  • We present the characteristics and the performance of the new CCD camera system, SNUCAM-II (Seoul National University CAMera system II) that was installed on the Lee Sang Gak Telescope (LSGT) at the Siding Spring Observatory Australia in 2016. SNUCAM-II consists of a deep depletion chip covering a wide wavelength from $0.3{\mu}m$ to $1.1{\mu}m$ with high sensitivity (QE at 90%). It is equipped with SDSS ugriz filters and 13 medium band width (50nm) filters. On LSGT, SNUCAM-II covers $15.7{\times}15.7arcmin$ FOV at pixel scale of 0.92 arcsec and a limiting magnitude of g = 19.91 AB mag at $5{\sigma}$ with 180s exposure time. SNUCAM-II will enable us to study Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) of diverse objects from extragalactic sources to solar objects in the southern hemisphere for research and education activities.

  • We report the operational highlights of KMTNet in the point of observing rate, image pre-processing and data reduction, observing run for each science program, and scientific publications performed in 2016. Major system upgrade has been conducted in the CCD camera and the wide field telescope optics: the post amp and readout electronics of the 18k Mosaic CCD camera at Siding Spring Observatory site has been fine tuned and the protected silver coat of the primary mirror has been replaced with the bare aluminium coat due to the degradation of reflectivity of the primary mirror surface. A plan of KMTNet observation system improvement for 2017 will be introduced in this talk.

  • Recent analysis on asteroidal thermophysical property revealed that there is a tendency that their thermal inertia decrease with their sizes at least for main belt asteroids. However, little is known about the thermal properties of comet-like bodies. In this work we utilized a simple thermophysical model to calculate the thermal inertia of a bare nucleus of comet P/2006 HR30 (Siding Spring) and an asteroid in comet-like orbit 4015 Wilson-Harrington from AKARI observation data. It is also shown that the determination of their thermal inertia is very sensitive to their spin vector, while the diameter is rather easy to be constrained to a certain range by combining multi-wavelength observational data. Thus, we set diameter and hence the geometric albedo as fixed parameters, and inferred the spin vector and thermal inertia of the targets. Further detailed analyses on these cometary bodies will shed light on our understanding of the detailed surfacial characteristics of them.

  • The operation of express train on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Network is centered on the Kyungbu and Kyungin lines and the short section between Dongducheon station and Ganyung station which is 20.7km long. It is true that the needs of many customers who want to reduce their commuting hours by express train is not satisfied. This paper proposes that the operation of express trains be enlarged to Sungbuk station on Kyungwon line which comes to 34.9 km long, and to Yangsu station from Youngsan station on Jungang line. The type of operation is mixed one with high and low speed trains, which operates express train by use of existing siding tracks without improving facilities such as extra building of sidings. This pragmatic study is to apply the goal of reducing running time as express train and to suggest the selection of appropriate stops, effectivenes analysis of express train operation and formation of train diagrams to actual operation.

  • In this study, we aim to identify low-mass members of nearby, young stellar moving groups (NYMGs) from Gaia EDR3. The spatio-kinematic membership probabilities of the NYMGs were calculated utilizing the Bayesian membership probability calculation tool developed in our previous study. The youth of these spatio-kinematic members were assessed using positions on color-magnitude diagrams. We identified ~2200 new low-mass NYMG candidate members, that can be confirmed by follow-up spectroscopic observations. We performed pilot spectroscopic observation with WiFeS at Siding Spring Observatory observing 79 candidates, and about 80 per cent of them were confirmed as members.

  • We present light curves of a short period binary system BL Eridani. The light curves were observed with VRI filters by a 50cm wide field robotic telescope at Siding Spring Observatory (SSO), equipped with a 2K CCD camera, which was developed by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), and Yonsei University Observatory(YUO). The photometric observations were made on 6 nights by automatic operation mode and remote observation mode at SSO and KASI in Korea, respectively. We obtained new VRI CCD light curves and new 5 times of minima, and analyzed the light corves with the Wilson & Deviney (1971) binary 2005 version and derived the new photometric solutions. The mass ratio q=0.48 in this study shows different value with earlier investigators. According to the model analysis, it is considered that the BL Eri system is currently undergoing contact stage of the two binary components, rather than near-contact stage.

  • In case of a single input single output (SISO) system with a nonlinear term, a signal compression method is useful to identify a system because the equivalent impulse response of linear part from the system can be extracted by the method. However even though the signal compression method is useful to estimate uncertain parameters of the system, the method cannot be directly applied to a unique system with hysteresis characteristics because it cannot estimate all of the two different dynamic properties according to its motion direction. This paper proposes a signal compression method with a pre-processor to identify a unique system with two different dynamics according to its motion direction. The pre-processor plays a role of separating expansion and retraction properties from the system with hysteresis characteristics. For evaluating performance of the proposed approach, a simulation to estimate the assumed unknown parameters for an arbitrary known model is carried out. A motion platform with several single-rod cylinders is a representative unique system with two different dynamics, because each single-rod cylinder has expansion and retraction dynamic properties according to its motion direction. The nominal constant parameters of the motion platform are experimentally identified by using the proposed method. As its application, the identified parameters are applied to a design of a sliding mode controller for the simulator.

  • In this talk, we introduce the Lee Sang Gak Telescope (LSGT), a 0.43m telescope that can be operated remotely. This telescope was installed at the Siding Spring Observatory in 2015 October, and since then, it has been operated through a robotic reservation system, remotely from Korea. This telescope is now being used for educational and research activities of SNU Astronomy program. By placing the telescope at a place with an excellent astro-climate in Australia, the observation class activity can include objects in the southern hemisphere to the magnitude limit of V=20 mag at an exposure time of a few minutes. For example, Cepheid stars in Magellanic clouds can be observed during a class activity for constructing the classical Cepheid light curves that has been a key distance measure technique. Research activities such as transient observation and monitoring observation of AGN are possible, and we are currently running a high cadence supernovae search program by monitoring nearby galaxies intensively (see a presentation by C. Choi). The installation of the telescope was made possible from a support from the Seoul.
