Design of Physical Layer and Performance Analysis for MX-S2X, Ship Centric Direct Communication with the Mitigation of Multi-path Fading on Sea Environment (해상 다중경로 페이딩 극복을 위한 선박중심 직접통신(MX-S2X) 물리계층 설계 및 성능 분석)

  • This paper presents the definition and importance of ship-centric direct communication concerning ship safety of maritime autonomous and unmanned ships. It also proposes the concept of MX-S2X communication based on high frequency for wide-bandwidth technology and describes the design and simulation result for the physical layer of MX-S2X. It considered high-speed communication as well as overcoming maritime multi-path fading required to be resolved in the marine environment. The physical layer of MX-S2X communication was designed to overcome the occurrence of error-floor caused by multi-path fading even with receiving sufficient signal strength. To this purpose, a performance analysis was conducted on the physical layer by applying the channel model of the actual maritime communication environment. As a result of the performance analysis of the MX-S2X physical layer, it was confirmed that the BER error-floor observed in the VDE physical layer test was overcome, and it operated within the SNR 2dB degradation range compared to the AWGN channel. It is expected that this will show enough performance suitable for short-distance ship-centered direct communication and can be used for direct communication of maritime autonomous ships, unmanned ships, and group navigation of themshortly.

  • In the research field of speech recognition, pinpointing the endpoints of speech utterance even with the presence of background noise is of great importance. These noise present during recording introduce disturbances which complicates matters since what we just want is to get the stationary parameters corresponding to each speech section. One major cause of error in automatic recognition of isolated words is the inaccurate detection of the beginning and end boundaries of the test and reference templates, thus the necessity to find an effective method in removing the unnecessary regions of a speech signal. The conventional methods for speech endpoint detection are based on two linear time-domain measurements: the short-time energy, and short-time zero-crossing rate. They perform well for clean speech but their precision is not guaranteed if there is noise present, since the high energy and zero-crossing rate of the noise is mistaken as a part of the speech uttered. This paper proposes a novel approach in finding an apparent threshold between noise and speech based on Lyapunov Exponents (LEs). This proposed method adopts the nonlinear features to analyze the chaos characteristics of the speech signal instead of depending on the unreliable factor-energy. The excellent performance of this approach compared with the conventional methods lies in the fact that it detects the endpoints as a nonlinearity of speech signal, which we believe is an important characteristic and has been neglected by the conventional methods. The proposed method extracts the features based only on the time-domain waveform of the speech signal illustrating its low complexity. Simulations done showed the effective performance of the Proposed method in a noisy environment with an average recognition rate of up 92.85% for unspecified person.

  • In the almost application parts, GNSS being used the primary navigation system on world-widely. However, some of nations attempt or deliberate to enhance current Loran system, as a backup to satellite navigation system because of the vulnerability to the disturbance signal. Loran interests in supplemental navigation system by the development and enhancement, which is called eLoran, and that consists of advancement of receiver and transmitter and of differential Loran in order to increase the accuracy of current Loran-C. A significant factor limiting the ranging accuracy of the eLoran signal is the ASF in the TOAs observed by the receiver. The ASF is mostly due to the fact that the ground-wave signal is likely to propagate over paths of varying conductivity and topography. This paper presents comparison results between the predicted ASF and the measured ASF in a southern east region of Korea. For predicting ASF, the Monteath model is used. Actual ASF is measured from the legacy Loran signal transmitted Pohang station in the GRI 9930 chain. The test results showed the repeatability of the measured ASF and the consistent characteristics between the predicted and the measured ASF values.

  • This paper describes the design of the circuit card assembly to eliminate the communication error on a servo control unit installed in the automated resupply vehicle K56. K56 is a weapon system that automates the supply and loading of ammunition on the K-55A1 self-propelled artillery. As the core item responsible for ammunition movement control, the servo control unit is required to have good communication stability and reliability, but the conventional unit has recognized a problem that communication error intermittently occurs, resulting in an emergency stop phenomenon. We analyzed the communication signal of the servo control unit and identified the failure cause of the circuit card assembly to solve this problem. In addition, the signal interference in data/address line of the circuit card assembly was confirmed through analysis of the failure cause, and redesigned to avoid the interference, such as adjustment of the distance between communication lines and position change. Finally, the proposed cause analysis and redesign were verified through the component of servo control unit and attachment test on K56. We expected these study results to be used as reference for the design of other similar items.

  • Purpose : Cyber-Knife tumor tracking system, based on the correlation relationship between the position of a tumor which moves in response to the real time respiratory cycle signal and respiration was obtained by the LED marker attached to the outside of the patient, the location of the tumor to predict in advance, the movement of the tumor in synchronization with the therapeutic device to track real-time tumor, is a system for treating. The purpose of this study, in the cyber knife tumor tracking radiation therapy, trying to evaluate the accuracy of tumor tracking radiation therapy system due to the change in the form of unpredictable sudden breathing due to cough and sleep. Materials and Methods : Breathing Log files that were used in the study, based on the Respiratory gating radiotherapy and Cyber-knife tracking radiosurgery breathing Log files of patients who received herein, measured using the Log files in the form of a Sinusoidal pattern and Sudden change pattern. it has been reconstituted as possible. Enter the reconstructed respiratory Log file cyber knife dynamic chest Phantom, so that it is possible to implement a motion due to respiration, add manufacturing the driving apparatus of the existing dynamic chest Phantom, Phantom the form of respiration we have developed a program that can be applied to. Movement of the phantom inside the target (Ball cube target) was driven by the displacement of three sizes of according to the size of the respiratory vertical (Superior-Inferior) direction to the 5 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm. If the correlation error can be defined by the length of the displacement vector in the target track is a sinusoidal breathing mode, the size of the target of the movement in response to 5 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm, respective average $0.84{\pm}0.01mm$, $0.70{\pm}0.13mm$, with $1.63{\pm}0.10mm$, if it is a variant of sudden breathing respective average $0.97{\pm}0.06mm$, $1.44{\pm}0.11mm$, and analyzed with $1.98{\pm}0.10mm$. The larger the correlation error values in both the both the respiratory form, the target error value is large. Patients under treatment is determined to be able to improve the treatment of accuracy to induce the observed form of regular breathing and put like to see the goggles monitor capable of the respiratory form of the person.

  • Unscented Kalman filter based backward filter is derived and the positions from extended Kalman filter, unscented Kalman filter, and extended Kalman smoother are compared and analyzed through a simulation test. Considering the poor GPS signal reception, the simulation is performed under the assumption of only the start and end points of the trajectory, composed of 4 curves and 5 straight sections in the area of $40m{\times}40m $, are known. The test shows that the smoothers generate much better positioning results of 8~9m improvement compared to those from the forward filters. For the comparison between the smoothers, the analysis is performed separately for the curves and straight segments. In both cases, the unscented Kalman smoother generates better positioning error; 10cm and 23cm improved positioning results in straight segment and curves, respectively.

  • A technique for improving estimation accuracy is introduced in order to locate the impact position of artillery shell during the weapon scoring test. Study on localization of impacts using acoustic measurement has been conducted and the usability of sensor array is verified with experiments. When the blast occurs above the ground in the firing range, the acoustic sensor above the ground can measure the directly propagated sound with the ground-reflected one. In this study, a method for reducing estimation error by using the reflection signal measurements based on the time difference of arrival method. Considering the reflection sound works as same as placing a virtual sensor symmetrically through the ground. This idea enables a virtual three-dimensional array configuration with a two-dimensional plane array above the ground as such. The time difference between the direct and the reflected propagations can be estimated using cepstrum analysis. Performance test has been made in the simulation experiment in the football size area.

  • In this study, an integrated GNSS Simulator called Inha GNSS Simulation System (IGSS) using 3D spatial information was developed and validated. Also positioning availability and accuracy improvement were evaluated under the integrated GNSS environment using IGSS. GPS and GLONASS satellite visibility predictions were compared with real observations, and their frequency of error were 6.4% and 7.5%, respectively. To evaluate positioning availability and accuracy improvement under the integrated GNSS environment, the Daejeon government complex area was selected to be the test site because the area has high-rise buildings and thus is susceptible to signal blockages. The test consists of three parts: the first is when only GPS was used; the second is when both GPS and GLONASS were simulated; and the last is when GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo were used all together. In each case, the number of visible satellites and Dilution Of Precision were calculated and compared.

  • The system design and the system performance analysis of 3D imaging laser radar system for the mapping purpose is addressed in this article. For the mapping, a push-bloom scanning method is utilized. The pulsed fiber laser with high pulse energy and high pulse repetition rate is used for the light source of laser radar system. The high sensitive linear mode InGaAs avalanche photo-diode is used for the laser receiver module. The time-of-flight of laser pulse from the laser to the receiver is calculated by using high speed FPGA based signal processing board. To reduce the walk error of laser pulse regardless of the intensity differences between pulses, the time of flight is measured from peak to peak of laser pulses. To get 3D image with a single pixel detector, Risley scanner which stirs the laser beam in an ellipsoidal pattern is used. The system laser energy budget characteristics is modeled using LADAR equation, from which the system performances such as the pulse detection probability, false alarm and etc. are analyzed and predicted. The test results of the system performances are acquired and compared with the predicted system performance. According to test results, all the system requirements are satisfied. The 3D image which was acquired by using the laser radar system is also presented in this article.

  • Radiation source imaging system is essential for protecting of radiation leakage accidents and minimizing damages from the radioactive materials, and is expected to play an important role in the nuclear plant decommissioning area. In this study, the stereoscopic camera principle was applied to develop a new radiation imaging device technology that can extract the radiation three-dimensional position information. This radiation three-dimensional imaging device (K3-RIS) was designed as a compact structure consisting of a radiation sensor, a CCD camera, and a pan-tilt only. It features the acquisition of stereoscopic radiation images by position change control, high-resolution detection by continuous scan mode control, and stereoscopic image signal processing. The performance analysis test of K3-RIS was conducted for a gamma-ray source(Cs-137) in radiation calibration facility. The test result showed that a performance error with less than 3% regardless of distances of the objects.
