  • It an inventory control system, the demand over time are often assumed to be independently identically distributed (i. i. d.). However, the demands may well be correlated over time in many situations. The estimation of reorder points is not simple for correlated demands with variable lead time. In this paper, a general class of autoregressive and moving average processes is considered for modeling the demands of an inventory item. The first four moments of the lead-time demand (L) are derived and used to approximate the distribution of L. The reorder points at given service level are then estimated by the three approximation methods : normal approximation, Charlier series and Pearson system. Numerical investigation shows that the Pearson system and the Charlier series performs extremely well for various situations whereas the normal approximation show consistent underestimation and sensitive to the distribution of lead time. The same conclusion can be reached when the parameters are estimated from the sample based on the simulation study.

  • The theoretical foundations of GA are the Schema Theorem and the Building Block Hypothesis. In the Meaning of these foundational concepts, simple genetic algorithm(SGA) allocate more trials to the schemata whose average fitness remains above average. Although SGA does well in many applications as an optimization method, still it does not guarantee the convergence of a global optimum. Therefore as an alternative scheme, there is a growing interest in a co-evolutionary system, where two populations constantly interact and co-evolve in contrast with traditional single population evolutionary algorithms. In this paper, we propose a new design method of an optimal fuzzy logic controller using co-evolutionary concept. In general, it is very difficult to find optimal fuzzy rules by experience when the input and/or output variables are going to increase. So we propose a co-evolutionary method finding optimal fuzzy rules. Our algorithm is that after constructing two population groups m de up of rule vase and its schema, by co-evolving these two populations, we find optimal fuzzy logic controller. By applying the proposed method to a path planning problem of autonomous mobile robots when moving objects exist, we show the validity of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we proposed the method detecting multiple pedestrians using motion information and SVM(Support Vector Machine) from a moving camera image. First, we detect moving pedestrians from both the difference image and the projection histogram which is compensated for the camera ego-motion using corresponding feature sets. The difference image is simple method but it is not detected motionless pedestrians. Thus, to fix up this problem, we detect motionless pedestrians using SVM The SVM works well particularly in binary classification problem such as pedestrian detection. However, it is not detected in case that the pedestrians are adjacent or they move arms and legs excessively in the image. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed the method detecting motionless and adjacent pedestrians as well as people who take excessive action in the image using motion information and SVM The experimental results on our various test video sequences demonstrated the high efficiency of our approach as it had shown an average detection ratio of 94% and False Positive of 2.8%.

  • The traditional fixed areal DAD(rainfall Depth-Area-Duration) method, generally quoted in most hydrology texts, is a simple and useful procedure when watersheds are small and storm movement is not an important factor of consideration. However, it is difficult to obtain satisfactory results for the more apparent forms of storm movement such as typhoons, or for large watershed. In the latter case, especially the margin of error for the areal average rainfall increases proportionally to the area of study, causing biased result. To overcome these limitations, this study focuses on the storm-centered DAD analysis(moving area DAD method) developed and programmed by the isohyetal concept to obtain accurate and objective results. By comparing and analyzing the observed rainfall rates through both method, it was proved that the currently Proposed method more accurately reflected the average rainfall rate. In short, through this new method, approximately 130 storm events nationwide from 1969 to 1999 was analyzed and compared with the fixed areal method results.

  • As VoIP systems move to wireless environments with much higher average packet loss rates than wired networks, it becomes less possible for the network to assure a reasonable QoS. So, real-time quality monitoring for mobile VoIP applications is an important issue to be explored. In this paper, we explore perceptual quality dependency on two parameters: the burst loss rate and average burst length. Also, we propose a simple 'moving average' approach with $\alpha$ aiming to measure those parameters on real-time basis. In order to find how accurately the two parameters measured estimate the real perceptual quality, we compare actual measured PESQ scores with estimated value by matching the measured quality metric to the trained MOS table. Finally, we propose the quality-based accounting system, which can set obvious continuities between quality and billing.

  • This paper proposes a new haptic device using a parallel mechanism with gimbal type actuators. This device has three legs actuated by 2-DOF gimbal mechanisms, which make the device simple and light by fixing all the actuators to the base. Three extra sensors are placed at passive joints to obtain a unique solution of the forward kinematics problem. The proposed haptic device is developed for an operator to use it on a desktop in due consideration of the size of an average Korean. The proposed haptic device has a small workspace for on operator to use it on a desktop and more sensitivity than a serial type haptic device. Therefore, the motors of the proposed haptic device are fixed at the base plate so that the proposed haptic device has a better dynamic bandwidth due to a low moving inertia. With this conceptual design, optimization of the design parameters is carried out. The objective function is defined by the fuzzy minimum of the global design indices, global force/moment isotropy index, global force/moment payload index, and workspace. Each global index is calculated by a SVD (singular value decomposition) of the force and moment parts of the jacobian matrix. Division of the jacobian matrix assures a consistency of the units in the matrix. Due to the nonlinearity of this objective function, Genetic algorithms are adopted for a global optimization.

  • In this paper efficient algorithms for content-based video retrieval using motion information are proposed, including temporal scale-invariant retrieval and temporal scale-absolute retrieval. In temporal scale-invariant video retrieval, the distance transformation is performed on each trail image in database. Then, from a given que교 trail the pixel values along the query trail are added in each distance image to compute the average distance between the trails of query image and database image, since the intensity of each pixel in distance image represents the distance from that pixel to the nearest edge pixel. For temporal scale-absolute retrieval, a new coding scheme referred to as Motion Retrieval Code is proposed. This code is designed to represent object motions in the human visual sense so that the retrieval performance can be improved. The proposed coding scheme can also achieve a fast matching, since the similarity between two motion vectors can be computed by simple bit operations. The efficiencies of the proposed methods are shown by experimental results.

  • Absolute position sensors are widely used in machine tools and precision measuring instruments because measurement errors are not accumulated, and position measurements can be performed without initialization. The laser speckle-based absolute position sensor, in particular, has advantages in terms of simple system configuration and high measurement accuracy. Unlike traditional absolute position sensors, it does not require an expensive physical length scale; instead, it uses a laser speckle image database to measure a moving surface position. However, there is a problem that a huge database is required to store information in all positions on the surface. Conversely, reducing the size of the database also decreases the accuracy of position measurements. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new method to measure the surface position with high precision while reducing the size of the database. We use image stitching and approximation methods to reduce database size and speed up measurements. The absolute position error of the proposed method was about 0.27 ± 0.18 ㎛, and the average measurement time was 25 ms.

  • In recent years, the number of systems for the analysis of large volumes of data is increasing. Hadoop, a representative big data system, stores and processes the large data in the distributed environment of multiple servers, where system-resource management is very important. The authors attempted to detect anomalies from the rapid changing of the log data that are collected from the multiple servers using simple but efficient anomaly-detection techniques. Accordingly, an Apache Hive storage architecture was designed to store the log data that were collected from the multiple servers in the Hadoop ecosystem. Also, three anomaly-detection techniques were designed based on the moving-average and 3-sigma concepts. It was finally confirmed that all three of the techniques detected the abnormal intervals correctly, while the weighted anomaly-detection technique is more precise than the basic techniques. These results show an excellent approach for the detection of log-data anomalies with the use of simple techniques in the Hadoop ecosystem.
