Horizontal hydrodynamic coupling between shuttle tanker and FPSO arranged side-by-side

  • Side-by-side offloading operations are widely utilized in engineering practice. The hydrodynamic interactions between two vessels play a crucial role in safe operation. This study focuses on the coupled effects between two floating bodies positioned side-by-side as a shuttle tanker-FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading) system. Several wave directions with different side-by-side distances are studied in order to obtain the variation tendency of the horizontal hydrodynamic coefficients, motion responses and mean drift forces. It is obtained that the coupled hydrodynamics between two vessels is evidently distinguished from the single body case with shielding and exaggerating effects, especially for sway and yaw directions. The resonance frequency and the peak amplitude are closely related with side-by-side separation distance. In addition, the horizontal hydrodynamics of the shuttle tanker is more susceptible to coupled effects in beam waves. It is suggested to expand the gap distance reasonably in order to reduce the coupled drift forces effectively. Attention should also be paid to the second peaks caused by hydrodynamic coupling. Since the horizontal mean drift forces are the most mainly concerned forces to be counteracted in dynamic positioning (DP) system and mooring system, prudent prediction is beneficial in saving consumed power of DP system and reducing tension of mooring lines.

A Multi-megawatt Long Pulse Ion Source of Neutral Beam Injector for the KSTAR

  • A multi-megawatt long pulse ion source (LPIS) of neutral beam injector was developed for the KSTAR. Beam extraction experiments of the LPIS were carried out at the neutral beam test stand (NBTS). Design requirements for the ion source were 120 kV/65 A deuterium beam and a 300 s pulse length. A maximum ion density of $9.1310^{11}$ $cm^{-3}$ was measured by using electric probes, and an optimum arc efficiency of 0.46 A/kW was estimated with ion saturation current of the probes, arc power, and total beam area. An arcing problem, caused by the structural defect of decelerating grid supporter, in the third gap was solved by the blocking of backstream ion particles, originated from the plasma in the neutralizer duct, through the unnecessary spaces on the side of grid supporter. A maximum drain power of 1.5 MW (i.e. 70 kV/21 A) with hydrogen was measured for a pulse duration of 0.5 s. Optimum beam perveance was ranged from 0.75 to 0.85. An improved design of accelerator for the effective control of beam particle trajectory should provide higher beam perveance.

  • 본 논문은 위상최적화 기법을 이용하여 전방측면 부재를 최적화 한다. 전방측면 부재에 최적화를 진행하기 전에 사각단면 부재에 최적화를 진행한다. 목적함수는 1 차 좌굴 계수가 길이방향으로 최소화되도록 설정한다. 설계변수는 법선방향으로 질점의 이동이다. 사각단면부재의 반응표면법을 이용한 최적화 모델과 위상최적화 모델에 대해 충돌해석을 수행한다. 위상최적화 기법을 검증하기 위해 두 결과를 비교한다. 그 결과 위상최적화 기법을 충돌해석에 적용할 수 있다는 것을 확인하고 실제차량의 전방측면부재에 적용한다. 결과적으로 전방측면 부재는 최적화되고 내충격성이 향상한다.

Can pterygoid plate asymmetry be linked to temporomandibular joint disorders?

  • Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the relationship between pterygoid plate asymmetry and temporomandibular joint disorders. Materials and Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of 60 patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) involving pain were analyzed and compared with images of 60 age-and gender-matched controls. Three observers performed linear measurements of the lateral pterygoid plates. Results: Statistically significant differences were found between measurements of the lateral pterygoid plates on the site that had pain and the contralateral site (p<0.05). The average length of the lateral pterygoid plates (LPPs) in patients with TMD was $17.01{\pm}3.64mm$ on the right side and $16.21{\pm}3.51mm$ on the left side, and in patients without TMD, it was $11.86{\pm}1.97mm$ on the right side and $11.98{\pm}1.85mm$ on the left side. Statistically significant differences in the LPP length, measured on CBCT, were found between patients with and without TMD (p<0.05). The inter-examiner reliability obtained in this study was very high for all the examiners (0.99, 95% confidence interval: 0.98-0.99). Conclusion: Within the limits of the present study, CBCT lateral pterygoid plate measurements at the side with TMD were found to be significantly different from those on the side without TMD. More research is needed to explore potential etiological correlations and implications for treatment.

삼각형 패치 트윈 트리 배열 안테나의 특성 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of the Twin Tree Array Structure of the Triangular Patch Array Antenna)

  • 본 논문은 인셋 구조의 삼각 패치 안테나를 기본 구조로 하며, 배열 구조를 트윈 트리 형태로 하여 안테나 주엽 이득을 개선시키고 부엽 이득을 줄이는 연구에 대한 것이다. 삼각 인셋 패치의 2-4-6개의 배열로 이루어진 동일한 트리 2개를 나란히 배치하여 트윈 트리 구조를 구현했다. 파라미터 분석을 통해 나란히 배치된 트리 구조 간의 간격이 임피던스 매칭에 가장 효과적인 것을 확인했다. 제작된 안테나는 24.15 GHz에서 16.74 dBi 이득을 갖고, E-plane에서 주엽의 빔폭은 22°, H-plane에서는 6°이다. 안테나 크기는 125 mm × 50 mm이며, 유전상수가 3.2인 Taconic TLC 기판을 사용했다. 트윈 트리 구조의 주엽 이득은 개선되었지만 2개 트리 배열 구조의 상호 간섭으로 인한 빔 패턴에서의 지향성 부분은 개선할 여지가 있다.

  • We experimented variables of four kinds(a/d=1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5) of shear span ratio to consider a structural characteristic of high-strength lightweight concrete beam used industrial by-product. Through the research of serials, the more increase of shear span ratio, the more ductility is superior. Rating the capacity of high-strength concrete beam and the capacity of lightweight concrete beam, in existing lightweight concrete beam evaluation formula, if a shear strength formula for normal concrete multiplies 0.85(reduction factor), it is rated as safety side over shear span ratio 2.5, but it is riskful at low shear span ratio. Therefore it is important that these factors are considered as the evaluation.

  • Dynamic deflection analysis of sandwich beams with cellular core under thermal and pulse loads has been performed in the present article. The cellular core sandwich beam has two layers fortified by graphene oxide powder (GOP) which are micromechanically modeled by Halpin-Tsai formulation. The pulse load has blast type and is applied on the top side of sandwich beam. The system of equations has been developed based on higher-order beam theory and Ritz method. Then, they are solved in Laplace domain to derive the dynamic deflections. The dependency of beam deflection on temperature variation, GOP content, pulse load duration/location and core relative density has been studied in detail.

U-플랜지 트러스 복합보의 휨 내력에 대한 실험 연구 (Experimental Study on the Flexural Capacity of the U-Flanged Truss Hybrid Beam)

  • U-flanged truss beam is composed of u-shaped upper steel flange, lower steel plate of 8mm or more thickness, and connecting lattice bars welded on the upper and lower sides. The hybrid beam with U-flanged steel truss is made in the construction site through pouring the concrete, and designated as U-flanged truss hybrid beam. In this study the structural experiments on the 4 hybrid beams with the proposed basic shapes were performed, and the flexural capacities from the tests were compared with those from the theoretical approach. The failure modes of each specimen were quite similar. The peak load was reached with the ductile behavior after yielding, and the failure occurred through the concrete crushing. The considerable increasement of deformation was observed up to the concrete crushing. The composite action of concrete and steel member was considered to be reliable from the behavior of specimens. The flexural strength of hybrid beam has been evaluated exactly using the calculation method applied in the boubly reinforced concrete beam. The placement of additional rebars in the bottom instead of upper side is proposed for the efficient design of U-flanged truss hybrid beam.

  • 광도파로열 격자(AWG :Arrayed Waveguide Grating) 파장 필터는 전광 네트웍(All Optical Network)을 실현하는 매우 중요한 핵심 소자 중에 하나이다. 광도파로열 격자 파장 필터와 같은 광도파 소자를 해석 및 설계시 수학적인 해석이 필요하며, 가장 대표적인 방법은 BPM(Beam Propagation Method)이다. 본 논문에서는 Paraxial BPM과 Wide Angle BPM을 InP/InGaAsP/InP 광도파로열 격자 파장 필터 해석에 적용시켜 정화도의 차이를 고찰해 보았다. WA-BPM을 구현하기 위하여 저차의 Pade Approximant를 적용하였다. 광도파로열 격자 파장 필터의 SLL(Side Lobe Level)과 삽입손실(Insertion Loss)을 비교하여 분석하였다. 광도파로열 격자 파장 필터를 정확하게 해석 및 설계하기 위해서는 고차의 WA-BPM을 사용해야 함을 확인하였다.

고온 전자빔 증착에 의한 Ethylene Terephthalate상의 SiOx 박막의 특성 평가 (Characteristics of Defects in SiOx Thin films on Ethylene Terephthalate by High-temperature E-beam Deposition)

  • In this paper, we investigated the characterization of silicon oxide(SiOx) thin film on Ethylene Terephthalate(PET) substrates by e-beam deposition for transparent barrier application. The temperature of chamber increases from $30^{\circ}C$ to $110^{\circ}C$, the roughness increase while the Water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) decreases. Under these conditions, the WVTR for PET can be reduced from a level of $0.57 g/m^2/day$ (bare subtrate) to $0.05 g/m^2/day$ after application of a 200-nm-thick $SiO_2$ coating at 110 C. A more efficient way to improve permeation of PET was carried out by using a double side coating of a 5-${\mu}m$-thick parylene film. It was found that the WVTR can be reduced to a level of $-0.2 g/m^2/day$. The double side parylene coating on PET could contribute to the lower stress of oxide film, which greatly improves the WVTR data. These results indicates that the $SiO_2$ /Parylene/PET barrier coatings have high potential for flexible organic light-emitting diode(OLED) applications.
