1.6 MW class supersonic partial admission impulse turbine has been designed and tested in Korea Aerospace Research Institute for the liquid rocket engine application. The test has been performed using a high pressure air source facility in KARI. For the turbine power absorption, a hydraulic dynamometer has been used. Appropriate similarity relations are used for the determination of test condition. Various settings of turbine pressure ratio and rotational speed are tested to investigate global turbine characteristics. From measured data, parameters related to the turbine design are derived and validated.
The minimum oil film thicknesses (MOFT) in the crankshaft main bearings of a 1.5 liter, L-4, gasoline engine are measured and calculated to study the dynamically loaded engine bearing. The MOFT are measured simultaneously at each of the five main bearings using the total capacitance method(TCM). To improve the reliability of the TCM, a reasonable determination method of bearing clearance is introduced and the effects of bearipg cavitation and aeration on the test results are analyzed. Also the crankshaft is grounded by means of a slip ring instead of the friction contact method to improve the test precision. The calculation is based on the model of statically determinate beam, short bearing approximation and Mobility method. From the comparison between the measured and calculated MOFT curves, it is found that a qualitative similarity exists between them, but in all cases, measured MOFT are smaller than that of calculated. The crankshaft vibration and the imbalance of the load distribution between the engine bearings have important influence upon the MOFT curve. So it is found that the calculation result from the model of the statically determinate beam has a limitation in predicting bearing performance.

PURPOSES : Determination of particle packing model variables that can be used for formulation of new DEM based particle packing model by examining existing particle packing models METHODS : Existing particle packing models are thoroughly examined by analytical reformulation and sensitivity analysis in order to set up DEM based new particle packing model and to determine its variables. All model equations considered in this examination are represented with consistent expressions and are compared to each others to find mathematical and conceptual similarity in expressions. RESULTS : From the examination of existing models, it is observed that the models are very similar in their shapes although the derivation of the models may be different. As well, it is observed that variables used in some existing models are comprehensive enough to estimate particle packing but not applicable to DEM simulation. CONCLUSIONS : A set of variables that can be used in DEM based particle packing model is determined.

The obstacles modeling is a fundamental and significant issue for path planning and automatic navigation of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV). In this study, we propose a novel obstacles modeling method based on high resolution satellite images. It involves two main steps: extraction of obstacle features and construction of convex hulls. To extract the obstacle features, a series of operations such as sea-land segmentation, obstacles details enhancement, and morphological transformations are applied. Furthermore, an efficient algorithm is proposed to mask the obstacles into convex hulls, which mainly includes the cluster analysis of obstacles area and the determination rules of edge points. Experimental results demonstrate that the models achieved by the proposed method and the manual have high similarity. As an application, the model is used to find the optimal path for USV. The study shows that the obstacles modeling method is feasible, and it can be applied to USV path planning.
Objectives: This study aimed at revising the Korean Out-patient Groups for Korean Medicine (KOPG-OM, version 1.0) based on clinical similarity and resource use, by using the accumulated claims data, and evaluating the validity of the revised classification system. Methods: A clinical specialist panel involving 19 specialists from 8 Korean medicine (KM) specialty areas reviewed the classification tree, diagnosis groups and procedure groups in terms of clinical similarity. Several models of outpatient grouping were formulated, with the validity of each tested based on the $R^2$ coefficient of determination for the treatment costs of all visits. To add age splits, the variances of treatment costs by age groups were also analyzed. These statistical analyses were performed using KM claims data of National Health Insurance from 2010 to 2012. Results: The classification tree designed via panel discussions was used to allocate outpatient cases to 26 diagnosis groups, with cases involving procedures such as acupuncture, moxibustion and cupping, then allocated to 9 procedure groups in each diagnosis group. The cases without procedures were categorized into the visit index - medication group. This process resulted in 298 outpatient groups. The $R^2$ values for treatment costs of all visits ranged from 0.38 to 0.69 depending on the providers' types. Conclusions: The revised model of KOPG-KM has a higher validity for outpatient classification than the current system and can provide better management of the costs of outpatient care in KM.
Recently the instantaneous centre concept has been used to understand the biomechanics by which a tissue derangement causes a mechanical derangement in temporomandibular joint. In this study, four male subjects without temporomandibular joint disorder and malocclusion were selected for the determination of the instantaneous centre of rotation (I.C.R) in the mandibular movement. The habitual opening and closing paths were recorded on the sagittal plate by two spring pencils attached on the lower anterior teeth which was designed for this study, and the I.C.R. was calculated by the computer program of Rouleaux's method. Also the computer graphic opening and closing movements of mandible were obtained according to the determined I.C.R. The results obtained from this study were as follows. 1. The instantaneous centres of rotation were not positioned within the condyle in the mandibular opening and closing movement. 2. There was some similarity between the anatomical curvature of the articular emience and the movement pattern of condyle. 3. The opening path and the closing path of the most superior pl)int of the condyle stowed a slight difference. 4. At the early stage of the habitual opening movement, the condyle was moved downward. 5. The opening and closing mandibular movements were simulated by the instantaneous centre of rotation which was determined by the computer program of Rouleaux's method.
A total of 1,367 first lactation records of daughters of 81 sires, having 5 or more progeny were used to evaluate sires by 3 different methods viz., least squares (LS), best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) and derivative free restricted maximum likelihood (DFREML) method. The highest and lowest overall average breeding value of sires for first lactation 305 days or less milk yield was obtained by BLUP (1,520.72 kg) and LS method (1,502.22 kg), respectively. The accuracy, efficiency and stability of different sire evaluation methods were compared to judge their effectiveness. The error variance of DFREML method was lowest ($191,112kg^2$) and its coefficient of determination of fitting the model was highest (33.39%) revealing that this method of sire evaluation was most efficient and accurate as compared to other methods. However, the BLUP method was most stable amongst all the methods having coefficient of variation (%) very near to unadjusted data (18.72% versus 19.89%). The higher rank correlations (0.7979 to 0.9568) between different sire evaluation methods indicated that there was higher degree of similarity of ranking sires by different methods ranging from about 80 to 96 percent. However, the DFREML method seemed to be the most effective sire evaluation method as compared to other methods for the present set of data.
