Turbo-charger noise radiated from air intake part is one of the most important noise sources in diesel power plant. In this paper, intake noise control of the diesel power plant was studied using parallel baffle type silencer and concentric hole-cavity resonator simultaneously. Firstly, acoustical characteristics and attenuation performance for parallel baffle type silencer were investigated through theoretical approach and experimental method. Based on the results, optimal design of the parallel baffle silencer was suggested. Secondly, for reducing the low frequency noise contained in the intake noise, the concentric hole-type resonator was developed and the acoustic performance was verified from the test. By combining two types of silencers, it is expected that the overall insertion loss is about 50 dB. So, the combined silencer is very helpful in reducing the intake noise of diesel power plant.
Various acoustic tests were carried out to investigate the acoustic performance of diesel engine exhaust silencers. In order to consider flow effects, test equipment composed of fan, duct and silencer was set up. Using the test equipment, insertion loss tests were carried out to improve the performance in the low-frequency ranges. Through a series of tests, the fact that array resonators may be effective in the low-frequency noise has been verified. Consequently, the hybrid-type silencer which is the combination of reflective silencer with array resonators and conventional absorptive silencer were proposed and its high acoustic performance in the low-frequency range has also been verified.
The impulse noise of bullet after shooting in small arms has an effect on the hearing ability of human. Although a silencer has been developed for noise reduction in small arms, there is only a few researches about relationships between the sound pressure level and the auditory sense of human. In this study, the quantitative sound pressure levels are revealed by experimental measurements of impulse noise with each silencer type. And the performance evaluation for noise suppression of a silencer in small arms is carried out to reduce a serious loss of the hearing ability of the small arms user. It is concluded that the evaluated results can be utilized for checking sound pressure and data accumulation for new small arms design with silencer.
A numerical analysis for a silencer with three baffles of 120mm tank gun has been performed. The Reynolds-Averaged Wavier-Stokes equations with Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model were employed to compute unsteady, compressible flow inside the tank gun and the silencer. An axisymmetric computational domain was constructed by using 12 multi block chimera grids. The resolution of flow field is observed by depicting calculated pressure and muzzle brake force. The peak blast pressure and noise through the silencer reduced approximately 99% and 41dB in comparison to the tank gun without the silencer at near filed.
Object of this study is to develop an Stack Silencer System for quieting abnormal noise around power plant. Abnormal noise gets resident people to feel uncomfortable. Stack Silencer System is to minimize pressure loss of exhaust gas and to maximize noise reduction effect from abnormal noise frequency band. Stack Silencer System is installation in stack and absorbing material is an aluminum foam. Reduction effect measures insertion loss of $8.2{\sim}19.4dB$ by Stack silencer installation. After Stack Silencer System installation, pressure loss of exhaust gas measured $5{\sim}9mmH_2O$.
Development of a silencer to Reduce Noise of Cross Talking in Apartment & Stores and air conditioning to fan Composite silencer application a specific of resonant type and expansion type, design possibility at reduction frequency. This silencer test result develop reduce 20dB of specification frequency. Pressure loss 2mmAq. This silencer is special of brief structure and possibility disjoint and joint, simple installation and maintenance.
From the flow analysis of the silencer for 8 kW diesel generators, the following results were obtained. For silencer-1, it was confirmed that the holes formed at the inlet-side portion connect into the exhaust pipe in the chamber. The exhaust pipe installed inside silencer-1 was integrally connected through the holes in the chamber. As a result, it was confirmed that the pressure inside the chamber was kept stable. It was confirmed that the pressure loss generated inside an absorptive type silencer such as silencer-2 was small. The differential pressure of the inlet-outlet of silencer-1 and silencer-2 was confirmed to be 494 Pa at 15 m/s, 859 Pa at 20 m/s, 1326 Pa at 25 m/s, and 1911 Pa at 30 m/s.
Fluid-borne noise produced by seawater circulating pumps propagates through the seawater connected pipes and radiates from the hull opening of a ship. This noise causes the increases of underwater radiated noise and self noise of ship. To reduce the noise propagation through the seawater connected pipes, absorptive silencer must be needed. In this paper, theoretical model to analyze the transmission loss of absorptive silencer was presented and the design parameters of absorptive silencer were verified. Theoretical calculations were performed according to a thickness, a length, an internal pressure and mechanical properties of its absorptive material in order to analyze the characteristics of absorptive silencer. From the theoretical calculation results, the absorptive silencer was manufactured and transmission loss was measured in the test facilities. The results of theory and measurement are compared and discussed.
A method of measuring the transmission loss of silencer using two microphone technique is described. Two microphone methol is used to elliminate the measurement error due to reflected wave spectra in inlet/outlet duct of silencer. Errors associated with the measurement method are studied. Henceforth the methods to effectively supress the influence are presented. Based on these considertions, the appropriate procedure of experimental set-up to measure the transmission loss a silencer is described with experimental verifications.
The flow of steam through a safety valve vent pipe system in the boiler has been analyzed to provide a design basis of diffuser silencer for attenuating shock-shell and jet noise. Numerical analysis to estimate inner fluid of silencer and noise propagation outside silencer are performed. The distribution curve of fluid information to provide average values about inner fluid of silencer is presented by theoretical analysis.
