  • Asian countries have been striving for economic integration for decades. This effort may lead to the convergence of income level through externalities across countries. This paper investigates whether the convergence phenomenon holds for income levels in Asian countries for the periods between 1975-2015 applying the traditional methodology of ${\sigma}-$ and ${\beta}-convergence$. Although the absolute ${\beta}-convergence$ of income levels in Asian and ASEAN+3 countries do hold, ${\sigma}-convergence$ and conditional ${\beta}-convergence$ of income level generally do not exist. This suggests that the benefits of economic integration in Asian countries were not yet realized to be significant. A plausible explanation is that the economies of Asian countries are largely based on low trade openness and a high level of informal economy.

  • A COQ model plays an important role in the total quality cost survey. Based on the methodology of continuous quality improvement, a dynamic COQ model for different quality level is developed in this paper. A quality level is defined by Six Sigma level that can be measured by two indicators. The relationships among the four major quality costs are analyzed. Finally, the curves of total quality costs for different quality level are presented.

  • Six Sigma has been disseminated into a variety of areas. It is believed that a stepwise understanding of Six Sigma's DMAIC is required for successes of unit projects. Meanwhile, infra-structure factors, such as leadership, organization, personnel management, educational system, etc., are also important to safely implant the Six Sigma into the whole enterprise and to thoroughly create the culture of innovation and enterprise. Careful analysis of those elements makes it possible to draw common connection between Project Management and the Six Sigma. This study drives the success elements for the successful adoption of the Six Sigma in the Korea Western Power Co., Ltd., of which management was evaluated as one of the tops based on the results of 2007 Management Innovation Assessment and arranges the similarity of like this factor and Enterprise Project Management. The results of this study are expected to provide a useful guideline for the adoption of the Six Sigma in whole company level.

  • The statistical approach to quality control aims at alerting its user to any variations in the properties of a manufactured product. Motorola developed and pursued a quality management program called six sigma. The goal of six sigma programs is to improve customer satisfaction through reducing and eliminating defects. six sigma uses several statistical measure to characterize defect levels and process capabilities. The upper and lower specification limits are $\pm6\sigma$(sigma) from nominal, and the process mean is centered at nominal. only 0.002PPM are outside specification limits. Cp=2. this is the design target in a six sigma program. This article presents an important tool available for quality control of a production process at the occurrence of defects in manufactured products at view low levels to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing productivity and to satisfy customer through the reduction of defect rates. To understand the consequences of the level of quality on competitive position, a more technical perspective is needed.

  • The problem of brake judder is typically caused by defects of quality manufacturing. DFSS (Design for six sigma) is a design process for quality improvement. DFSS will result in more improved but less expensive quality products. This paper presents an implementation of DFSS for quality improvement of the brake judder of heavy-duty trucks. Carrying out 5 steps of DFSS, the major reasons for defects of quality are found. The numerical approximation of the brake system is derived by means of the response surface method. Its quality for brake judder is improved by using the sigma based robust design methodology. Results are compared between the conventional deterministic optimal design and the proposed sigma based robust design. The proposed one shows that manufacturing cost may increase as the quality level increase. The proposed one, however, is more economical in aspect of the overall cost since the probability of failure dramatically goes down.

  • 6 Sigma movement is the quality innovation activity which Motorola, a nineteen eighties' top-ranking American company of electronics and communication, has started to survive the Japanese companies' frightening gami-gaze. In early days, it's just applicated for reducing customers' complain by eliminations inferior goods centering round producing activity and filling up the competitive market's demand for price and delivery deadline. Nowaday, 6 Sigma application has created a boom extending to a company's most activity fields without any exact scrutiny of 6 Sigma. Although 6 Sigma movement starts from the question of what customers want not by cutting off the inferiority rate but by cutting out causes of producing inferior goods, the service industry has a special character that makes it difficult to compute the level of Sigma. Thus this research examines suitability for introduction of 6 Sigma to the Service Industry.

  • The importance of service industry in national economy is getting increasing due to current trend of aging society and increasingly desire for better quality of life. However, the level of labor productivity in domestic service industry is lower than Japan and Germany that are typically strong in manufacturing industry. Difficulty of process control and measurement in accordance with variability and intangibility which are features of service industry, is considered as the cause of this poor labor productivity in Korea. This study aims to present managerial implications by calculating sigma levels on branch bank service quality and suggesting the quality dimensions of banks can be checked through a gap comparison between the sigma level on service quality in the whole banks and service quality in each bank. Quality level presented by the KS-SQI is applied to the measurement method that Yoo Han Joo and Song Kwang Seok suggested in 2006. Spss18.0 is used as an analysis tool. As a result of factorial analysis, 7 dimensions of service quality in KS-SQI can be divided into new 3 dimensions of service quality. This study also suggests that width and number of questions in previous questionnaire shall be extended. The whole of the bank service quality level is evaluated 3 sigma. The research help banks to figure out their service quality level through gap comparison objectively.

  • Laboratory experiments were conducted in order to find effects of the intermediate principal stress of ${\sigma}_{2}$ on rock fractures and faults. Polyaxial tests were carried out under the most generalized compressive stress conditions, in which different magnitudes of the least and intermediate principal stresses ${\sigma}_{3}$ and ${\sigma}_{2}$ were maintained constant, and the maximum stress ${\sigma}_{1}$, was increased to failure. Two crystalline rocks (Westerly granite and KTB amphibolite) exhibited similar mechanical behavior, much of which is neglected in conventional triaxial compression tests in which ${\sigma}_{2}$ = ${\sigma}_{3}$. Compressive rock failure took the form of a main shear fracture, or fault, steeply dipping in ${\sigma}_{3}$ direction with its strike aligned with ${\sigma}_{2}$ direction. Rock strength rose significantly with the magnitude of ${\sigma}_{2}$, suggesting that the commonly used Mohr-type failure criteria, which ignore the ${\sigma}_{2}$ effect, predict only the lower limit of rock strength for a given ${\sigma}_{3}$ level. The true triaxial failure criterion for each of the crystalline rocks can be expressed as the octahedral shear stress at failure as a function of the mean normal stress acting on the fault plane. It is found that the onset of dilatancy increases considerably for higher ${\sigma}_{2}$. Thus, ${\sigma}_{2}$ extends the elastic range for a given ${\sigma}_{3}$ and, hence, retards the onset of the failure process. SEM inspection of the micromechanics leading to specimen failure showed a multitude of stress-induced microcracks localized on both sides of the through-going fault. Microcracks gradually align themselves with the ${\sigma}_{1}$-${\sigma}_{2}$ plane as the magnitude of ${\sigma}_{2}$ is raised.

  • Six Sigma emphasizes KPI and establishes the present level as well as the goal level through statistical calculation and tries to achieve management innovation through process improvement. But in the area of new product development or service, sufficient data for statistical measurement may not be secured. On the other side, looking for contradictions through problem analysis, TRIZ is a methodology that stresses the process of solving these problems. TRIZ also has its own problems: it is hard to define its initial task, to objectify the measurement of effect, and to optimize the drawn out idea. The purpose of this report is to give a comprehensive understanding about each methodology (Sigma Six and TRIZ) through its analysis, to confirm the need of linking both methodologies, and to suggest a model for this linking process. Also, they will be verified through examples, and the synergy effect will be discussed.
