Laser doppler flowmeter (LDF) has been applied to the measurement of pulpal blood flow (PBF) in human teeth. As far as we searched, the detection area of the pulp in the blood flow measurement has not been clarified, yet. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to obtain information of the detection area in PBF measurement using LDF. The experiments were performed on the artificial blood circulation in extracted human upper central incisors. The apical portions of examined teeth (n=6) were severed and root canals were enlarged from the apical end to the 2mm incisal to the level of enamel-cement junction. An individual resin cap of each tooth was prepared and a hole was drilled 2mm incisal to enamel-cement junction of the labial side of the cap. The measurement probe of LDF (MBF3D, Moor Instrument, UK) was plugged into the hole of the cap. Heparinized human peripheral blood, which was in advance collected and diluted 3 times with physiological saline, was pumped through the apical foramen of the teeth via a silicone tube and a disposable needle (o.d. 0.7mm) and blood flow signals were monitored. The flux signal significantly increased with the enlargement of the root canal to incisal direction (p<0.01, Friedman analysis). The result indicates that the performance of LDF in PBF with human teeth is limited.
The effect of splinting on aqbutment tooth distal movement was performed in vitro study. An acrylic resin mandibular model with missing 2nd premolars, molars and a removable partial denture framework were constructed. The roots of the canines, 1st premolars and edentulous ridges were coated with silicone rubber. A modified Ney Surveyor was used for vertical load appkication, and abutment tooth distal movement were measured with a dial gauge with four conditions of splinting methods were tested by applying unilateral vertical loadings. The results are follows; 1. The magnitude of abutment tooth distal movement on the non-load side was less 40$\sim$69% than that occurred on the load side. 2. On the load side, reducing effect of splinting on abutment tooth movement in the condition of load side double abutment(30%), non-load side double abutment(10%), double abutments of both sides(40%) was compared with single abutments of both sides. 3. On the non-load side, reducing effect of splinting on abutment tooth movement in the condition of load side double abutment(5%), non-load side double abutment(22%), double abutments of both sides(59%) was compared with single abutments of both sides. 4. The magnitude of abutment tooth distal movement in the condition of double abutments of both sides was less 40$\sim$59% than that in the condition of single abutments of both sides.
PURPOSE. To evaluate the metameric disparities among monolithic zirconia materials with differing yttrium compositions across various lighting conditions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty-six square-shaped zirconia samples measuring 10 × 10 × 0.5 mm were prepared from monolithic zirconia materials with three different yttrium contents. A 0.2 mm thick layer of polymerized dual-polymerizable self-adhesive resin cement was created using a silicone mold with the same dimensions as the prepared zirconia specimens. To evaluate metamerism, color measurements were conducted using a spectrophotometer device on a neutral gray background in a color measurement cabinet that offers four different illumination environments. All samples underwent aging by subjecting them to 10000 thermal cycles using a thermal cycle tester. Following thermal aging, color measurements were taken once more, and the data were recorded using the CIE L*, a*, b* color system. Two-way ANOVA and Post-hoc Bonferroni tests were employed to analyze the data. RESULTS. It was observed that there was no statistical difference among the color measurements made in different illumination environments of the monolithic zirconia ceramics used to evaluate metamerism (P > .05). This observation remained consistent both before and after thermal aging. After thermal aging, the color of monolithic zirconia materials exhibited a tendency towards red and yellow hues, accompanied by a decrease in brightness levels. CONCLUSION. It can be stated that different illumination conditions did not affect the metamerism of monolithic zirconia materials, but there was a color change in monolithic zirconia materials after a thermal aging period equivalent to one year.
Objectives. The objectives of this study were: 1) to compare the effect of varying timing of light curing on shear bond strength, and; 2) to compare the shear bond strength of three self-adhesive cements. Materials and methods. A total of 72 extracted non-carious teeth were divided into 24 for Unicem tests, 24 for Maxcem tests, and 24 for Biscem tests; they were assigned 3 * 2 subgroups of 12 teeth each. The specimens were prepared as follows: 1) The calculus and periodontal ligament were removed from the teeth; 2) The teeth were stored in normal saline; 3) The occlusal enamel of each tooth was removed using high-speed coarse diamond burs under water cooling, and; 4) Finally, the teeth were flattened by 600-grit silicone carbide paper disks. Resin blocks were adhered using either Unicem, Maxcem, or Biscem. Light curing timing was divided into two groups: U10, M10, and B10 were exposed to light after 10 seconds, and; U150, M150, and B150 on the other side were exposed to light after 150 seconds. Shear bond strength was measured by a Universal testing machine with cross head speed of 1mm/min. T-test and One way ANOVA were used for the statistical analysis of data. Results. The shear bond strength of U150 was not significantly higher than that of U10 (U150: 20.55.7Mpa, U10: 18.73.80Mpa). On the other hand, the shear bond strength of M150 was significantly higher than that of M10. The shear bond strength of B150 was also significantly higher than that of B10 (M150:14.45.7Mpa, M10: 9.94.2Mpa, B150: 24.38.3Mpa, B10: 17.27.3Mpa). When the light curing timing was 10sec after bonding, the shear bond strength of Unicem was highest; the shear bond strength of Biscem was highest when the light curing timing was 150sec after bonding (U10: 18.73.80Mpa, B150: 24.38.3Mpa). Significance. Since Unicem is less sensitive based on light curing timing, dentists seem to use it without considering the light curing timing. Maxcem showed the lowest bonding strength (especially M10). Thus, when using Maxcem, dentists need to delay the light curing after adhesion.

This study investigated the effect of porcelain primer on bonding of coomposite resin to porcelain surface. In order to test the bond strength between porcelain and composite resin, porcelain cylinders were embedded in acrylic resin, and polished with 240grit silicone caqrbide paper. The specimens were divided into twelve groups. All specimens were treated with three porcelain primers and bonded with five composite resins. All test groups were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 48hours. Shear bond strengths were measured with Instron(Model 4201) at a cross-head speed of 1mm/min. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Scotchprime/Silux II group and BISCO Porcelain Primer/Bisfill group showed significant higher bond strengths than Clearfil Porcelain Primer/photo Clearfil Bright group(p<0.05). And there was no significant differences in bond strengths between Scotchprime/Silux II group and BISCO Porcelain Primer/Bisfill group(p>0.05). 2. When composite resins were used with Scotchprime, the bond strengths were decresed Silux II$(16.68{\pm}3.35MPa)$, Bisfil$(16.23{\pm}4.54MPa)$, Poly-Fill$(14.74{\pm}4.08MPa)$, Photo Clearfil Bright$(13.75{\pm}2.89MPa)$ and Pekalux$(14.74{\pm}4.08MPa)$ in order, but there was no statistical significance(p>0.05). 3. When composite resins were used with BISCO Porcelain Primer, the bond strength were decreased Bisfil$(16.17{\pm}1.60MPa)$, Silux II$(12.13{\pm}2.37MPa)$, Poly-Fill$(10.78{\pm}1.99MPa)$, Photo Cleafil Bright $(9.91{\pm}4.59MPa)$ and Pekalux$(7.36{\pm}2.16MPa)$ in order, but there was no statistical significance(p>0.05). 4. Silux II, Photo Clearfil Bright and Poly-Fill used with Scotchprime showed significant higher bond strengths than BISCO Porcelain Primer(p>0.05).
To determine the compatibilities of soft liming materials with denture cleansers by measuring the flexibility and elasticity and investigating the surface changes, 4 self-curing acrylic resin soft lining materials and 1 heat-curing silicone soft lining material were evaluated. 3mm thick x 20mm diameter discs of soft lining materials were individually bonded to a hard acrylic resin base as per manufacturers’instructions. Using an Instron universal testing machine, a static stress of $2kg/cm^2$ was applied for 30secs., the strain in compression was measured, giving an indication of the material’s flexibility. Elastic recovery was measured at 10secs. After removal of stress. Surface changes were investigated with Stereomicroscope. Then the specimens were immersed in 4alkaline peroxide denture cleansers and water as control group, tests were carried out at 1 day, 2 days, 7 days, 14 days and 30 days. The results were as follows : 1. Alkaline peroxide denture cleansers caused considerable porosity on the surface of selfcuring acrylic resin soft lining materials, and the most affected by the cleansers were Viscogel, Coe-Soft, Coe-Comfort, Lynal, in that order. 2. There was significant difference in flexibility between each soft lining material except for Coe-Comfort and Visco-gel, and every soft lining material was significant difference in elasticity. Especially Molloplast-B and Lynal were less flexible and more elastic than other soft lining materials(p<0.05). 3. The denture cleansers increased the flexibility and elasticity of the soft lining materials compared with control group(p<0.05), and Denalan, Polident, Kleenite, Efferdent affected the soft lining materials in that order. 4. There was significant difference in flexibility between each denture cleanser except for Denalan and Polident(p<0.05). Though Denalan and Polident, Denalan and Kleenite did not show significant difference in elasticity, other denture cleansers showed significant difference among each other(p<0.05). 5. Clinically Coe-Comfort, Coe-Soft and Visco-gel were incompatible with alkaline peroxide denture cleansers, and Lynal would be used within only 2 weeks. But Molloplast-B was compatible with alkaline peroxide denture cleansers.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal and internal gaps of Ni-Cr and Co-Cr copings, fabricated using the dental ${\mu}-SLA$ system. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Ten study dies were made using a two-step silicone impression with a dental stone (type IV) from the master die of a tooth. Ni-Cr (NC group) and Co-Cr (CC group) alloy copings were designed using a dental scanner, CAD software, resin coping, and casting process. In addition, 10 Ni-Cr alloy copings were manufactured using the lost-wax technique (LW group). The marginal and internal gaps in the 3 groups were measured using a digital microscope ($160{\times}$) with the silicone replica technique, and the obtained data were analyzed using the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis H test. Post-hoc comparisons were performed using Bonferroni-corrected Mann-Whitney U tests (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The mean (${\pm}$ standard deviation) values of the marginal, chamfer, axial wall, and occlusal gaps in the 3 groups were as follows: $81.5{\pm}73.8$, $98.1{\pm}76.1$, $87.1{\pm}44.8$, and $146.8{\pm}78.7{\mu}m$ in the LW group; $76.8{\pm}48.0$, $141.7{\pm}57.1$, $80.7{\pm}47.5$, and $194.69{\pm}63.8{\mu}m$ in the NC group; and $124.2{\pm}52.0$, $199.5{\pm}71.0$, $67.1{\pm}37.6$, and $244.5{\pm}58.9{\mu}m$ in the CC group. CONCLUSION. The marginal gap in the LW and NC groups were clinically acceptable. Further improvement is needed for CC group to be used clinical practice.

High-rise buildings and complex facilities are a representative urban system for the masses, and it requires an increasing role of commodity and safety. Smoke and toxic gasses can cause accidents due to fire in these systems. The purpose of this study is to develop a fiber screen material for emergency evacuation passages that can be avoided quickly and safely in cases of disasters. The fiber screen material is applicable to folding devices for emergency evacuation passages. The material is different from general steel material in that it is lightweight with less burden during storage for a long time in a roll form in a folding device. It also has an excellent secondary function in that it is less affected by radiant heat. Three kinds of fiber screen materials were selected that have good flame retardancy and post-processing characteristics. A performance evaluation was performed by a heat shrinkage test, contact heat test, combustibility test, flame retardancy test, tensile strength test, and tear strength test. As a result, the lightweight fabric shows excellent performance through post-processing, and silicone resin coating can secure safety of the pizza by the fiber screen material performance and radiant heat. The optimum post-treatment conditions were evaluated by performing a burning test after coating two kinds of glass fibers and four types of flame-retardant silicone resins with different weight and thickness.
Statement of problem. More than 70% of patients who need the implant supported restoration are parially edentulous. The principles of design for implant supported fixed partial denture in mandibular posterior region are many and varied. Jurisdiction for their use is usually based on clinical evaluation. There are several areas or interest regarding the design of implant supported fixed partial denture in mandibular posterior region. 1) Straight and tripod configuration in implant placement, 2) Two restoration types such as individualized and splinted restorations. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to compare the amount and distribution of stress around the implant fixtures placed in the mandibular posterior region with two different arrangements and to evaluate the effects of splinting using the photoelastic stress analysis. Material & methods. 1) Production of study model: Mandibular partially edentulous model was waxed-up and duplicated with silicone and two models were poured in stone. 2) Fixture installation and photoelastic model construction: Using surveyor(Ney, USh), 3 fixtures(two 4.0 $\times$13 mm, one 5.0$\times$10 mm, Lifecore, USA) were insta)led in straight & tripod configurations. Silicone molds were made and poured in photoelastic resin (PL-2. Measurements group, USA). 3) Prostheses construction: Four 3-unit bridges (Type III gold alloy, Dongmyung co., Korea) were produced with nonhexed and hexed UCLA abutments and fitted with conventional methods. The abutments were tightened with 30 Ncm torque and the static loads were applied at 12 points of the occlusal surface. 4) Photoelastic stress analysis : The polarizer analyzer system with digital camera(S-2 Pro, Fujifilm, Japan) was used to take the photoelastic fringes and analysed using computer analysis program. Results. Solitary hexed UCLA restoration developed different stress patterns between two implant arrangement configurations, but there were no stress transfer to adjacent implants from the loaded implant in both configurations. However splinted restorations showed lesser amount of stresses in the loaded implants and showed stress transfer to adjacent implants in both configurations. Solitary hexed UCLA restoration with tripod configuration developed higher stresses in anterior and middle implants under loading than implants with straight configurations. Splintied 3 unit fixed partial dentures with tripod configuration showed higher stress development in posterior implant under loading but there were no obvious differences between two configurations. Conclusions. The tripod configuration of implant arrangement didn't show any advantages over the straight configuration. Splinting of 3 unit bridges with nonhexed UCLA abutments showed less stress development around the fixtures. Solitary hexed UCLA restoration developed tilting of implant fixture under offset loads.

The demand for coating technology on electric power equipment that has arisen from such issues regarding the attaching of illegal advertisements and posters to electric power distribution boxes such as TR, SW, etc. in down town areas seeks to produce functional coating surfaces using polymers and nano-materials that will result in improvements in self-cleaning performance and greater stability even under harsh environmental conditions. KEPCO-coatings consist of copolymerized acrylic resin and methacryl-modified reactive silicone that are able to chemically combine, which results in performance improvement without any leakage of of silicone, thus contributing to its properties of high-stability. Thus, the research team has also started long-term on-site testing on 9 electric power distribution spots around a city center in cooperation with the KEPCO Daeduck-yusung branch. The KEPCO-coating technology could advance the best coating materials and processes to meet appropriate circumstances for a variety of outdoor damage environment. It is also predicted that KEPCO could be possible to expand international electric maintenance markets and to arrange business platforms if KEPCO would achieve its original technology (IPs) by the means of upgrading in self-cleaning coating technology and obtaining long-term on-site test records from nationwide electric facilities.
