  • This study proposes the post-processor simulator construction of ultrasonic signal for integrity evaluation of railway truck. For these purposes, the ultrasonic signals for defects(crack) of weld zone in frames are acquired in the type of time series data and echo strength. The detection of the natural defects in railway truck is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. The constructed post-processor simulator agree fairly well with the measured results of test block(defect location, beam propagation distance, echo strength, etc). Proposed post-processor simulator construction of ultrasonic in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of railway truck.

  • Mobile Sensor Vehicles, nodes of Mobile Sensor Network, are navigating for a specific, maybe unknown, region. For the precise usage of MSN, MSV has to be able to do localization by integrating information through communication by each other. In addition, MSV should be localized with various sensors equipped. In this research, we propose a set of techniques that improve accuracy using human mimic by combining and exploiting the existing techniques such as Dead-Reckoning, Computer Vision and Received Signal Strength Identification.

  • Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) error is the most common and also a major source of errors in wireless location system. A novel weighting factor (NWF) method is presented in this paper, based on the RSS(Received Signal Strength) measurements, path loss model and Circular Disk of Scatterers Model (CDSM). The proposed positioning method effectively weighted the TOA distance measurements for each Base Station (BS). Simulation results show that the proposed method efficiently weighted the distance measurements and achieve higher localization accuracy than that of Linear Line of Position (LLOP) and Believable Factor Algorithm (BFA).

  • In this paper, we propose a method for a mobile robot to estimate a specific location of a service provision target using a beacon-tag for the purpose of providing location-based services (LBS) to users in an indoor environment. To estimate the location, the irregular characteristics and error factors of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) generated from the beacon are analyzed, and the distance conversion function is derived from the RSSI data extracted by applying a Gaussian filter. Then, the distance data converted from the plurality of beacons estimates an indoor location through a triangulation technique. After that, the improvement in the location estimation is analyzed by applying the temporal confidence reasoning technique. The possibility of providing a LBS of a mobile robot was confirmed through a location estimation experiment for a plurality of designated locations in an indoor environment.

  • Since the first commercialization of beacon-based services in 2011, various services have been provided to improve Bluetooth performance, and research has been conducted to accurately recognize user locations using beacons. The various measurement methods of indoor positioning systems (IPS) include methods using receiver signal strength indicator (RSSI) the strength of which varies greatly in accuracy depending on whether there are obstacles such as cement walls or doors. In this paper, we present a method to provide accurate positioning services even in the presence of obstacles in indoor spaces. To this end, we connect the HM-10 module supporting the beacon with Arduino Uno, to place beacons in three directions in real-world indoor space, and derive an optimal trilateration equation. Based on the derivation, we select the optimal expression for calculating the distance between the beacon and the moving station and use it to verify the coordinate determination for the moving station.

  • This paper proposed indoor location recognition method based on RSSI (received signal strength indication) using the LVQ (Learning Vector Quantization) network. The LVQ inputs are the RSSI values measured by the fixed reference nodes and the output are the spatial sections. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we performed experiments, and then compared to the conventional triangularity measurement method.

  • The separation of spectrally overlapped broadband echo signals from free-swimming Japanese needlefish Hypohamphus sajori using the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) was investigated. The broadband echo signals were measured over frequency ranges of 40-80 and 110-220 kHz. The overlapped echo signals were separated after eliminating noise signals in the smoothed pseudo-Wigner-Ville distribution domain. The echo signal from a 40 mm WC sphere suspended just below a chirp transducer was used to calibrate the broadband of the chirp echo sounder and estimate the frequency dependence of target strength for the separated echo signals. The experimental results show that the proposed FrFT method can analyze the time-frequency image of broadband echo signals from free-swimming individual fish effectively and can be used as a quantitative tool for extracting the acoustic features used for fish species identification.

  • This paper presents a method of location sensing of mobile objects using RF devices. By analyzing signal strengths between a certain number of fixed RF devices and a moving RF device, we can recognize the location of a moving object in real time. Firstly, signal strength values between RF devices are gathered, and then the values are normalized and constructed as a model feature vector for specific location. A number of model patterns are acquired and registered for all of the location which we want to recognize. For location sensing, signal strength information for an arbitrary moving RF device is acquired and compared with model feature vectors registered previously. In this case, distance value is calculated and the moving RF device is classified as one of the known model patterns. Experimental results show that our methods have performed the location sensing successfully with 100% rate of recognition when the number of fixed RF devices is 10 or more than 12. In terms of cost and applicability, experimental results seem to be very encouraging.

  • After permission for utilization of TV white space by FCC, a lot of attentions are focused on spectrum sensing, and various spectrum sensing methods have been proposed. However, they do not consider real environment, thus they are hard to achieve the required performance. In this paper, we propose resolutions for the problem which could be occurred in implementation of spectrum sensing module and verify performance of the proposed methods with computer simulation. The first proposed method utilizes channel status information to separate received signal and spurious for reducing false alarm probability caused by system internal spurious. The another proposed scheme is subband normalization method to prevent miss detection caused by multiple narrow band signals with different received signal strength. The simulation results verify that we can prevent false alarm cause by spurious components with the proposed system internal spurious cognition. Moreover, the proposed subband normalization method shows that it could overcome performance degradation caused by received signal strength difference.

  • When a active sonar signal is transmitted and returned back from a target, it has been distorted by various properties of acoustic channel such as multipath arrivals. And signals have been appeared to be different form by target position and attitude. Therefore, we simulated the target echo signal using 3 dimensional target model include reflects target features. In this paper, we develop components form of a simulated target model is made up equally spaced highlight points, and each part of the target consists of shape function. We can simulate a target echo signal and Target strength (TS) according to wave incident angle. To verify, we made small scale target in kit form and we had got underwater target signal for comparing simulation result in water tank.
