  • This study intends to build a traffic accident predictive model considering road geometrics, traffic and enviromental characteristics and identify the relationship of 4-legs intersection accidents in Seoul and Busan metropolitan area. The RPNB(Random Parameter Negative Binomial) model shows improvement over the fixed NB(Negative Binomial) and out of 53 variables, 10 variables (main road number of lane, main road vehicle traffic volume(left), minor road vehicle traffic volume(right), main road drive restriction, minor road sight distance, minor road median strip, minor road speed limit, minor road speed restriction) showed to have significant variables affecting traffic accident occurrences in 4-legs signilized intersections. Also, among 10 significant variables, 2 variables(minor road sight distance, minor road speed restriction) found to be random parameters.

  • The chirp signaling has been mainly used in radar systems due to its good correlation characteristics, and nowadays it is applied to real time locating system(RTLS). The RTLS with chirp signaling was chosen as a standard such as ISO/IEC 24730-5 and IEEE 802.15.4a. In this paper, the performance of a real time locating system with chirp signaling was evaluated and simulated with relative distance error rates. We considered three cases of S/I = -30[dB], -20[dB], and -10[dB] with Rician factor K=10 and K=20. The performance was enhanced with K factor improvement by 25%, 27% and 50% for respective three cases of S/I. As results, in case of S/I < -20[dB], the minimum signal power is required for performance improvement even though the line of sight component is helpful. And also, in case of S/I ${\geq}$ -20[dB], as the line of sight component is stronger the better performance is obtained.

  • The purpose of this paper is to classify the traffic condition in freeway by the impacts of road weather. The factor analysis showed that weather factors, which are considered as influential, are identified as weather condition (rain or clear), temperature and sight distance with RWIS and VDS data in Seohae bridge used. The result of ANOVA shows that weather is dividedinto clear and rainy; temperature into below and equal or above $5^{\circ}C$ and sight distance into below or equal or above 10km. Based on those factors, the freeway traffic condition has been classified as five different types. The flow-speed model for each traffic conditions was proposed, which was not significant due to the lack of smaple data. Although not sufficient, the methodology to categorize traffic situation model presented in this paper may shed light on the idea for the future and can be used for proper traffic management for each weather condition.

  • The precise leveling is one of the important means of investigating fluctuation of earth's crust and foreknowing earthquake. This paper aims to study refraction errors developed in the inclined leveling route. Based on Kukkamaki's theory and data of weather, the author devised an experiment to test how Kukkimaki's corrections improved the discrepancy between fore and back sight leveling in actual slope. Additionally, through the repeated observation between fore and back sight leveling at one fixed station in the slope(2/100-4/100) and the experimental tests of continuous inclined leveling route, the author studied the effects and charcteristics of refraction. Especially, in inclined leveling(2/100-4/100), the distance of line of sight is ideally to be 25-30 m to minimize refraction errors. From the results of experimental tests of continuous inclined leveling route, the values of calculation by Kukkimaki's corrections were found to be nearly in accord with the values of observation.

  • Due to the development of drones, drone missions are performed in various fields, and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line Of Sight) flight is performed in a wide area. Most drones operate through radio frequency (RF) communication and can only fly in a limited radius of about 1-2 km. To overcome this, in this paper, we propose a multi-communication protocol-based drone control system to control drones performing missions in BVLOS using RF and LTE (Long Term Evolution). The proposed system consists of a control unit and a drone unit. The control unit transmits one control signal generated from the remote controller through RF and LTE. The drone unit classifies the control signal transmitted through RF and LTE according to the priority of the communication protocol and delivers it to the FC (Flight Controller). Through the proposed control system, it is possible to overcome the RF communication distance limit and prevent the communication disconnection situation.

  • The radio propagation characteristics of the 6, 10, and 17 GHz frequency bands in multiple paths in an indoor lobby environment were analyzed. The line-of-sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) paths were measured from a distance of 2-16 m (0.5 m intervals) from the transmitting to the receiving antenna positions. For basic transmission losses, three parameters were compared using the floating intercept path loss model corresponding to the path. For a root mean square delay spread, the measurement results were compared for cumulative probabilities of 10, 50, and 90%. Propagation loss and propagation delay occurred in all measured frequencies owing to the existence of pillars and an unusual lobby structure. Thus, a measurement scenario for an indoor lobby environment and the provision of standard measurement data was proposed. The results may facilitate research on the radio propagation characteristics of 5G and millimeter-wave bands in indoor lobby environments with various structures.

  • In sensor network, the elimination of NLOS information is a necessity to improve the accuracy of the localization. For this reason, we proposed an algorithm iteratively eliminating the NLOS information to enhance the accuracy of the localization of a tag location, and simulated the proposed algorithm to confirm the performance. The proposed algorithm can estimate the location of the error distance within 3.5m when it has 10 LOS coordinates with LOS information. In addition, it can enhance the accuracy according to decreasing NLOS coordinates.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for optimal selection of communications for smart lighting in heterogeneous networks. The smart lighting can be used for information communications and lighting simultaneously. To improve BER performance of smart lighting in heterogeneous networks, it adaptively selects a communication method among OCC, Wi-Fi, BLE based on distance between sensors and smart lightings, low power consumption for user requirements, operating time of smart lighting in Line-of-Sight(LOS)/Non-LOS channels. Thus, simulation results demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed algorithm contrary to baseline methods in LOS/NLOS channels.

  • This paper proposes a vision-based kinematic control method for mobile robots with camera-on-board. In the previous literature on the control of mobile robots using camera vision information, the forward velocity is set to be a constant, and only the rotational velocity of the robot is controlled. More efficient motion, however, is needed by controlling the forward velocity, depending on the position in the corridor. Thus, both forward and rotational velocities are controlled in the proposed method such that the mobile robots can move faster when the comer of the corridor is far away, and it slows down as it approaches the dead end of the corridor. In this way, the smooth turning motion along the corridor is possible. To this end, visual information using the camera is used to obtain the perspective lines and the distance from the current robot position to the dead end. Then, the vanishing point and the pseudo desired position are obtained, and the forward and rotational velocities are controlled by the LOS(Line Of Sight) guidance law. Both numerical and experimental results are included to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.

  • The purpose of a localization system is to estimate the coordinates of the geographic location of a mobile device. The accuracy of wireless localization is influenced by nonline-of-sight (NLOS) errors in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we present an improved time of arrival (TOA)-based localization method for wireless sensor networks. TOA-based localization estimates the geographic location of a mobile device using the distances between a mobile station (MS) and three or more base stations (BSs). However, each of the NLOS errors along a distance measured from an MS (device) to a BS (device) is different because of dissimilar obstacles in the direct signal path between the two devices. To accurately estimate the geographic location of a mobile device in TOA-based localization, we propose an optimized localization method with a BS selection scheme that selects three measured distances that contain a relatively small number of NLOS errors, in this paper. Performance evaluations are presented, and the experimental results are validated through comparisons of various localization methods with the proposed method.
