Edge Enhanced Error Diffusion Based on Local Average of Original Image

  • The error diffusion is a good method to reconstruct the continuous tones of an image to the bilevel tones However the reconstruction of edge characteristic by the nor diffusion is represented work when power spectrum is analyzed fer display error. In this paper, we present an edge enhanced error diffusion method to preprocess original image to achieve the enhancement for the edge characteristic. The preprocessing algorithm consist of two processes. First the difference value between the current pixel and the local average of the surrounding pixel in original image is obtained. Second, the weighting function is composed by the magnitude and the sign of the local average. To confirm the effect of the proposed method, it is compared with the conventional edge enhanced error diffusion methods by measuring the radially averaged power spectrum densities (RAPSDs) for their display errors. The comparison result demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the conventional ones.

  • The Japanese 'H' motor company is the one of a few engine makers for F1 racing machine in the world. And it has a tradition and ability to make a humanoid walking robot 'Asimo'. But 'H' motor company is known as a motorcycle maker not a car in Korea. It wanted to reinforce the brand image and identity to Korean consumer. And it needed a powerful marketing tool for the brand image distinguished from other global motor companies. It demanded a stand design to show their powerful and unique identity for surpass other rivals in 2007 Seoul Motor Show. This stand for 'H' motor company in 2007 SMS has an area of 1,250m2 and located between huge domestic motor companies, K and SR. The design was planed to show its unique identity and image, overcoming its relatively small size. I designed a round-shape ceiling structures covered whole booth space for enclosure and vortical space sense. That made a strong brand image by light and sharp structures completely distinguished from other stands. And it has a main logo sign for recognizing the stand from a distance.

A Study on the Preprocessing Method Using Construction of Watershed for Character Image segmentation

  • Off-line handwritten character recognition is in difficulty of incomplete preprocessing because it has not dynamic and timing information besides has various handwriting, extreme overlap of the consonant and vowel and many error image of stroke. Consequently off-line handwritten character recognition needs to study about preprocessing of various methods such as binarization and thinning. This paper considers running time of watershed algorithm and the quality of resulting image as preprocessing For off-line handwritten Korean character recognition. So it proposes application of effective watershed algorithm for segmentation of character region and background region in gray level character image and segmentation function for binarization image and segmentation function for binarization by extracted watershed image. Besides it proposes thinning methods which effectively extracts skeleton through conditional test mask considering running time and quality. of skeleton, estimates efficiency of existing methods and this paper's methods as running time and quality. Watershed image conversion uses prewitt operator for gradient image conversion, extracts local minima considering 8-neighborhood pixel. And methods by using difference of mean value is used in region merging step, Converted watershed image by means of this methods separates effectively character region and background region applying to segmentation function. Average execution time on the previous method was 2.16 second and on this paper method was 1.72 second. We prove that this paper's method removed noise effectively with overlap stroke as compared with the previous method.

CGI(Computer-Generated Imagery)의 재현적 간극 소멸에서 보여지는 모사이론의 재평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Revaluation of copy theory in Representational Gaps Extinction of CGI)

  • 실제 대상으로부터 모사된 이미지에서 인간이 느끼는 환영의 존재에 대한 연구는 오랜 시간 동안 모사이론과 관습주의로 나뉘어 진행되어왔다. 플라톤(Plato) 이래로 오랫동안 재현(再現) 이론을 지배해온 전통적 모사 이론은 환영을 이미지와 재현 대상 간의 닮음 또는 유사성으로 설명해 왔다. 모사 이론에 따르면 이미지는 언어와 달리 대상과의 유사성에 의해 자연스럽게 인지되는 자연적 기호이다. 20세기 후반 들어 모사 이론을 비판하면서 등장한 굿먼(N. Goodman)으로 대표되는 관습주의는 이미지와 재현 대상 사이에는 어떠한 특별한 종류의 유사성도 없다고 주장한다. 그들은 회화적 기호의 관습적인 속성에 주목하면서 이미지가 언어와 마찬가지로 자의적인 코드의 중재를 통해 기능하는 관습적 기호라고 주장한다. 이러한 이론의 대립은 인지 과학의 등장과 함께 관습주의의 승리로 정리되었고, 모사이론은 원본과 복제물 간에 존재하는 '재현적 간극'의 문제에 명쾌하게 해답을 제시할 수 없었다. 그러나 사진 미디어를 시작으로 디지털 미디어가 등장하면서 '환영'에 대한 이론에 새로운 패러다임이 등장하게 되었다. 그 동안 문제가 되었던 '재현적 간극'이 디지털 미디어 기반의 CGI 이미지에서는 소멸되어버린 것이다. 현대를 살아가는 우리는 영화나 광고 혹은 인쇄매체를 통해 아주 쉽고 빈번하게 원본과 구분되지 않을 만큼 정교한 복제물에 노출되어있다. 때로는 원본보다 더욱 원본 같은 경우도 나타난다. 이러한 시대의 도래에는 대상의 모든 특성을 0과 1로 분절하여 '비물질화' 시키는 디지털이 자리 잡고 있다. 특히나 실제 빛의 기능과 메커니즘마저 완벽하게 Photon Mapping 이라는 기술로 매칭하여 모사함으로써 복제물은 더욱 원본처럼 생산되어지고 있다. 이렇게 원본과 복제본의 구분이 불가능해지면서 나타난 '재현적 간극'의 소멸은 디지털 미디어에 의해 투사되는 환영의 특성을 설명함에 있어 새로운 이론 모델의 필요성을 제시하게 되었고, 전통적 모사이론에 기반을 둔 새로운 해석이 그 답이 될 수 있음을 본 연구를 통해 가늠해보고자 한다.

스피노자: 언어의 힘과 공동체 (Community and Power of language for Spinoza)

  • 스피노자는 인간의 생각과 태도, 행위를 규정하고 이끌어내는 힘을 언어가 가지고 있다고 생각했다. 인간의 의식과 행동을 결정하는 힘이 언어에 있는 한, 인간 공동체에서 언어는 매우 중요한 것이다. 그런데 스피노자에게 이 언어의 의미는 고정적인 것이 아니라 역동적으로 변화하는 것으로서 드러난다. 스피노자에게 언어를 이루는 기호와 그 의미는 서로 다른 것이다. 한 사회에서 널리 통용되는 기호로서의 언어는 숙고되지 못한 신체적 이미지들에 기반하여 성립하기 쉬운 까닭에 자주 부적합한 관념으로서의 상상지를 수반한다. 그러나 그렇다고 해서 언어가 참된 관념을 표현하지 못하는 도구인 것은 아니다. 의미의 질서는 이미지들의 연쇄, 관념의 연쇄를 통해서만 결정된다. 의미는 항존적인 것이 아니라, 이미지와 관념의 질서를 바꿈으로써 바뀐다. 단어가 함축하는 이미지들과 관념들의 질서를 재배치하는 과정을 통해 언어는 참되고 적합한 관념을 표현할 수 있게 된다. 물론 참된 관념을 언어로 표현하는 것만으로는 부족하다. 인간의 관념과 행위를 결정하는 언어의 힘은 그것이 참된 것을 표현하느냐 아니냐에 따라 결정되는 것이 아니라, 어떤 의미의 질서가 보다 큰 헤게모니를 가지는가에 따라 결정되기 때문이다. 이런 의미에서 이 세계는 서로 다른 의미의 질서들이 충돌하고 힘겨루기를 하는 장으로 보아도 무방할 것이다. 이성의 질서를 표현하는 언어의 의미를 수용하는 이들이 많아지면 많아질수록, 언어를 통해 매개되어 연대한 이들의 힘이 이 세계를 보다 더 이성적이며 합리적인 방향으로 바꾸게 될 것임을 의미한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 모든 변화는 바로 언어의 질서를 바꾸는 일, 다시 말해 기존의 관념이 옳지 않다는 것을 밝히고 널리 알리는 일에서 시작되는 것임에 틀림없다. 이것이 바로 스피노자가 "신학 정치론"에서 "성서"의 허구적 측면을 언어 분석을 통해 폭로하고, 사상의 자유를 역설한 까닭이다.

퍼지분류기를 이용한 인간의 행동분류 (Behavior-classification of Human Using Fuzzy-classifier)

  • For human-robot interaction, a robot should recognize the meaning of human behavior. In the case of static behavior such as face expression and sign language, the information contained in a single image is sufficient to deliver the meaning to the robot. In the case of dynamic behavior such as gestures, however, the information of sequential images is required. This paper proposes behavior classification by using fuzzy classifier to deliver the meaning of dynamic behavior to the robot. The proposed method extracts feature points from input images by a skeleton model, generates a vector space from a differential image of the extracted feature points, and uses this information as the learning data for fuzzy classifier. Finally, we show the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed method through experiments.

  • In this study and design, I explore the visual communication design process related to wayfinding in Wonkwang University Hospital in Iksan City. The purpose for designing an integrated is to graphically communicate the complex information. I have designed a graphic information system combining graphic elements such as typography, color, image and text layout, and graphic image to present interpretive and communicative processes. As a result of designing, the wayfinding is s term used to describe the program of applying environmental graphics and or architectural sign systems. In other words, wayfinding is the art of helping people find their way by utilizing visual communications such as signs, directories, landmarks, edges, paths and so on. Wayfinding can also be explained as the ability to know where one is in space and how to find one's way through space. Wayfinding design then becomes a systematic arrangement of the variables that allows patients and visitors to successfully find their desired destinations, especially in a hospital.

최근 30년간의 패션 트렌드와 패션 컬러의 추이 (Transition of Fashion Trends and Fashion Colors in Recent 30 Years)

  • Color is infinitely more complex and challenging when the human element is factored in. The nature of fashion presents additional issues that must be addressed, allowing for even greater possibilities. Fashion trends and fashion colors could be used as a starting point for investigating many possible applications in fashion industry. Modern fashion industry received various information from many medias. Fashion trends and fashion colors must be referred to primarily when planning fashion goods among so much information. In this study, changes in fashion trends and fashion colors from 1966 to 1995 were investigated. The results indicated fashion trends and fashion colors were involved with community, culture and economy. Furthermore, important characteristics of fashion trends were summarized. In recent 30 years fashion trends and fashion colors appeared practical fashion and natural color, amenity fashion and mild color. According to the fashion changes in sensitivity, the color change was evaluated. Fashion colors displayed changes from sign effect to symbol effect. Especially black changed from minus image to plus image made it important fashion color.

The Iconography of Femininity in Pre-Raphaelite Painting

  • The Pre-Raphaelite oeuvre abounds in the image of women, which indicates the impact of gender question on contemporary visual culture. The representation of women in their art tends to evince the entrenched myth of womanhood, marked by a stereotyped dichotomy in the apprehension of femininity. Yet there are a significant number of pictures which attest to the point that their iconography of womanhood cannot be fully elucidated by exploring the dichotomy alone. They falsify the dyadic model, defying the attempt to accommodate them in a clean-cut category. The curious blend of the mystical, the sensual, and the domestic that characterizes these images suggests that they are open to multiple interpretations. In sum, the Pre-Raphaelite representation of women both endorses and challenges the ideal of femininity, indicating that it was shaped by and shaped contemporary perceptions of women at a time when gender relations were shifting and the traditional institution of patriarchy revealed a sign of strain.

현대(現代)패션에 나타난 기호(記號)의 의미(意味) 분석(分析) - 1990년(年) 이후(以後)의 패션 컬렉션을 중심(中心)으로 - (A Study on the Meanings of Signs represented in Contemporary Fashion - Focusing on Fashion Collections since 1990 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the meanings of signs represented in contemporary fashion based on the Peirce's trisection theory in order to present various types of sign representation that satisfies aesthetic value and characteristics of the age of information and image. Types of signs represented in contemporary fashion can be summarized into letters, numbers, codes, pictures, logos, characters and emblems. The meanings of signs were analyzed based on the Peirce's trisection theory, resulting in representation of play, brandsymbol, eroticism and suggestion. The play was categorized into infantile and parodic. The former inspires unexpected interest and laughter from contemporary people in the age of disorder through humorous characters, cartoons and illustrations. The latter inspires laughter by parodying things and it's intention is to release the isolation of people and their relative poverty through pictures for which techniques of parody and surrealism were used. Most of the brandsymbols represented by logos, used for textile and clothing design as well as accessories are optimal signs that construct brand images. Eroticism means emotion, impulses, senses of value and sexual attraction. A desire to represent sexual attraction is an expression of eroticism and self-expression to adjust in a changing society. Suggestion tends to pursue the image of harmony with nature in a world which is pressed by material civilization. Humans represent illuminating messages through direct slogans by characters, natural objects and motives of social phenomenon in pursuit of the benefits of abundant material civilization in the structure of a highly advanced scientific civilization and industrial society.
