Maximum Likelihood (ML)-Based Quantizer Design for Distributed Systems

  • We consider the problem of designing independently operating local quantizers at nodes in distributed estimation systems, where many spatially distributed sensor nodes measure a parameter of interest, quantize these measurements, and send the quantized data to a fusion node, which conducts the parameter estimation. Motivated by the discussion that the estimation accuracy can be improved by using the quantized data with a high probability of occurrence, we propose an iterative algorithm with a simple design rule that produces quantizers by searching boundary values with an increased likelihood. We prove that this design rule generates a considerably reduced interval for finding the next boundary values, yielding a low design complexity. We demonstrate through extensive simulations that the proposed algorithm achieves a significant performance gain with respect to traditional quantizer designs. A comparison with the recently published novel algorithms further illustrates the benefit of the proposed technique in terms of performance and design complexity.

  • 공진형 인버터의 직류 링크단의 전압 상승을 직류 공급 전압 이내로 제한하고, 공진형 인덕터의 전류 내량을 줄이기 위한 간단한 전압 억제형 공진형 인버터를 제안하였다. 이 전압 인버터를 영구 자석형 동기 전동기(PMSM)에 적용하여 이산 펄프 제어 방법중의 하나인 예측형 전류 제어 방법에 의해 실험과 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안된 인버터의 동작을 보이고, 그 결과를 CRDM(Current Regulated Delta Modulation)방법에 의한 결과와 비교하였다.

  • 무선인식(RFID) 시스템은 기존의 바코드 시스템을 대체할 뿐만 아니라 제조, 물류, 서비스 산업 등을 변화시킬 차세대 핵심 기술 중의 하나이다. RFID 시스템은 무선으로 초당 수 백개까지의 태그 정보를 인식할 수 있다. 태그 인식은 리더(reader)가 각 라운드 별로 정한 프레임 동안 태그들이 자신의 ID를 임의 전송함으로써 이루어진다. 태그 인식 시간을 감소시키려면 태그 수를 감안한 적절한 크기의 프레임을 할당해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 RFID 시스템에서 질의 시간을 최소화 할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다. 먼저 태그 개수를 단순하면서도 효율적으로 추정하는 방법을 제안하고, 이를 이용하여 각 라운드 별로 최적 프레임 길이를 구하여 전체 질의 시간을 최소화하는 방법을 개발하였다. 기존에 제안된 방법과 성능 비교를 수행하여 본 논문에서 제안하는 태그 수 추정 방법이 기존 방법보다 더 정확하고 효율적임을 관찰하였고 최적 프레임 길이 결정 문제에 또한 간단한 Greedy방법이 복잡한 최적 프레임 계산기법과 비슷한 성능을 가진다는 것을 확인하였다.

모바일 환경에서 모션 추정을 위한 빠르고 정확한 알고리즘 (Fast and Accurate Algorithm for Motion Estimation in Mobile Environments)

  • 본 논문에서는 모바일 환경에서 모션을 추정하기 위하여 특징점을 코너로 선택하고, 기존 코너 검출 알고리즘인 Rosten 알고리즘 보다 모션 추정의 정확성을 높이는 방법을 제안한다. Rosten 알고리즘은 간단한 덧셈과 뺄셈만으로 코너를 검출함에 따라 처리 속도가 빠른 장점이 있지만, 코너를 매칭하면서 모션추정의 성능이 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 우리는 Normalized Cross Correlation(NCC) 계수를 사용하여 코너를 매칭하고, 두 단계에 걸쳐 부정확한 매칭에 의한 외톨이를 제거한다. 기존의 Rosten 알고리즘과 제안하는 알고리즘을 실제 영상에서 실험을 통하여 성능을 비교하고, 실제 모바일 장치의 응용 프로그램에 적용한다. 제안한 알고리즘이 Rosten 알고리즘 보다 더 정확한 모션을 추정해 냄을 실험 결과 확인하였고, 실제 모바일 환경에서도 실시간으로 동작함을 확인하였다.

3차원 직선을 이용한 카메라 모션 추정 (Motion Estimation Using 3-D Straight Lines)

  • This paper proposes a method for motion estimation of consecutive cameras using 3-D straight lines. The motion estimation algorithm uses two non-parallel 3-D line correspondences to quickly establish an initial guess for the relative pose of adjacent frames, which requires less correspondences than that of current approaches requiring three correspondences when using 3-D points or 3-D planes. The estimated motion is further refined by a nonlinear optimization technique with inlier correspondences for higher accuracy. Since there is no dominant line representation in 3-D space, we simulate two line representations, which can be thought as mainly adopted methods in the field, and verify one as the best choice from the simulation results. We also propose a simple but effective 3-D line fitting algorithm considering the fact that the variance arises in the projective directions thus can be reduced to 2-D fitting problem. We provide experimental results of the proposed motion estimation system comparing with state-of-the-art algorithms using an open benchmark dataset.

Speed and Flux Estimation for an Induction Motor Using a Parameter Estimation Technique

  • In this paper, an estimator scheme for the rotor speed and flux of an induction motor is proposed on the basis of a fourth-order electrical model. It is assumed that only the stator currents and voltages are measurable, and that the stator currents are bounded. There are a number of common terms in the motor dynamics, and this is utilized to find a simple error model involving some auxiliary variables. Using this error model, the state estimation problem is converted into a parameter estimation problem assuming that the rotor speed is constant. Some stability properties are given on the basis of Lyapunov analysis. In addition, the rotor resistance, which varies with the motor temperature, can also be estimated within the same framework. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through computer simulations and experiments.

2.5D human pose estimation for shadow puppet animation

  • Digital shadow puppet has traditionally relied on expensive motion capture equipments and complex design. In this paper, a low-cost driven technique is presented, that captures human pose estimation data with simple camera from real scenarios, and use them to drive virtual Chinese shadow play in a 2.5D scene. We propose a special method for extracting human pose data for driving virtual Chinese shadow play, which is called 2.5D human pose estimation. Firstly, we use the 3D human pose estimation method to obtain the initial data. In the process of the following transformation, we treat the depth feature as an implicit feature, and map body joints to the range of constraints. We call the obtain pose data as 2.5D pose data. However, the 2.5D pose data can not better control the shadow puppet directly, due to the difference in motion pattern and composition structure between real pose and shadow puppet. To this end, the 2.5D pose data transformation is carried out in the implicit pose mapping space based on self-network and the final 2.5D pose expression data is produced for animating shadow puppets. Experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of our new method.

항공기 지상 진동 시험 및 동특성 모델의 개선 (The Ground Vibration Test on an Aircraft and FE Model Update)

  • This paper discusses the techniques, procedures and the results of the ground vibration test(GVT) performed on the development aircraft and the simple procedure of FE model updating technique from the GVT results. The GVT was carried out using random excitation technique with MIMO(Multi-Input-Multi-Output) data acquistion method, and taking full advantage of poly-reference global parameter estimation technique to identify the vibration modes. In dynamic FE modeling, the aircraft was represented by beam elements and all dynamic analysis was performed using MSC/NASTRAN for this model. In updating procedure, the stiffness of the beam model was adjusted iteratively so as to get the natural frequencies and mode shapes close to the GVT results.

  • An improved predictive control technique using adaptive load estimation is proposed. The conventional predictive control technique has not concerned load variations and system parameters. Thus control performances are undesirable such as large current ripples and offset. In this paper the proposed controller employing a simple adaptive algorithm to estimate load is expected to be useful to overcome the problems of conventinal predictive controller.

  • In this paper, we present a novel motion-compensated interpolation technique for non-moving caption region to prevent the block artifacts due to the failure of conventional block-based motion estimation algorithm on the block is consist of non-moving caption and moving object. Experimental results indicate good performance of the proposed scheme with significantly reduced block artifacts on image sequence that include non-moving caption. Also the proposed method is simple and adequate for hardware implementation.
