Design and Fabrication of an Electromagnetic Flowmeter (전자기유량계의 설계 및 제작)

  • An electromagnetic flowmeter(EMF) was developed and its characteristics were compared with a commercial EMF. The developed EMF was designed as the 100 mm nominal diameter. A signal processing circuit was also developed for generating the magnetic field and converting the flow signal to flowrate and flow quantity. In order to obtain a more stable and reliable flow signal, the double magnetizing frequency was adopted for magnetizing the coil of the EMF. For the characterization of the developed EMF, the uncertainty of calibrator was estimated within $\pm$0.5 %. The evaluation procedure of the uncertainty followed the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. It was found that the flow signals between the electrodes were about $\pm$60-$\pm$300$\mu$V, which were sufficient for the discrimination of flowmeter and the protection of noise. The test results against the calibrator showed the good linearity in the range of 3 ㎥/h and 70 ㎥/h. A commercialized design of the EMF based on the current study will be technically more competitive in domestic and foreign market.

  • In the area of e-learning education, SCORM2004 that is suggested by ADL and is a defacto standard allows to design and apply various interrelations among learning objects which organize learning process through consolidating IMS Simple Sequencing into S&N. In this paper, we intend to realize a web_based adaptive learning management that enable to guide experientially the learning activity through the SCORM 2004 S&N and the Traffic-Signal-Lamp Metaphor. This adaptive system allows professor to design the learning courseware realizing various learning strategies to be able to reuse same learning contents and student to be leaded a adaptive learning through being supplied immediately the state and evaluation of learning.

  • In cognitive radio technology, the overall efficiency of communications systems can be improved without allocating additional bands by allowing a secondary system to utilize the licensed band when the primary system, which has the right to use the band, does not use it. In this paper, we propose a fast and reliable common channel initialization protocol without any exchange of initialization messages between the cluster head and the member nodes in cognitive ad-hoc networks. In the proposed method, the cluster and member nodes perform channel-based spectrum sensing. After sensing, the cluster head transmits a system activation signal through its available channels with a predetermined angle difference pattern. To detect the cluster head's transmission channels and to join the cluster, each member node implements fast Fourier transform (FFT) and computes autocorrelation for the angle difference sequence of the received signal patterns. This is compared to the predetermined reference angle difference pattern. The join-request and channel-decision procedures are presented in this paper. Performance evaluation of the proposed method is presented in the simulation results.

Numerical Analysis on the Signal Characteristics for Scattered Far-field of Ultrasonic SH-Wave by the Internal Cavity (재료내 기공결함에 의한 SH형 초음파 원거리 산란장의 신호특성에 대한 수치해석)

  • In this study, the scattered far-field due to a cavity embedded in infinite media subjected to the incident SH-wave was calculated by the boundary element method. The effects of cavity shape and distance between internal cavity and internal point in infinite media were considered. The scattered far-field of the frequency domain was transformed into the signal of the time domain by using the Inverse Fast Fourier Transform(IFFT). It was found that the amplitude of scattered signal in time domain decreased with the increase of the distance between the detecting points of ultrasonic scattered field and the center of internal cavity in media. In addition, the time delay was clearly found in time domain waveform as the distance between the detecting points of ultrasonic scattered field and the center of internal cavity was gradually increased.

  • In this paper, a wireless spectrum sensing receiver system is proposed. While a conventional Cognitive Radio(CR) system utilizes frequency down-conversion and demodulation to recognize wireless spectral signal, the proposed one is able to recover and sense valid signal at an RF front-end. It has been designed with a super-regeneration type circuit with a channel selectivity and variability for FDM applications with which a conventional single-channel super-regeneration circuit could not provide. From experimental evaluation, the implemented system has been optimized for channel allocation with quenching signal, and verified for 5 MHz-channel spacing.

Multi-mode Radar Signal Sorting by Means of Spatial Data Mining

  • For multi-mode radar signals in complex electromagnetic environment, different modes of one emitter tend to be deinterleaved into several emitters, called as "extension", when processing received signals by use of existing sorting methods. The "extension" problem inevitably deteriorates the sorting performance of multi-mode radar signals. In this paper, a novel method based on spatial data mining is presented to address above challenge. Based on theories of data field, we describe the distribution information of feature parameters using potential field, and makes partition clustering of parameter samples according to revealed distribution features. Additionally, an evaluation criterion based on cloud model membership is established to measure the relevance between different cluster-classes, which provides important spatial knowledge for the solution of the "extension" problem. It is shown through numerical simulations that the proposed method is effective on solving the "extension" problem in multi-mode radar signal sorting, and can achieve higher correct sorting rate.

  • This system is composed of fine and coarse apparatus, measurement system and control system. Piezoelectric actuator is designed for fine positioning. We make a study of precision apparatus that is used in the various industrial machine. The study was carried out to develope a precision positioning apparatus, consisting of servo motor and piezoelectric actuator. Coarse positioning using lead screw is drived by servo motor. Control system output a signal from laser interferometer to amplifier of servo motor and piezoelectric actuator after digital signal processing(DSP). Resolution of this apparatus measure with laser interferometer. In this study, design method and control system with ultra precision position apparatus are researched. As the first step, we have estimated for control performance and system stability before an actual apparatus is manufactured by MATLAB with SIMULINK including various functions those are composed of pre-design and system modeling.

  • This paper focuses on the formulation and validation of an automatic strategy for the selection of the locations and directions of strain gauges to capture at best the modal response of a blade in a series of modes. These locations and directions are selected to render the strain measurements as robust as possible with respect to random mispositioning of the gauges and gauge failures. The approach relies on the evaluation of the signal-to-noise ratios of the gauge measurements from finite element strain data and includes the effects of gauge size. A genetic algorithm is used to find the strain gauge locations-directions that lead to the largest possible value of the smallest modal strain signal-to-noise ratio, in the absence of gauge failure, or of its expected value when gauge failure is possible. A fan blade is used to exemplify the applicability of the proposed methodology and to demonstrate the effects of the essential parameters of the problem, i.e. the mispositioning level, the probability of gauge failure, and the number of gauges.

Performance of Interference Mitigation with Different Wavelets in Global Positioning Systems

  • In this paper, we apply a discrete wavelet packet transform (DWPT) to reduce the influence of interference in global positioning system (GPS) signals and compare the interference mitigation performance of various wavelets. By applying DWPT to the received signal, we can gradually divide the received signal band into low-pass and high-pass bands. After calculating the average power for the separate bands, we can determine whether there is interference by comparing the value with the given threshold. For a band that includes interference, we can reconstruct the whole band signal using inverse DWPT (IDWPT) after applying a nulling method that sets all of the wavelet coefficients to 0. The reconstructed signals are correlated with the pseudorandom noise (PRN) codes to acquire GPS signals. The performance evaluation is based on the number of satellite signals whose peak ratio (defined as the ratio of the first and second correlation peak values in the acquisition stage) exceeds the threshold. In this paper, we compare and evaluate the performance of 6 wavelets including Haar, Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets, Biorthogonal Splines, and Discrete Meyer.

Temporal Filter for Image Data Compression (영상 데이터 압축을 위한 Temporal Filter의 구성)

  • Unlike a noise removal recursive temporal filter, this paper presents a temporal filter which improves visual quality and data compression efficiency. In general, for the temporal band-limitation, temporal aliasing should be considered. Since most of a video signal has temporally aliased components, it is desirable to consider them. From a signal processing point of view, it is impossible to realize the filtering not afeced by the aliasings. However, in this paper, efficient filtering with de-aliasing characteristics is proposed. Considering the location of a video signal, temporal filtering can be accomplished by the spatial filtering along the motion vector trajectory (Motion Adaptive Spatial Filter). This filtered result dose not include the aliasings. Besides the efficient band-limitation, temporal noise is also reduced. For the evaluation of the MASF, its realization and filtering characteristics will be discussed in ditail.
