We present a sequential factorization method using singular value decomposition (SVD) for recovering both the three-dimensional shape of an object and the motion of camera from a sequence of images. We employ paraperpective projection [6] for camera model to handle significant translational motion toward the camera or across the image. The proposed mthod not only quickly gives robust and accurate results, but also provides results at each frame becauseit is a sequential method. These properties make our method practically applicable to real time applications. Considerable research has been devoted to the problem of recovering motion and shape of object from image [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]. Among many different approaches, we adopt a factorization method using SVD because of its robustness and computational efficiency. The factorization method based on batch-type computation, originally proposed by Tomasi and Kanade [1] proposed the feature trajectory information using singular value decomposition (SVD). Morita and Kanade [10] have extenened [1] to asequential type solution. However, Both methods used an orthographic projection and they cannot be applied to image sequences containing significant translational motion toward the camera or across the image. Poleman and Kanade [11] have developed a batch-type factorization method using paraperspective camera model is a sueful technique, the method cannot be employed for real-time applications because it is based on batch-type computation. This work presents a sequential factorization methodusing SVD for paraperspective projection. Initial experimental results show that the performance of our method is almost equivalent to that of [11] although it is sequential.
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the concurrent validity and clinical usefulness of the universal plastic goniometer to measure the range of motion of the internal and external rotation of the hip joint using the three dimensional motion analysis which can analyze the joints and segment movements in the most objective and quantitative method. METHODS: Clinical and kinematic data were collected from thirty individuals using a universal plastic goniometer and a ten camera motion analysis system. Passive hip rotation range was obtained three trials for left and right hip joints using two measure methods simultaneously. RESULTS: There were significant differences between all matching measures of the two measures of internal and external rotation of the hip joint (p<.05). The relationship between the two tests for all measurements of the internal and external rotation of the hip was statistically significant with correlation coefficient form r=.87 to .96. (p<.01). CONCLUSION: Clinical measurement of the internal and external rotation of the hip using a universal plastic goniometer is effective to assess the hip condition. However, application of universal plastic goniometer requires careful attention in more accurate evaluation and research verification of the internal and external rotation of hip joint.
The goal of this study was to contemplate the impact of emotional elements of motion graphics on the brand preference in websites of TV products. To attain the goal, the emotional elements of motion graphics in websites of TV products, i.e., color, graphic image, typography, and layout, were set as independent variables and the brand preference as a dependent variable. The variables were analyzed objectively. Samples were collected from selected design students attending technical colleges. Among 282 samples collected, 15 were discarded as unfeasible and the remaining 267 were used in the analysis. Statistical analysis techniques used in the study included factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis; and 'SPSS Win. 11.5' was used to perform the statistical analysis. From the analysis, the following two results were obtained. First, it appeared that emotional elements of motion graphics appeared in websites of TV products exerted statistically significant impacts on the brand preference. Second, the element exerting the most significant impact on the brand preference among the emotional elements were appeared as 'graphic image' and 'color'. Thus, it was concluded that it is necessary to give priority in 'graphic image' and 'color' to enhance the brand preference.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of continuous passive motion(CPM) and continuous active motion(CAM) on proprioception of the knee after total knee replacement(TKR). Methods: Twenty patients with TKR were randomly allocated into two groups, the CPM group(n=10) and the CAM group(n=10). All subjects were evaluated for levels of pain, passive range of motion and angle reproduction of the knee. An angle reproduction test was used to assess the proprioceptive deficit. Two types of angle reproduction test were used: a passive angle reproduction(PAR) test and an active angle reproduction(AAR) test. The relevant examinations were performed before and after intervention(on the 5th day and the 10th day). The statistical significance were calculated using a t-test and a one-way repeated ANOVA. Results: A pre-intervention significant difference was not found between the two groups. Significantly better results were before and after the intervention at 10 days, for the PAR(flexion direction) test; however, only in the CAM group. There were no significant difference, either before or after the intervention, for the AAR test(flexion and extension direction) in both group. Both groups experienced similar levels of pain and passive range of knee motion before and after the intervention. Conclusion: This study revealed that CAM was a better effect to restore position sense of the knee joint after TKR.
The purpose of this study is to see the effect of functional electrical stimulation on forced vital capacity and alternating motion rate in children with spastic cerebral palsy. This study divided 20 children with spastic cerebral palsy into two groups; functional electrical stimulation treatment group and control group. Functional electrical stimulation treatment group had 20min per day treatment three times a week for four weeks and the control group did not have any treatment. Before and after intervention, this study measured forced vital capacity and alternate motion rate(/peo/,/teo/) for all children. Forced vital capacity showed statistically significant increase for the group with functional electrical stimulation(p<.05) while the control group did not show any significant increase(p>.05). Alternate motion rate showed statistically significant increase for the group with functional electrical stimulation(p<.05) while the control group did not show any significant increase(p>.05). This result shows that functional electrical stimulation affected the ability of the children with spastic cerebral palsy who have decreased breathing and phonation capability.
The purpose of this paper was to compare of difference between energy walking and normal walking. Subjects were selected 8 male undergraduates. The kinematic variables of a pelvis and a thorax were analysed at the take off and contact with 3d cinematography. In addition to the variables, the phase plot angle was calculated in order to definite characteristics in the phase space. The pelvic angle and angular velocity showed significant differences in the flexion/extension between two walking patterns. The pelvic angle and angular velocity were increasing when walking speed was increasing and magnitude of the variables of energy walking was larger than corresponding values for normal walking. On the other hand, the thoracic angle demonstrated significant differences in the flexion/extension and rotation between two walking patterns. The angles of energy walking were smaller in the flexion/extension and were larger in the rotation than the angle of normal walking. The kinematic characteristics of energy walking were also showed clearly significant differences in the range of motion and the relative angle of the trunk. The angle of phase plot only showed demonstrated a significant difference in the rotation at contact between the two walking patterns.
This embedded module measures significant wave height and zero crossing periods through spectral energy from a record of time series heave motion. An ARM7TDMI core microcontroller serves as the main control unit which performs the appropriate control and signal conditioning. Monitored wave characteristic is transmitted with satellite modem. Mathematical equations on signal conditioning and experiments procedures are documented in this paper.
The vertical center of gravity (VCG) has a significant impact on the roll motion response of a surface ship, particularly oil tankers based on the oil level in the tanker after discharging oil at several stations or positional changes, such as changes in the superstructure and deck structure. This study examined the motion response of the Korea very large crude carrier 2 (KVLCC2) at various VCGs, especially roll motion when the VCG changed. The potential theory in the Ansys AQWA program was used as a numerical simulation method to calculate the motion response. On the other hand, the calculations obtained through potential theory overestimated the roll amplitudes during resonance and lacked precision. Therefore, roll damping is a necessary parameter that accounts for the viscosity effect by performing an experimental roll decay. The roll decay test estimated the roll damping coefficients for various VCGs using Froude's method. The motion response of the ship in regular waves was evaluated for various VCGs using the estimated roll-damping coefficients. In addition, the reliability of the numerical simulation in motion response was verified with those of the experiment method reported elsewhere. The simulation results showed that the responses of the surge, sway, heave, pitch, and yaw motion were not affected by changing the VCG, but the natural frequency and magnitude of the peak value of the roll motion response varied with the VCG.

Motion estimation is a core part of most video compression systems since it directly affects the output video quality and the encoding time. The full search (FS) technique gives the highest visual quality but has the problem of a significant computational load. To solve this problem, we present in this paper a modified median (MMED) operation and advanced search strategies for fast motion estimation. The proposed MMED operation includes a temporally co-located motion vector (MV) to select an appropriate initial candidate. Moreover, we introduce a search procedure that reduces the number of thresholds and simplifies the early termination conditions for the determination of a final MV. The experimental results show that the proposed approach achieves substantial speedup compared with the conventional methods including the motion vector field adaptive search technique (MVFAST) and predictive MVFAST (PMVFAST). The proposed algorithm also improves the PSNR values by increasing the correlation between the MVs, compared with the FS method.

The purpose of this study was to assess the intra-tester and inter-tester reliability and validity of elbow flexion range of motion using a smart phone used by the general public. Thirty-one general people participated in this study. The range of motion in active elbow flexion was measured with a goniometer and smart phone over two times by two observers. The intra-taster and inter-tester reliability were evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC). The validity was measured by Pearson's correlation coefficient. The intra-observer reliability was good in all measured items ICC>0.900. The inter-observer reliability was high with ICC>0.806. All correlation coefficients of android app and goniometer were greater than 0.868 and showed a significant positive correlation (p<0.01). The range of motion measurement with a smart phone showed acceptable reliability. Therefore, using a smartphone to measure the range of motion of the elbow joint could provide convenience and economic benefits.
