  • Many researches on the identification of a system have been carried out using a least square method, an adaptive filter, and so on. However, it is difficult to apply these methods in a nonlinear system. In the case of a nonlinear system, it is known that the signal compression method is able to estimate uncertain parameters of linear element in a nonlinear system because it is able to separate linear element and nonlinear element in a nonlinear system. However, the signal compression method cannot be applied to a motion simulator because actuators of the simulator is single-rod cylinders which includes expansion and compression dynamic properties. Therefore, this paper proposes a modified signal compression method which is able to estimate uncertain parameters of the motion simulator dynamics. The dynamic properties of this system are identified by separating expansion and compression properties when applying the signal compression method. And then, the identified parameters are applied to design a sliding mode controller for the simulator. The performance of the designed sliding mode controller is evaluated experimentally.

  • In case of a single input single output (SISO) system with a nonlinear term, a signal compression method is useful to identify a system because the equivalent impulse response of linear part from the system can be extracted by the method. However even though the signal compression method is useful to estimate uncertain parameters of the system, the method cannot be directly applied to a unique system with hysteresis characteristics because it cannot estimate all of the two different dynamic properties according to its motion direction. This paper proposes a signal compression method with a pre-processor to identify a unique system with two different dynamics according to its motion direction. The pre-processor plays a role of separating expansion and retraction properties from the system with hysteresis characteristics. For evaluating performance of the proposed approach, a simulation to estimate the assumed unknown parameters for an arbitrary known model is carried out. A motion platform with several single-rod cylinders is a representative unique system with two different dynamics, because each single-rod cylinder has expansion and retraction dynamic properties according to its motion direction. The nominal constant parameters of the motion platform are experimentally identified by using the proposed method. As its application, the identified parameters are applied to a design of a sliding mode controller for the simulator.

  • Unknown parameters of a nonlinear system were estimated using a signal compression method. The estimated parameters were natural frequency and tile damping coefficient. This study applied a algorithm using tile comparison of the cross-correlation coefficient between the impulse response from a model and it from the signal compression method. The impulse through linear element included in a nonlinear system could be obtained by the signal compression method. The unknown parameters of the linear element could be estimated by comparing the Bode plots of system's impulse response with them of model's response. In this study, a LSCM(LabVIEW-Signal-Compression-Method) was developed to identify a nonlinear system. The LSCM consisted of National Instrument's (NI) Data Acquisition (DAQ) Board (Model PCI-1200), a monitoring program using LabVIEW software package, DAQ Signal Accessory Board, and 2nd-order electric circuits. The designed electric circuits consisted of resistors, inductors and capacitors. To evaluate the performance of the LSCM, the response from model with known parameters is compared with the response from the real system using the monitoring program. The results from simulation of experiment showed that the developed LSCM provided a reliable estimation performance.

  • In recent year, the interests of PQ is increase due to the increasing of non-linear load and distributed power sources in power system. For the parameters detection and feature extraction of PQ, and the PQ improvement method, continuous power signal monitering is needed. In this paper, the power signal compression and reconstruction method is suggested for power signal monitering. The power signal is compressed using DCT that has good compression performance, and the compressed signal is reconstructed through IDCT. And for the higher compression rate, DCT coefficients are arranged by magnitude in compression process, and in recouction process DCT coefficients are rearranged to original frequency position. The synthesized signal according to the IEC standard is used used in compression and reconstruction simulations. The performances of the proposed method are verified by comparing the error between synthesized signal and reconstructed signal.

  • The line-of-sight(LOS) stabilization system is a precision electro-mechanical gimbals assembly for suppressing vibration due to its environment and tracking the target in a desired direction. This paper describes the design of gimbals system to reject the disturbance and to improve stabilization. The controller consists of a DSP with transducer and actuator interfaces. Unknown parameters of the gimbals are estimated by the signal compression method. The cross-correlation coefficient between the impulse response from the assumed model and the one from model of the gimbals is used to obtain the better estimation. The quasi-impulse response through linear element included in the gimbals could be obtained by the signal compression method. The unknown parameter of the linear element could be estimated as comparing the bode plots for impulse response from gimbals with them from model's response.

  • In digital signal processing, the polyphase decomposition of signal has been often used in the implementation of multirate system. Especially, in the design of digital filter and so forth the method in very useful to improve the performance of various algorithms because it provides the multi-channel for paralled processing. Generally, the polyphase-decomposed signals tend to expand the frequency band by including more high frequencies than original signal from decimation for down sampling. This property brings about the significant limitation in the structure or the performance of digital polyphase signal processing system. In this paper we theoretically propose a perfect band compression and reconstruction method for polyphase component signals, then experimentally show its effectiveness through Matlab simulation.

  • ECG signal has the feature that is repeated in a cycle of P, Q, R, S, and T waves and is sampled at a high sampling frequency in general. By using the feature of periodic ECG signals, maximizing compression efficiency while minimizing the loss of important information for diagnosis is required. However, the periodic characteristics of such amplitude and period is not constant by measuring time and patients. Even though measured at the same time, the patient's characteristics display different periodic intervals. In this paper, an adaptive multi-level coding is provided by coding adaptively the dominant and non-dominant signal interval of the ECG signal. The proposed method can maximize the compression efficiency by using a multi-level code that applies different compression ratios considering information loss associated with the dominant signal intervals and non-dominant signal intervals. For the case of long time measurement, this method has a merit of maximizing compression ratio compared with existing compression methods that do not use the periodicity of the ECG signal and for the lossless compression coding of non-dominant signal intervals, the method has an advantage that can be stored without loss of information. The effectiveness of the ECG signal compression is proved throughout the experiment on ECG signal of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database.

  • In the recent years, various researches about the signal processing have been presented to improve the performance of power analysis. Among these signal processing techniques, the research about the signal compression is not enough than a signal alignment and a noise reduction; even though that can reduce considerably the computation time for the power analysis. But, the existing compression method can sometimes reduce the performance of the power analysis because those are the unsophisticated method not considering the characteristic of the signal. In this paper, we propose the new PCA (principal component analysis)-based signal compression method, which can block the loss of the meaningful factor of the original signal as much as possible, considering the characteristic of the signal. Also, we prove the performance of our method by carrying out the experiment.

  • The pulse compression technique using Linear FM signal is commonly used for improving the performance of both the detection range and range resolution in radar system. In general, the compressed LFM waveform has relatively large sidelobe level which may prevent a target from being detected when strong jammer or clutter signal is near the target signal. In this paper, we propose a new weighting method which uses the square-root weight to suppress the sidelobe level. Typical applications are missile seekers and tracking radar systems where target tracking range is available prior to the signal processing. By computer simulation, we show that the performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional weighting methods in terms of sidelobe suppression.
