  • We report on a simple method of fabricating multimode transflective liquid crystal displays (LCDs) using the photoalignment technique. Using a self-masking process of ultraviolet light by the reflector as a photomask as well as a reflective mirror, the periodic multimode is obtained with no additional fabrication processes. Moreover, variations of the cell gap are not required for such trasflective LCDs

  • Soon after Lee and O'Sullivan proposed a new interpolation algorithm for algebraic soft-decision decoding of Reed-Solomon codes, there have been some attempts to apply a coordinate transformation technique to the new algorithm, with a remarkable complexity reducing effect. In this paper, a conceptually simple way of applying the transformation technique to the interpolation algorithm is proposed.

  • A new pulse multiplication technique based on 6-pulse thyristor converters is proposed in this paper. With the proposed technique 12-pulse 18-pulse and 24-pulse operations have been obtained both on the input current and on the output voltage. A control strategy over the whole range of phase angle is provided along with sophisticated input current and output voltage analysis. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype verify the proposed theory.

  • A simple force-finding process based on an optimization technique is proposed for tensegrity structures. For this purpose, the inverse problem of form-finding process is formulated. Therefore, the position vector of nodes and element connectivity information are provided as priori. Several benchmark tests are carried out to demonstrate the performance of the present force-finding process. In particular, the force density distributions of simplex tensegrity are thoroughly investigated with the important parameters such as the radius, height and twisting angle of simplex tensegrity. Finally, the force density distribution of arch tensegrity is produced by using the present force-finding process for a future reference solution.

  • We consider the discrete-time GI/G/1/K queue under the early arrival system. Using a modified supplementary variable technique(SVT), we obtain the distribution of the steady-state queue length. Unlike the conventional SVT, the modified SVT yields transform-free results in such a form that a simple two-moment approximation scheme can be easily established.

  • We develop an efficient technique of controlling chaos using M-step ahead prediction with the OGY method. It has smaller transient time than the OGY method, and prevents burst phenomena that occur in noisy environment. This technique is very simple and needs small memory compared with targeting algorithms. Numerical examples show that the proposed algorithm has good performance, especially in noisy environment.

  • This paper describes a shape matching algorithm for occluded or distorted two-dimensional objects. In our approach, the shape matchin is viewed as a segment matching problem. A shape matching algorithm, based on both the stochastic labeling technique and the hypothesis generate-test paradigm, is proposed, and a simple technique which performs the stochastic labeling process in accordance with the definition of consisten labeling assignment without requiring an iterative updating process of probability valiues is also proposed. Several simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is very effective when occlusion, scaling or change of orientation has occurred in the object.

  • We report that broadcast messages in Mobile WiMAX networks should be synchronized throughout all the base stations to gain the benefit of beamforming technique. A simple synchronization implementation of broadcast messages in Mobile WiMAX networks is presented. Using this technique, the interference between broadcast messages and beamformed messages can be reduced.

  • The single sensor technique reconstructing phase currents from the dc-link current without phase current sensors in proposed. When the duration of active vector is too short for the snubber current to reduce, the dc-link current including the snubber current gives large detection error. The solution is presented by analyzing the snubber current and modifying the switching sequences. This scheme is simple, requires only one sampling a period and has good results for detecting the phase currents.

  • In this paper, we propose Class Diagram With Constraints (CDWC) as an object oriented modeling technique which makes validation possible in software development. CDWC is a simple and basic model for the object oriented analysis, and has a reasonable strictness for software developers. CDWC consists of class diagrams and constraints (invariant and pre/post conditions), using UML and a subset of OCL.. We introduce a method of validation of CDWC using the verification technique of algebraic formal specification language CafeOBJ.
