SEM examination revealed that there was three lip near the mouth of Hysterothylacium sp. Dorsal lip was approximately 65 ${\mu}m$ and paried lateroventral lip were approximately 60 ${\mu}m$ in the width. All lips were found double papilla (approximately 8 ${\mu}m$ in the width). The body width of the Hysterothylacium sp. and A. simplex was approximately 480 ${\mu}m$ and 900 ${\mu}m$ respectively. The hight of the lateral alae was about 7 ${\mu}m$ and width of papilla on the cornical nodulose apex was about 3.3 ${\mu}m$ in Hysterothylacium sp. The hight of spine was approximately 20 ${\mu}m$ in A. simplex. There was mainly Hysterothylacium sp. in the intestinal lumen of the host. The nematod worms were parasitic near the mucosal fold and in the submucosal. In the mucosal epidermal layer, it was increased mucous cells by the infection of the parasites.
Culture-dependent RFLP and culture-independent DGGE were employed to investigate the bacterial community associated with the marine sponge Asteropus simplex collected from Jeju Island. A total of 120 bacterial strains associated with the sponge were cultivated using modified Zobell and MA media. PCR amplicons of the 16S rDNA from the bacterial strains were digested with the restriction enzymes HaeIII and MspI, and then assigned into different groups according to their restriction patterns. The 16S rDNA sequences derived from RFLP patterns showed more than 94% similarities compared with known bacterial species, and the isolates belonged to five phyla, Alphaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes, of which Gammaproteobacteria was dominant. DGGE fingerprinting of 16S rDNAs amplified from the sponge-derived total gDNA showed 12 DGGE bands, and their sequences showed more than 90% similarities compared with available sequences. The sequences derived from DGGE bands revealed high similarity with the uncultured bacterial clones. DGGE revealed that bacterial community consisted of seven phyla, including Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Deltaproteobacteria, Actinobacteira, Chloroflexi, and Nitrospira. Alphaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, and Actinobacteria were commonly found in bacteria associated with A. simplex by both RFLP and DGGE methods, however, overall bacterial community in the sponge differed depending on the analysis methods. Sponge showed more various bacterial community structures in culture-independent method than in culture-dependent method.

In order to facilitate the molecular characterization of the Herpes simplex Virus types 1 and types 2 genome DNAs, a gene library of cloned restriction frtgments have been produced. The Vero cells were infected with HSV-1 and HSV-2. 48 hours after infection, the infected cells Ivere Iysed, and multinucleated giant cells were observed approximately at seventy-two hours postinfection. The multiplication of HSV-1 and HSV-2 was observed in Vero cells using electromicroscopy. The nucleocapsids in nuclei were obseryed, and the assembled virions were budded out through the vacuole, and the virions were released from the cells. HSV-1 and HSV-2 was analyzed by digestion of their genome DANs with restriction ensymes. HSV-1 and HSV-2 genome DNAs were digested with BarnHI, Bgfl respectively. The BarnHI rlestriction fragments of HSV-1 and HSV-2 genome DNAs were twenty-seven fragments and thair molecular sizes were ranging $0.70{\sim}15.08$, $4.4{\sim}31.0$ tilobases. The BglII restriction fragments of HSV-1 and HSV-2 genome DNAs were sixteen, eighteen fragments and thair molecular sizes were ranging $4.8{\sim}30.0$, $1.2{\sim}25.0$ kilobases. And then BglII restriction frgments were cloned in Escherichia coli(E.coil) using the plasmid vector pBacPAK9.

Linear equations of motion for submersibles are one of the rest important design parameters, which are used as a governing equation for the shape design and the controller design. But, the estimated maneuvering coefficients in equations of motion by using empirical formulae, theoretical calculations or model tests might have some errors. Therefore the maneuvering coefficients should be verified from sea trial test. In this study, parallel extended Kalman filter method, Nelder & Mead Simplex method and genetic algorithm were applied to the parameter identification of roll maneuvering coefficients based on sea trial data. As a result, it was verified that Nelder & Mead Simplex method gave the most satisfactory results for the mathmatical models and the sea trial data used in this study.
In this paper, a novel vision-based nighttime vehicle detection approach is presented, combining state machines and downhill simplex optimization. In the proposed approach, vehicle detection is modeled as a sequential state transition problem; that is, vehicle arrival, moving, and departure at a chosen detection area. More specifically, the number of bright pixels and their differences, in a chosen area of interest, are calculated and fed into the proposed state machine to detect vehicles. After a vehicle is detected, the location of the headlights is determined using the downhill simplex method. In the proposed optimization process, various headlights were evaluated for possible headlight positions on the detected vehicles; allowing for an optimal headlight position to be located. Simulation results were provided to show the robustness of the proposed approach for nighttime vehicle and headlight detection.
Different optimization algorithms have been proposed to solve real and reactive power optimization problems. Most of all, linear programming techniques that employed a simplex method have been extensively used. But, the growth in the size of power systems demands faster and more reliable optimization techniques. An Interior Point(IP) mehod is based on an interior point approach to aim the solution trajectory toward the optimal point and is converged to the solution faster than the simplex method. This paper deals with the use of Successive Linear Programming(SLP) for the solution of the Security Constrained Economic Dispatch(SCED) problem. This problem is solved using the IP method. A comparison with simplex method shows that the interior point technique is reliable and faster than the simplex algorithm.
