  • The broadband and discrete sources of sound in small cooling fans of propeller type and centrifugal type were investigated to understand the turbulent vortex structures from many bladed fans using ANSI test plenum for small air-moving devices (AMDs). The noise measurement method uses the plenum as a test apparatus to determine the acoustic source spectral density function at each operating conditions similar to real engineering applications based on acoustic similarity laws. The characteristics of fans including the head rise vs. volumetric flow rate performance were measured using a performance test facility. The sound power spectrum is decomposed into two non-dimensional functions: an acoustic source spectral distribution function F(St,.phi.) and an acoustic system response function G(He,.phi.) where St, He, and .phi. are the Strouhal number, the Helmholtz number, and the volumetric flow rate coefficient, respectively. The autospectra of radiated noise measurements for the fan operating at several volumetric flow rates,.phi., are analyzed using acoustical similarity. The rotating stall in the small propeller fan with a bell-mouth guided is mainly due to a leading edge separation. It creates a blockage in the passage and the reduction in the flow rate. The sound power levels with respect to the rotational speeds were measured to reveal the mechanisms of stall and/or surge for different loading conditions and geometries, for example, fans installed with a impinging plate. Lee and Meecham (1993) studied the effect of the large-scale motions like impinging normally on a flat plate using Large-Eddy Simulation(LES) and Lighthill's analogy.[ASME Winter Annual Meeting 1993, 93-WA/NCA-22]. The dipole and quadrupole sources in the fans tested are shown closely related to the vortex structures involved using cross-correlations of the hot-wire and microphone signals.

  • The emergence of extended spectrum $\beta$-lactamase (ESBL) producing bacteria is worldwide concern. Until recently, the most frequently identified strains in the Republic of Korea were E. coli and Klebsiella spp. The incidence of resistance to extended spectrum $\beta$-lactam antibiotics is increasing in Wonju city, Korea. Total 57 strains of ESBL producing E. coli and Klebsiella species were isolated from Wonju Christian Hospital during a 9 month-period from April to December, 2003. To determine the prevalence and genotypes of the ESBL producing clinical isolates, antibiotic susceptibility and ESBL activity test by VITEK system and double disk synergy (DDS) test, and PCR based genotyping were performed. Fourteen (82%) isolates of 17 ESBL producing E. coli were found to have $bla_{TEM}$ gene and 5 (29%) isolates were found to have $bla_{CTX-M}$ gene by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Thirty (75%) isolates of 40 ESBL producing Klebsiella species with $bla_{TEM}$ gene, 38 (95%) isolates with $bla_{SHV}$ gene, and 7 (20%) isolates with $bla_{CTX-M}$ type gene were also identified. Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) PCR and similarity index by dendrogram for genetical similarity to band pattern of each clinical isolates were examined. ESBL producing E. coli were grouped into 6 clusters up to 84% of similarity index and Klebsiella species were grouped into 12 clusters up to 76% of similarity index. In conclusion, ESBL producing clinical isolates were characterized with the results from antimicrobial resistance pattern and genetical similarity using ERiC PCR.

  • With the gradual increase of interest in plagiarism and intelligent file content search, the demand for similarity measuring between two sentences is increasing. There is a lot of researches for sentence similarity measurement methods in various directions such as n-gram, edit-distance and LSA. However, these methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, we propose a new sentence similarity measurement method approaching from another direction. The proposed method uses the set-based POI data search that improves search performance compared to the existing hard matching method when data includes the inverse, omission, insertion and revision of characters. Using this method, we are able to measure the similarity between two sentences more accurately and more quickly. We modified the data loading and text search algorithm of the set-based POI data search. We also added a word operation algorithm and a similarity measure between two sentences expressed as a percentage. From the experimental results, we observe that our sentence similarity measurement method shows better performance than n-gram and the set-based POI data search.

  • The vibration environment essentially companied by vehicle operation on the road is determined by the shape of road surface, which is called profile. In general, the profile and severity of unpaved road is an important issue in the reliability of durability test for vehicles. In order to maintain severity of unpaved road, it is necessary to develop profilometer system. We developed profilometer system which is composed of data processing computer, power unit, air compressor and sensors. This paper focuses on the severity management of unpaved test courses using neural networks. This paper presents the maintenance range for cross-country course in CPG(Chang-won Proving Ground) and the evaluation of similarity degree between unpaved roads.

  • An experimental method to investigate the dynamic characteristics of buoys in extreme environmental condition is established. Because the buoy model requires a resonable size for accurate experiment, the test condition in model basin that satisfies the similarity law is hardly compatible with capability of test facilities. It is suggested that the linear wave component that is unable to satisfy similarity is separated with others‥‥‥

  • In this paper, a method for measuring rhythmic similarity between two sound signals for auditory memory game is proposed. The proposed method analyzes energy fluctuation, the temporal duration of energy peak, the timbre of two signals, and detects beat positions for each signal. Then, it determines the rhythm vector after compensating a difference in tempo and the number of beats between two signals. Finally, a method for rhythmic similarity measurement is defined as a function of the dissimilarity between two rhythm vectors and a difference in the number of beats. The rhythmic similarity measured by the proposed method and that by the subjective listening test are compared, and the correlation of 0.86 between two results is achieved.

  • In similarity join processing, a general technique employs a generation-verification framework, which includes two phases: the first phase generates a set of candidate pairs from a collection of records; and the second phase verifies each candidate pair by computing real similarity. In order to reduce the number of candidate pairs in the verification phase, the median of one record of each candidate pair is used as a filter in this paper to test whether the other record can has the proper number of overlapped tokens. We propose a similarity join algorithm with the median filter, and show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in execution time than recent algorithms without the filter through extensive experiments on real-world datasets.

  • This study aims at exploring the degree of phonetic similarity between Korean and Japanese vowels in terms of acoustic features by performing the speech production test on Korean speakers and Japanese speakers. For this purpose, the speech of 16 Japanese speakers for Japanese speech data, and the speech of 16 Korean speakers for Korean speech data were utilized. The findings in assessing the degree of the similarity of the 7 nearest equivalents of the Korean and Japanese vowels are as follows: First, Korean /i/ and /e/ turned out to display no significant differences in terms of F1 and F2 with their counterparts, Japanese /i/ and /e/, and the distribution of F1 and F2 of Korean /i/ and /e/ in the distributional map completely overlapped with Japanese /i/ and /e/. Accordingly, Korean /i/ and /e/ were believed to be "identical." Second, Korean /a/, /o/, and /i/ displayed a significant difference in either F1 or F2, but showed a great similarity in distribution of F1 and F2 with Japanese /a/, /o/, and /m/ respectively. Korean /a/ /o/, and /i/, therefore, were categorized as very similar to Japanese vowels. Third, Korean /u/, which has the counterpart /m/ in Japanese, showed a significant difference in both F1 and F2, and only half of the distribution overlapped. Thus, Korean /u/ was analyzed as being a moderately similar vowel to Japanese vowels. Fourth, Korean /${\wedge}$/ did not have a close counterpart in Japanese, and was classified as "the least similar vowel."

  • This paper proposes a method for identification of harmful video images based on the degree of harmfulness in the video content. To extract harmful candidate frames from the video effectively, we used a video color extraction method applying a projection map. The procedure for identifying the harmful video has five steps, first, extract the I-frames from the video and map them onto projection map. Next, calculate the similarity and select the potentially harmful, then identify the harmful images by comparing the similarity measurement value. The method estimates similarity between the extracted frames and normative images using the critical value of the projection map. Based on our experimental test, we propose how the harmful candidate frames are extracted and compared with normative images. The various experimental data proved that the image identification method based on the 2-dimensional projection map is superior to using the color histogram technique in harmful image detection performance.

  • Recently, research on automating game tests using artificial intelligence agents instead of humans is attracting attention. This paper aims to collect play data from human and artificial intelligence and analyze their similarity as a preliminary study for game balancing automation. At this time, constraints were added at the learning stage in order to create artificial intelligence that can play similar to humans. Play datas obtained 14 people and 60 artificial intelligence by playing Flippy bird games 10 times each. The collected datas compared and analyzed for movement trajectory, action position, and dead position using the cosine similarity method. As a result of the analysis, an artificial intelligence agent with a similarity of 0.9 or more with humans was found.
