Glucose Oxidase-Coated ZnO Nanowires for Glucose Sensor Applications

  • Well-aligned Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires were synthesized on silicon substrates by a carbothermal evaporation method using a mixture of ZnO and graphite powder with Au thin film was used as a catalyst. The XRD results showed that as-prepared product is the hexagonal wurzite ZnO nanostructure and SEM images demonstrated that ZnO nanowires had been grown along the [0001] direction with hexagonal cross section. As-grown ZnO nanowires were coated with glucose oxidase (GOx) for glucose sensing. Glucose converted into gluconic acid by reaction with GOx and two electrons are generated. They transfer into ZnO nanowires due to the electric force between electrons and the positively charged ZnO nanostructures in PBS. Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy was employed for investigating the movements of electrons, and the peak PL intensity increased with the glucose concentration and became saturated when the glucose concentration is above 10 mM. These results demonstrate that ZnO nanostructures have potential applications in biosensors.

Nano-scale Precision Polishing Characteristics using a Micro Quill and Magnetic Chain Structure (미세공구와 자기체인구조를 이용한 초정밀 폴리싱 특성)

  • A new polishing technique for three dimensional micro/meso-scale parts is suggested using a micro quill and a magnetic chain structure. The principle of this method is to polish the target surface with the collected magnetic brushes at a micro tool by the non-uniform magnetic field generated around the tool. In a typical magnetic abrasive finishing process magnetic particles and abrasive particles are unbonded each other. But, to finish the three dimensional small parts bonded magnetic abrasive have to be used. Bonded magnetic abrasives are made from direct bonding, and their polishing characteristics are also examined. Alumina, silicon carbide and diamond micro powders are used as abrasives. Base metal matrix is carbonyl iron powder. It is found that bonded magnetic abrasives are superior to unbonded one by experiment. finally, the polished surface roughness is evaluated by atomic force microscope.

  • the poly silicon film was deposited by APCVD. and then the deposition mechanism and electrical characteristics was investigated for that film. The grain phase, the deposition rate, and the etch characteristics were evaluated according to the deposition conditions. The criteria temperature of surface morphology state was $730^{\circ}C {\sim}780^{\circ}C$ between the mirror phase grain and the powder phase grain.

Synthesis of poly(dialkyl or monoalkyl)silanes as silicon carbide precursors for ceramic matrix composites (탄화규소 선구물질로서의 폴리(디알킬 또는 모노알킬)실란들의 합성과 세라믹 복합체 응용)

  • Polyalkylsilanes such as poly(dialkyl)silanes and poly(monoalkyl)silanes were synthesized by sonochemical dechlorination-condensation method from (dialkyl or monoalkyl)chlorosilanes with sodium metal. Those polyalkylsilanes were analyzed for the properties such as thermal behaviors from TGA analysis and obtained ceramic yields of 10-20% for poly(dialkyl)silanes and 40-60% for poly(monoalkyl)silanes. Ceramic composite discs were prepared by the combined mixture of polyalkylsilanes and SiC powder and were tested by TGA and analyzed by SEM and XRD for the application as binder for ceramic composite precursors.

Effects of Deposition Variables on Plasma-Assisted CVD of TiN Films (TiN박막의 증착특성에 미치는 플라즈마 화학증착변수들의 영향)

  • TiN films were deposited onto high speed steel(SKH9) and silicon wafer by plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition(PACVD) using a TiCl4/N2/H2/Ar gas mixture. The effects of deposition temperature, R.F. power, and H2 concentration on the deposition of TiN were studied. The residual chlorine content and the microhardness of TiN films were also investigated. It was found that TiN films grew with a columnar structure of a strong (200) preferred orientation regardless of the substrate type and the deposition variables. The TiN films consisted of columnar-grains of about 50 to 100 nm in diameter. The columnar grains themselves contained much finer fibrous grains. As deposition temperature increased, the residual chlorine content decreased sharply. R. F. powder enhanced the deposition rate largely. Increasing of H2 concentration had little effect on the residual chlorine.

Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Si-SiC-Graphite Composites (Si-SiC-Graphite 복합재료의 기계적 물성과 마찰 마모 특성)

  • Si-SiC-graphite composites were developed by incorporating solid lubricant graphite into Si-SiC, in the light of improving tribological properties of Si-SiC ceramics. Si-SiC-graphite composites were fabricated by infilterating silicon melt into the mixture of α-SiC, carbon black and graphite powder at 1750℃ under 3 Torr. The particle size of graphite was in the range of 150 to 500㎛, and the loading content of graphite was 0, 20, 25, 30, 35 vol% in the mixture of α-SiC and carbon black. The mechanical and tribological properties of this composites were studied. The density, hardness, flexural strength, compressive strength and Young's modulus were decreased with increasing of graphite content. An additiion of solid-lubricant graphite up to 30 vol% has improved tribological properties of Si-SiC ceramics without considerable degradation of mechanical properties.

  • Poling piezoelectric ceramic-polymer composites with 0-3connectivity is difficult because of the high dielectric constant of most of the ferroelectric filler materials, and the high resistivity of the polymer matrix. To aid in poling this type of composite, conductivity of the polymer phase can be controlled by adding small amount of a semiconductor phase such as germanium, carbon or silicon. In this study, flexible piezoelectric composites of $PbTiO_3$ powder and Eccogel polymer were developed using small amounts of a semiconducting phase. These composites were poled rapidly at low voltages, resulting in properties superior to composites prepared without a conductive phase. The effect of addition of various conductive phase with different volume percentage on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the composite are discussed here.

Effect of pore size and porosity on electrical breakdown behaviors of $BaTiO_3$ ceramics ($BaTiO_3$ 세라믹의 절연파괴거동에 미치는 기공의 크기와 기공율의 영향)

  • In this study, pore-containing barium titanate ceramics were prepared with different porosities and pore sizes, in order to better understand how porosity and pore size affect electrical breakdown of barium titanate ceramics. A granulated barium titanate powder was mixed with three grades of commercial polymer microspheres up to 11wt%. The electrical breakdown test was performed at two different temperatures of 30.deg. C(below Tc) and 150.deg. C(above Tc) for samples immersed in a silicon oil bath using a 60kV de power supply. Electrical breakdown strength of pore containing barium titanate ceramics with porosity lower than 10% decreased as pore size and porosity increased. However, above the 10% porosity region, electrical breakdown strength decreased as the pore connectivity increased. From the experimental results, an optimum electrical breakdown model is proposed in an attempt to explain the effect of pores.

  • The efficiency of complex slurry preparation route for developing the high performance SiC matrix of $RS-SiC_{f}/SiC$ composites has been investigated. The green bodies for RS-SiC materials prior to the infiltration of molten silicon were prepared with various C/SiC complex slurries, which associated with both the sizes of starting SiC particles and the blending conditions of starting SiC and C particles. The characterization of Rs-SiC materials was examined by means of SEM, EDS and three point bending test. Based on the mechanical property-microstructure correlation, the process optimization is also discussed. The flexural strength of Rs-SiC materials greatly depended on the content of residual Si. The decrease of starting SiC particle size in the C/SiC complex slurry was effective for improving the flexural strength of RS-SiC materials.

  • This paper suggests the selective ultra precision polishing techniques for micro die and mold parts using magnetic-assisted machining. Fabrication of magnetic abrasive particle and their polishing performance are key technology at ultra precision polishing process of micro parts. Conventional magnetic abrasives have disadvantages. which are missing of abrasive particle and inequality between magnetic particle and abrasive particle. So, bonded magnetic abrasive particles are fabricated by several method. For example, plasma melting and direct bonding. Ferrite and carbonyl iron powder are used as magnetic particle where silicon carbide and Al$_2$O$_3$ are abrasive particle. Developed particles are analyzed using measurement device such as SEM. Possibility of magnetic abrasive and polishing performance of this magnetic abrasive particles also have been investigated. After polishing, surface roughness of workpiece is reduced from 2.927 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax to 0.453 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax.
