  • This study was carried out to understand the effects of Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen manufactured by different production process mixed with Silk Worm Powder on blood sugar in the db/db mice. Refined Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen D(L-BCL.D and H-BCL.D) manufactured by low or high temperature production process and original Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen producted by Hanlim pham Co. (BCL) and Silk Worm Powder were used. The effects of L-BCL.D+Silk Worm Powder, H-BCL.D+Silk Worm Powdr and BCl+SWP were observed in terms of blood sugar, creatinine, BUN, GPT in db/db mice. The amount of glucose was significantly decreased (P < 0.01) in the expremental groups compared with the control. The amount of Creatinine did not show any differences among four groups. The amount of blood urea nitrogen observed significant decrease in the case of BCL group. The amount of GPT did not show any differences among four groups.

  • This study was carried out to understand the effects Of Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen and Silk Worm powder on blood sugar in the db/db mice. Refined Bambusae Caulis in LiquamenD(BCL,D)manufactured by high temperature production process and Silk Worm Powder were used. The Bambusae Caulis in Liquamen extracted from bamboo charcoal manufacturing process was filtered and refined. The effects of BCL.D + Silk Worm Powder and BCL.D were observed in terms of blood sugar, creatinine, BUN, GPT and histological examination of pancreatic tissue in db/db mice. The results were as follows : The amount of glucose was slightly decreased (P < 0.05) in the B CL.D+SWP groups compared with the control. The amount of glucose was significantly decreased (P < 0.01) in the BCL.D groups compared with the control. The amount of Creatinine did not show any differences among three groups. The amount of blood urea nitrogen observed significant decrease in the case of BCL.D groups. The amount of GPT did not show any differences among three groups. The intense of insulin-immunoreactivity of β cells showed the strongest in the normal group, and more strong in the BCL.D+SWP group compared with control group.

  • The green lacewing, Chrysopa pallens (Rambur), was reared on artificial diets supplementedwith natural products such as lyophilized beef liver, silk worm pupae powder and drone honey beepowder. The performance of the green lacewing was improved siginificantly on only the diet to whichadded 1 % of silk worm pupae powder (wt/v). Larval developement was completed in 15.6 f 0.99 days, cocoon weight was 16.4f2.94 mg, and suvival to adult was 89.3% at 27$^{\circ}$C. And another diet made bymixing 4 part of lyophilized beef liver powder, 4 part of lyophilized beef powder, 3 part of lyophilizedchicken egg, 4 part of sucrose, and 50 mg each of vitamin C and Vanderzant's vitamin B mixture waspromising. Larval development of the green lacewing on this diet was completed in 12.7 f 1.45 days at27"C, pupal weight was 18.1 f 2.24mg, suvival to adult was loo%, and 633f70.4 eggs were laid in 20days after beginning of oviposition.ginning of oviposition.

  • $ZnWO_4$ nano-powders were successfully synthesized at low temperature by polymerized complex method using zinc acetate and tungstic acid as starting materials. The polymeric precursors were heat-treated at temperatures from 300 to $600^{\circ}C$ for 3 h. The precursors and heat-treated powders were evaluated for crystallization process, thermal decomposition, surface morphology and crystallite size. Crystallization of the $ZnWO_4$ powders were detected at $400^{\circ}C$ and entirely completed at a temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. The particles heat-treated at $400^{\circ}C$ showed primarily co-mixed morphology with spherical and silk-worm-like forms, while the particles heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ showed more homogeneous morphology. The average crystalline sizes were 17.62~24.71 nm showing an ordinary tendency to increase with the temperatures from 400 to $600^{\circ}C$.

  • ZnWO$_4$ nano-powders were successfully prepared by polymerized complex method using zinc nitrate and tungstic acid as starting materials. In order to investigate the thermal decomposition and crystallization process, the polymeric precursors were heat-treated at temperatures from 300 to 600$^{\circ}$C for 3 h, and the heat-treated powders were characterized by XRD and FTIR. The surface morphology of the heat-treated powders were observed using SEM and TEM. The crystallite size was measured by X-ray analysis. Crystallization of the ZnWO$_4$ powders were detected at 400$^{\circ}$C and entirely completed at a temperature of 600$^{\circ}$C. The particles heat-treated 400 and 500$^{\circ}$C showed primarily co-mixed morphology with spherical and silkworm-like forms, while the particles heat-treated at 600$^{\circ}$C showed more homogeneous morphology. The average crystalline size were 19.9∼24.nm showing an ordinary tendency to increase with the temperatures from 400 to 600$^{\circ}$C.

  • Many type II diabetic patients use folk remedies to. treat diabetes in Korea. The physiology, pathology, usage, and prescriptions of folk remedies are not well established, and the effects of those remedies were handed down by word of mouth of experienced persons. Most of these remedies can cause unexpected side effects if consumed in large amounts since patients lack scientific backgrounds and the precise effects as well as the possible side effects have not been proven. The purpose of this survey was to investigate the prevalence of diabetic f31k remedies used by adult diabetic patients who use diet therapy to treat diabetes. This information can be used for a basic scientific approach to diabetic f31k remedies. The results of the survey were as follows : 1) Thiry-nine patients(53.4%) out of a total of 75 patients, answered that they used folk remedies. 2) There were 54 kinds of folk remedies f3r diabetes, and the most popular ones are silk worm powder, red jinseng, silkworm pupa, raw lentils, and cabbage, that to accounted for 97.4% of the experienced group. 3) The most common way to be exposed to folk remedies were recomnendations by friends and relatives, and through the mass communication such as TV, newspaper, magazine. As fir as the effects of the flok remedies goes, 17% answered that they experienced positive effects in controlling blood glucose levels and 5.7% reported negative effects. Moreover, 17.1% answered that they experienced side effects like stomach ache and bloating. 4) The 82.9% of the experienced group answered that they used silkworm powder, which was the most popular one in folk remedies. 5) 75% of the experienced group patients showed positive responses to folk remedies, saying that they will try new folk remedies if introduced. Even 66.7% of inexperienced group showed their interest saying that they will try new folk remedies.
