  • This paper presents a design of the directional radiation pattern by using the structural-acoustic interaction. For this purpose, prediction of the pressure distribution of the field points and radiation pattern of the structural-acoustic coupling system is shown. In order to get a strong coupling, coupled system that has a finite space and a semi-infinite space separated by two flexible walls and an opening is selected. A volume interaction can be occurred in structure boundary and a pressure interaction can be happened in the opening boundary. The coupled system is maximized the radiation power on the main axis and minimized the side lobe level.

  • Digital signal processing technique use to variety fields including communication. For these signal processing, FIR digital filter is representative. And for FIR digital filter designing, the window function is used to reduce the Gibbs phenomenon which occurs in the coefficient cutting process of the ideal filter. Therefore, in this paper to improve performance of digital filter, a high-order window function was applied. In this simulation, we compared a peak side-lobe and a transient characteristics with the existing window function.

  • Only four species of leuconids have been recorded in Korea, all belonging to the genera Eudorella Norman, 1867 and Nippoleucon Watling, 1991. In this study, Pseudoleucon japonicus Gamô, 1964 belonging to family Leuconidae Sars, 1878 is newly recorded for Korean cumacean fauna. Also, for the first time, the male of the species is fully described and illustrated. The specimens were collected from the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the western sea (Yellow Sea) of Korea, with a rectangular dredge during 2007-2008. This species is characterized by the following features: the carapace has strong serrations on the antero-lateral margin and a pair of short oblique ridges on the side surface; the ridges begin near the end of frontal lobe and merge with the dorsal median carina; the appendages, such as antenna 1, pereopod 2 and uropod have a lot of simple setae decorated with a bundle of hairs at the end. The present study represents the first record on the genus Pseudoleucon Zimmer, 1903 from Korea.

  • An 11-year-old, intact female, Miniature Poodle presented with an abdominal mass. The abdominal mass was located around the right fifth mammary gland. The surgically removed mammary mass was subjected to histopathological examination. Based on the microscopic interpretation, a final diagnosis of an intermediate grade infiltrative mammary comedocarcinoma was established. Computed tomography for metastasis evaluation after surgical resection of the tumor showed enlarged right medial iliac and right inguinal lymph nodes, and a micronodule in the accessory lung lobe, suggesting metastasis of the mammary gland tumor. Doxorubicin, a chemotherapeutic drug, was administered six times at three week intervals. However, despite chemotherapy, the masses around the fourth and fifth mammary gland on the right side enlarged in size, and the treatment was discontinued at the request of the owner. The anticancer response to mammary comedocarcinoma is poor and the patient is in hospice management. This is the first attempt to treat a case of canine mammary comedocarcinoma in South Korea.

  • Purpose: The usefulness of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) images in diagnosis, staging, recurrent and treatment response evaluation has already been known. However, tumors which are small size, located in lower lobe of lung or upper lobe of liver are shown misalignment, distortion and different Standard Uptake Value (SUV) by respiration in PET images. Therefore, if radiotherapy based on normal respiration, it may cause low treatment response or more side effects because targets which had to treat, out of treat range or over dose to normal tissue. The purpose of this study is to evaluate attenuation-correction with Average CT (ACT) for more accuracy SUV measurement and minimize artifact by respiration. Materials and Methods: 13 patients, who had tumors which are around the diaphragm, underwent ACT scan after Helical CT (HCT) scan with PET/CT (Discovery DSTE 8; GE Healthcare). We quantified the differences between attenuation corrected image with HCT and attenuation corrected image with ACT in artifact size and maximum SUV ($SUV_{max}$). Artifacts were evaluated by measurement of the curved photogenic area in the lower thorax of the PET images for all patients. $SUV_{max}$ was measured separately at the primary tumors. Analysis program was Advantage Workstation v4.3 (GE Healthcare). Patients were injected with 7.4 MBq (0.2 $mC_i$) per kg of $^{18}F$-FDG and scanned 1 hour after injection. The PET acquisition was 3 minute per bed. Results: Significantly lower artifact were observed in PET/ACT images than in PET/HCT images (below-thoracic artifacts caused by under corrected $1.5{\pm}3.5$ cm vs. $13.4{\pm}4.2$ cm). Significantly higher $SUV_{max}$ were noted in PET/ACT images than in PET/HCT images in the primary tumor. Compared with PET/HCT images, $SUV_{max}$ in PET/ACT images were higher by $5.3{\pm}3.9%$ (mean value) tumor. The highest difference was observed in Lower lobe of lung (7.7 to 8.7; 13%). Conclusion: Due to its significantly reduced artifacts in lower thoracic, attenuation corrected image with ACT images provided more reliable $SUV_{max}$ and may be helpful in monitoring treatment response. Moreover, ACT can separate upper lobe of liver and lower lobe of lung, it may be helpful in interpretation. ACT will be clinically useful, considering increased dose caused by ACT scan and adapt.

  • Five cases of traumatic diaphragmatic hernia were repaired in the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, during the period from 1967 to 1974. The first case, a 14-year aid girl, was diagnosed as diaphragmatic hernia during laparotomy because of jejunal perforation 3 days after traffic accident. Herniated stomach, transverse colon, spleen and left lobe of the liver were repositioned and the diaphragmatic rupture on left posterolateral portion was repaired with two layers of nonabsorbable sutures by transthoracic approach. The second case, a 26-year old man,was diagnosed immediately after traffic accident at a local clinic and transferred to this hospital 24 hours later. Herniated stomach, transverse colon and jejunum were repositioned amd diaphragmatic rupture, about 9 cm in length, from the posterolat.edge to the base of pericardium was sutured in two layers. The third case, a 26-year old man who had stab wound on the left lower lateral chest two years ago,was admitted with sudden abdominal pain and vomiting. Upper gastrointestinal series with barium meal revealed diaphragmatic hernia. The herniated stomach and transverse colon through the defect, about 3.5cm in diameter, at anterolateral portion on the left side, were repositioned and repaired with two layers of nonabsorbable sutures. The forth case, a 26-year old man, sustained blunt trauma to the chest by a roller and was transferred to the emergency room complaining of dyspnea 40 minutes after the accident. The diaphragmatic rupture extended from left midaxillary line to contralateral anterior axillary line, about 20cm long, at anterior portion of diaphragm, which was repaired with two layers, of nonabsorbable sutures. The fifth case, a 4-year old girl, had two separate diaphragmatic ruptures on both sides, which were caused by traffic accident. Immediate upper gastrointestinal series after injury showed herniated stomach, colon and spleen into left Chest cavity. Another small rupture with anterior edge of right lobe of the liver in chest cavity was noted. These were repaired with non-absorbable sutures via thoracotomy.

  • Purpose: Among RF pulses, a sinc pulse is typically used for slice selection due to its frequency-selective feature. When a sinc pulse is implemented in practice, it needs to be apodized to avoid truncation artifacts at the expense of broadening the transition region of the excited-band profile. Here a sinc pulse tailored by a new apodization function is proposed that produces a sharper transition region with well suppression of truncation artifacts in comparison with conventional tailored sinc pulses. A multiband pulse designed using this newly apodized sinc pulse is also suggested inheriting the better performance of the newly apodized sinc pulse. Materials and Methods: A new apodization function is introduced to taper a sinc pulse, playing a role to slightly shift the first zero-crossing of a tailored sinc pulse from the peak of the main lobe and thereby producing a narrower bandwidth as well as a sharper pass-band in the excitation profile. The newly apodized sinc pulse was also utilized to design a multiband pulse which inherits the performance of its constituent. Performances of the proposed sinc pulse and the multiband pulse generated with it were demonstrated by Bloch simulation and phantom imaging. Results: In both simulations and experiments, the newly apodized sinc pulse yielded a narrower bandwidth and a sharper transition of the pass-band profile with a desirable degree of side-lobe suppression than the commonly used Hanning-windowed sinc pulse. The multiband pulse designed using the newly apodized sinc pulse also showed the better performance in multi-slice excitation than the one designed with the Hanning-windowed sinc pulse. Conclusion: The new tailored sinc pulse proposed here provides a better performance in slice (or slab) selection than conventional tailored sinc pulses. Thanks to the availability of analytical expression, it can also be utilized for multiband pulse design with great flexibility and readiness in implementation, transferring its better performance.

  • In this paper, we implemented a real-time 2.4 GHz direction finding system using a time-modulated array(TMA) and an Universal Software Radio Peripheral(USRP). Our system consists of two commercial monopole antennas, self-designed switch board, and an USRP, and it is controlled using LabVIEW program in real-time. From measured results, it is verified that our system can exactly detect the incident angle within 4 degree in the range of 30 degree. Our direction finding system has advantages of a simple hardware architecture than conventional one with multiple receivers, and a simple algorithm only by using a main lobe and a first side-lobe of switching frequency.

  • Characteristics of sleeve-gun arrays installed on the R/V Onnuri were analyzed and compared with survey data. In the case of cluster array, the beam width in the frequency range up to 814Hz is constant as $179.5^{\circ}$, and rapidly narrows in the frequency range of 814-1631Hz. However, in the case of long and wide arrays, as the frequency increases, the beamwidth decreases. The optimal frequency is 69Hz. the main lobe of vertical inclination has its maximum amplitude at phase angle $0^{\circ}$. The optimal frequency of cluster array which produces little side lobe is less than 1631Hz, and those of long and wide arrays are less than 108Hz. As a result, the cluster array produces a good source for high-resolution seismic survey, while the long and wide arrays are suitable for the survey of deep structures. The final high-resolution seismic section with cluster array was compared with that of long and wide arrays.

  • ■Background Overall prevalence of visual field loss after stroke was estimated at 31%, ranged from 5.5- 57%. Among them, homonymous hemianopia is the most common symptom of post-stroke visual field loss and leads to a decrease in the quality of life and therapeutic effect. However, standard treatment has not been established. ■Case report A 48-year-old male with right side homonymous hemianopia by a left occipital-parietal lobe hemorrhage was treated with Qu-Ji-Du-Huang-Wan, acupuncture and electroacupuncture for 20 days. We used confrontation visual field exam, automated perimetry and visual analog scale for evaluating symptoms. Following treatment, confrontation visual field exam and the subjective discomfort was improved. ■Conclusions The present case report suggests that combined Korean medicine treatment might be an effective treatment of post-stroke homonymous hemianopia. A number of follow up studies should be conducted to clarify the effectiveness of treatment.
