  • An efficient peak detection algorithm in magnitude spectrum is proposed to distinguish the M-frequency shift keying(FSK) signals from other digitally modulated signal. In addition, recognition of the modulation order estimation of FSK signals is also studied based on the fact that the magnitude spectrum of FSK signals reveals the number of peaks equal to the modulation order. When no a priori information about the signals, we utilize the histogram of the magnitude spectrum to determine the threshold which is important factor in peak detection algorithm. The simulation results show high probability of classification under 500 symbols and signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) higher than 4dB.

  • Although the overproduction of prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) in intestinal epithelial cells has been considered to be highly correlated with the colorectal carcinogenesis, the precise mechanism of action remains poorly elucidated. Accumulating evidence suggests that the PGE receptor (EP)-mediated signal transduction pathway might play an important role in this process. In the present study, we investigated the mechanism of action underlying $PGE_2$-mediated cell proliferation and the effect of resveratrol on the proliferation of human colon cancer cells in terms of the modulating $PGE_2$-mediated signaling pathway. $PGE_2$ stimulated the proliferation of several human colon cancer cells and activated growth-stimulatory signal transduction, including Akt and ERK. $PGE_2$ also increased the phosphorylation of GSK-$3{\beta}$, the translocation of ${\beta}$-catenin into the nucleus, and the expressions of c-myc and cyclin D1. Resveratrol, a cancer chemopreventive phytochemical, however, inhibited $PGE_2$-induced growth stimulation and also suppressed $PGE_2$-mediated signal transduction, as well as ${\beta}$-catenin/T cell factor-mediated transcription in human colon cancer cells. These findings present an additional mechanism through which resveratrol affects the regulation of human colon cancer cell growth.

  • In this paper, a new robust adaptive algorithm is proposed to improve the performance of AEC without computational burden. The proposed adaptive algorithm is based on NLMS algorithm, and its step-size is varied with the reference input signal power and the desired signal power. Its step-size is normalized by the sum of the powers of the reference input signal and the desired signal. When the near-end speaker's speech and noise are applied into the microphone, the step-size becomes small and the misalignment of coefficients are reduced. The convergence speed is comparable to NLMS algorithm at AEC application because the echo signals are attenuated about 10∼20 dBSPL. The characteristics of this algorithm is also analyzed and compared with conventional ones in this paper.

  • This paper focuses on analyzing the effects of primary user (PU) signal arrival on the local spectrum sensing performance. The probability for signal arrival at a sample in the sensing time is uniformly distributed in the sensing time. We first analyze the main factor that causes the degradation in the detection results in the conventional energy detection (CED) under the uniformly random arrival of the PU-signal. Thus we propose an approach in order to enhance the detection performance, in which an estimator which detects the arrival of the PU signal cooperates with a composite energy detection. The mathematical analysis and numerical simulation has validated the outperformance of the proposed approach compared to the CED.

  • This paper presents the ASF(Additional Secondary Factor) modeling of DGPS beacon signal. In addition to DGPS's original purpose, the feasibility to utilize DGPS system for timing and navigation has been studied. For timing and navigation, the positioning system must know the accurate time delay of signal traveling from the transmitter to receiver. Then the delay can be used to compute the user position. The DGPS beacon signal transmits the data using medium frequency, which travels through the surface and cause the additional delay rather than the speed of light according to conductivities and elevations of the irregular terrain. We introduce the modeling of additional delay(ASF) and present the results of implementation. The similar approach is Locan-C. Loran-C has been widely used as the maritime location system and was enhanced to E-Loran(Enhanced Loran). E-Loran system uses the ASF estimation method and is able to provide the more precise location service. However there was rarely research on this area in Korea. Hence, we introduce the ASF and its estimation model. With the comparison of the same condition and data from the original Monteath model and ASF estimation data of Loran system respectively, we guarantee that the implementation is absolutely perfect. For further works, we're going to apply the ASF estimation model to Korean DGPS beacon system with the Korean terrain data.

  • For sensitivity enhancement, the general assisted-GPS acquisition method adopts not only the coherent accumulation technique but also the non-coherent accumulation technique since the long coherent accumulation period increases the number of frequency search cells. But the non-coherent accumulation technique causes tile squaring loss, which is a dominant factor among the acquisition losses of assisted GPS dealing with weak GPS signals. This paper derives the squaring loss of the previous assisted-GPS acquisition method and proposes an assisted-GPS acquisition method for solving the problem of squaring loss in weak signal environment. In this paper, it is explained that the proposed assisted-GPS acquisition method prevents the squaring loss using a coupled coherent accumulation technique and the number of search cells of the proposed assisted-GPS acquisition method is much smaller than that of the previous assisted-GPS acquisition method. Finally, through the simulation by the GPS simulator, the acquisition success rate of the proposed assisted-GPS acquisition method is compared with that of the previous assisted-GPS acquisition method and the acquisition improvements are shown in weak signal environment.

  • This paper proposes a study on the configuration of balancing of plant(BOP) and implementation of battery management system(BMS) functions for vanadium redox flow battery(VRFB) and propose a method consists of sensor and required design specifications BOP system configuration. And it proposes an method of the functions implementation and control algorithm of the BMS for flow battery. Functions of BMS include temperature control, the charge and discharge control, flow control, level control, state of charge(SOC) estimation and a battery protection through the sensor signal of BOP. Functions of BMS is implemented by the sensor signal, so it is recognized as a very important factor measurement accuracy of the data. Therefore, measuring a mechanical signal(flow rate, temperature, level) through the BOP test model, and the measuring an electrical signal(cell voltage, stack voltage and stack current) through the VRFB charge-discharge system and analyzes the precision of data in this paper. Also it shows a good charge-discharge test results by the SOC estimation algorithm of VRFB. Proposed BOP configuration and BMS functions implementation can be used as a reference indicator for VRFB system design.

  • In this paper, we propose a blind equalization algorithm based on the error signal linearly combined a constellation-matched error (CME) and a non-constellation-matched error (non-CME). The new error signal was designed to include the non-CME term for reaching initial convergence and the CME term for improving intersymbol interference (ISI) performance of output signals, and it controls the error terms through a combining factor. By controlling the error terms, it generates an appropriate error signal for equalization process and improves convergence speed and ISI cancellation performance compared to those of conventional algorithms. In the simulation for 64-QAM and 256-QAM signals under the multipath channel and additive noise conditions, the proposed method was superior to CMA and CMA+DD concurrent equalization.

  • In spatial modulation (SM), both the signal symbol and spatial symbol, i.e., the index of the antenna from which signal symbol is transmitted, carry information. To increase the number of bits carried by spatial symbols, more transmit antennas are required. In the generalized SM (GSM), the same signal symbol is transmitted from a combination of antennas, resulting in a reduction in the number of antennas required to achieve a given spectral efficiency. In this paper, we propose a rotated-symbol GSM (RGSM), in which the signal symbol is rotated with an angle corresponding to the position of the antenna index within the combination. This increases the number of spatial symbols by a factor equivalent to the length of the antenna combinations of the GSM. Numerically, SM, GSM and RGSM require 128, 17 and 12 transmit antennas to convey seven bits through the spatial symbols. Simulation results show that RGSM performs relatively close to GSM, and in several system settings, their error performances coincide.

  • Ocean reverberation is the most limiting factor in designing realistic and real-time system for sonar simulator. The simulation for an ocean reverberation requires a lot of computational loads, so it is hard to embed program and generate real-time signal in the sonar simulator. In this study, we simulate a time-domain bottom reverberation signal based on Harrison's energy-flux bottom reverberation model by applying Doppler effects as ship maneuvering and autoregressive model. Finally, the bottom reverberation signal with realistic characteristics could be generated for the simulation of ONR reverberation modeling workshop-I problem XI and East Sea ocean environments.
