This paper aimed to investigate the effect of MWCNTs on properties of slag Geopolymeric mortar. Geopolymeric matrices containing different MWCNTs concentrations (0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 % by weight of the used binder) were synthesized. The Geopolymer mortar composed of aluminosilicate slag to sand (1:2), while the alumino silicate source binder composed of 50% air cooled slag and 50%water cooled slag both passing a sieve of $90{\mu}m$, while the sand passing a sieve of 1 ml. The materials prepared at water/binder ratios in a range of 0.34-0.39% depending on the added MWCNT, whereas the Gelenium Ace-30 superplasticizer used in the ratio of 1.4-2.2% from the total dry weight for better dispersion of MWCNT under sonication for 15 min. Alkaline activation of the Geopolymer mortar was carried by using of 6% NaOH. Curing was performed under temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ and 100% R.H. Results showed that the addition of MWCNTs enhanced the resulting amorphous geopolymer structure with marked decrease in the drying shrinkage as well as water absorption specially when using 0.1% MWCNT, while further increase in MWCNTs results in agglomeration in MWCNT within the matrix and so hinder the propagation of Geopolymerization reaction and negatively affect the formed geopolymer structure.
In this study, modified DA-MMT filled NR/DA-MMT nanocomposites were manufactured by a latex method and a compounding method. Cure characteristics and mechanical properties of the Cloisite 15A, carbon black, Na-MMT filled NR compounds and the DA-MMT filled NR compound by a latex method were also evaluated. The filler content of all compounds was 10phr except the carbon black filled compound. Degree of intercalation and dispersion was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). According to the XRD diffraction pattern and TEM analysis, extensive intercalation and homogeneous dispersion of the clay were obtained after the two-roll milling. Although the layer distance was increased, some parts of DA-MMT showed the layer distance of Na-MMT after vulcanization. DA-MMT filled NR compounds showed the highest ODR torques, tensile strength, modulus, and tear energy. The NR/DA-MMT nanocomposite (by a latex method) compared with a NR/DA-MMT nanocomposite (by a compounding method) was found that the improvement of the mechanical properties was mainly due to the degree of dispersion of the clay.

In order to fabricate dense cordierite ceramics without sintering aid, thermal behavior of Mg-Al-Si compounds during sintering was investigated. The dispersibility of cordierite suspension in aqueous media was measured by ESA(electrokinetic sonic amplitude). To prevent aggregation and insufficient dispersion of the cordierite sol, the pH of the suspension was controlled to 1.03 and 8.30 by adding $2N\;HNO_3$ and $2N\;NH_4OH$, respectively. Magnesium-aluminum-silicate complex gel coexisted in the specimen which has been gelled at $150^{\circ}C$ fir 12 hours, however several metastable phase such as ${\mu}-cordierite(Mg_2Al_4Si_5O_{18}),\;spine(MgAl_2O_4)\;and\;mullite(Al_6Si_2O_{13})$ existed below $1300^{\circ}C$ Nucleation rates of the two suspension were similar, but densification of the gel was sensitive to the pH of the sol. Densification of the sol with the pH of 8.3 was more pronounced than that of the sol with pH of 1.63.

Ink-jet printing technology with ceramic ink of the four digital primary colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black; CMYK) can provide stable coloration even in the high-temperature firing process. Ceramic ink-jet printing can be widely applied in construction and ceramic industries due to the advantages of accurate and fast printing process of digital images for various products. Generally, organic solvent with proper viscosity and surface tension has been used in digital ink-jet printing process. However, the needs of ceramic ink without VOCs emission is increasing. In the present study, eco-friendly ceramic ink was synthesized by combining alumino boro-silicate glass frit and $CoAl_2O_4$ inorganic pigment based on an aqueous solvent that does not generate VOCs. The rheological properties and dispersion stability of aqueous ceramic ink were optimized. Jetting behavior and printing characteristics of the ceramic ink were also investigated in detail. As a result, the formulated aqueous ceramic complex ink showed a suitable jetting behavior without satellite drop by adjusting viscosity and surface tension. The ceramic ink can be printed on glass substrate with minimized spreading phenomena duo to high contact angle.
Clay-loaded polypropylene (PP) nanocomposites were fabricated via melt-compounding of two molecular weight ($M_w$) PPs (140 and 410 kg/mol) and octadecylammine-treated clay (C18MMT), with the assistance of maleic anhydride-grafted PP(PP-MAH), respectively, at $170^{\circ}C$ and $190^{\circ}C$. At both melt-compounding temperatures, the low-$M_w$ PP tends to easily diffuse into silicate layers, especially in the presence of the mobile PP-MAH, resulting in a marked increase in silicate layer spacing (above 58 $\AA$), when compared to 27 $\AA$ in the high-$M_w$ PP-based system. Due to relatively lower melt-viscosity of the low-$M_w$ PP-based system, however, there existed quasi-stacked clay aggregates with a thickness of 60~80 nm, while the high-$M_w$ PP-based nanocomposites showed relatively homogeneous dispersion of clays. The different morphologies are mainly related to changes in the viscoelastic properties of PPs, dependent on the processing temperature and their $M_{w}s$. The slight differences in nanocomposites induce discernible crystallization and mechanical behaviors. High-$M_w$ PP-based nanocomposites containing 1~3 wt% C18MMT showed improvement in both tensile strength and modulus, while maintaining the inherent ductility of pure PP.
Recently, elastomer-nanocomposites reinforced with low volume fraction of nanofillers have attracted great interest due to their fascinating properties. The incorporation of nanofillers, such as, layered silicate clays, carbon nanotubes, nanofibers, calcium carbonate, metal oxides or silica nanoparticles into elastomers improves significantly their mechanical, thermal, dynamic mechanical, barrier properties, flame retardancy, etc. The properties of nanocomposites depend greatly on the chemistry of polymer matrices, nature of nanofillers, and the method in which they are prepared. The uniform dispersion of nanofillers in elastomer matrices is a general prerequisite for achieving desired mechanical and physical characteristics. In this paper, current developments in the field of elastomer nanocomposites reinforced with layered silicates, silica, carbon nanotubes, nanofibers and various other nanoparticles have been addressed.
Present research is mainly focused on, microstructural and durability analysis of Graphene Oxide (GO) in Wollastonite (WO) induced cement mortar with silica fume. The study was conducted by evaluating the mechanical properties (compressive and flexural strength), durability properties (water absorption, sorptivity and sulphate resistance) and microstructural analysis by SEM. Cement mortar mix prepared by replacing 10% ordinary portland cement with SF was considered as the control mix. Wollastonite replacement level varied from 0 to 20% by weight of cement. The optimum replacement of wollastonite was found to be 15% and this was followed by four sets of mortar specimens with varying substitution levels of cementitious material with GO at dosage rates of 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3% and 0.4% by weight. The results indicated that the addition of up to 15%WO and 0.3% GO improves the hydration process and increase the compressive strength and flexural strength of the mortar due to the pore volume reduction, thereby strengthening the mortar mix. The resistance to water penetration and sulphate attack of mortar mixes were generally improved with the dosage of GO in presence of 15% Wollastonite and 10% silica fume content in the mortar mix. Furthermore, FE-SEM test results showed that the WO influences the lattice framework of the cement hydration products increasing the bonding between silica fume particles and cement. The optimum mix containing 0.3% GO with 15% WO replacement exhibited extensive C-S-H formation along with a uniform densified structure indicating that calcium meta-silicate has filled the pores.
Montmorillonite (MMT) modified with siloxane diamine was reacted with a reactant obtained from 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) and polyester type polyol, $Nippollan4010(\bar{M}_n2000)$. Finally, polyurethane (PU)/MMT composites were prepared by using 1,4-butane diol as a chain extender in $25\;wt\%$ solution of N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). It was expected that these nanocomposites had superior exfoliation property to that of MMT dispersed polyurethanes produced by simple mixing due to insertion of siloxane main chain to the silicate interlayer of MMT. Extent of reaction and formation of final products were analysed by using FT-IR spectroscopy. Dispersion into the PU and intercalation of MMT were identified by applying X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Tensile data were acquired by universal test machine (UTM). Thermal stability and variation of surface energy were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) method and measurement of contact angle on the synthesized composites, respectively. As the results the organo-MMT modified with siloxane diamine in the PU composites has an intercalated structure relatively well-expanded rather than a completely exfoliated structure. The tensile strengths and the moduli for the PU/organo-MMT composites were drastically enhanced in comparison to those of $PU/Na^+-MMT$ composites.
Modified polypropylene (m-PP) was fabricated by furfuryl sulphide (FS) as branching agent and m-PP/nano-filler composites were prepared with silicate and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), using a twin screw extruder. The chemical structures and thermal properties of the m-PP were investigated by FTIR and DSC. The chemical structure of the m-PP was confirmed by the existence of =C-H stretching peak of the branching agent at 3100 $cm^{-1}$. There was no district change in melting temperature in case of m-PP, but a certain increase in crystallization temperature was notified and the increase was in the range of $10-20^{\circ}C$. The rheological properties, filler dispersion and foaming behaviors of the m-PP/nano-filler composites were investigated by dynamic rheometer, X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning/transmission electron microscope (SEM/TEM). m-PP/nano-filler composites showed a high complex viscosity at a low frequency, an increase in melt elasticity, and a high shear thinning effect. Compared to pure PP, m-PP and m-PP/nano-filler composites were sufficient to enhance the foaming behavior.
Cement-asbestos slate is the main asbestos containing material. It is a product made by combining 10~20% of asbestos and cement components. Man- and weathering-induced degradation of the cement-asbestos slates makes them a source of dispersion of asbestos fibres and represents a priority cause of concern. When the asbestos enters the human body, it causes cellular damage or deformation, and is not discharged well in vitro, and has been proven to cause diseases such as lung cancer, asbestos, malignant mesothelioma and pleural thickening. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has designated asbestos as a group 1 carcinogen. Currently, most of these slats are disposed in a designated landfill, but the landfill capacity is approaching its limit, and there is a potential risk of exposure to the external environment even if it is land-filled. Therefore, this study aimed to exam the possibility of detoxification of asbestos-containing slate by using exothermic reaction and heat treatment. Cement-asbestos slate from the asbestos removal site was used for this experiment. Exothermic catalysts such as calcium chloride(CaCl2), magnesium chloride(MgCl2), sodium hydroxide(NaOH), sodium silicate(Na2SiO3), kaolin[Al2Si2O5(OH)4)], and talc[Mg3Si4O10(OH)2] were used. Six catalysts were applied to the cement-asbestos slate, respectively and then analyzed using TG-DTA. Based on the TG-DTA results, the heat treatment temperature for cement-asbestos slate transformation was determined at 750℃. XRD, SEM-EDS and TEM-EDS analyses were performed on the samples after the six catalysts applied to the slate and heat-treated at 750℃ for 2 hours. It was confirmed that chrysotile[Mg3Si2O5(OH5)] in the cement-asbestos slate was transformed into forsterite (Mg2SiO4) by catalysts and heat treatment. In addition, the change in the shape of minerals was observed by applying a physical force to the slate and the heat treated slate after coating catalysts. As a result, the chrysotile in the cement-asbestos slate maintained fibrous form, but the cement-asbestos slate after heat treatment of applying catalyst was broken into non-fibrous form. Therefore, this study shows the possibility to safely verify the complete transformation of asbestos minerals in this catalyst- and temperature-induced process.
