  • A Fault Detection. Isolation scheme based on ANN(Artifical Neural Network) is proposed for the supervision of a DC shunt motor. The Proposed FDI scheme can promptly detect the occurence of fault and classify all the faults that may occur during the operation. Also. it covers the full operating range in spite that the mathematical model of the motor contain strong nonlinearities. The simulation results show that the FDIU has good diagnostic ability even in the noisy environment.

  • This paper describes CSC(Current Sourced Converters)-based HVDC operational strategy for voltage stability enhancement in the power system. In case of CSC-based HVDC system, rectifier and inverter consume reactive power up to about 60% of converter rating. Therefore, CSC-based HVDC is basically not useful system for voltage stability even if AC filters and shunt capacitors are attached. But, If the particular power system condition is fulfilled, CSC-based HVDC also can be the rapid reactive power source for voltage stability enhancement using a cooperative control with converter and AC filters/Shunt Capacitors. In this paper, the cooperative control algorithm is presented and simulated to ${\pm}80kV$ 60MW HVDC system in Jeju island.

Verification of Controlled Closing Method for Unearthed Shunt Capacitor Banks by Simulation (비접지 분로 콘덴서 뱅크의 투입제어방식에 대한 시뮬레이션 검증)

  • In this paper the controlled closing algorithm of the circuit breaker for isolated capacitor banks is proposed. The characteristics of circuit breakers such as RDDS(rate of decrease of dielectric strength) and a mechanical operating tolerance should be also taken into account to locate contact touch instants around voltage zero. The analysis results on the voltages across circuit breaker terminals upon closing operation play an important roles to describe the suggested method. The simulations carried out in order to verify the performance of this method show that the closing instants obtained from the proposed method provide a good suppression effect on the closing transients for both single and back-to-back capacitor banks.

Clinical Experience of Cardiovascular Surgery in Military Hospital - 114 Cases - (군병원에서의 심혈관계 수술 114례에 대한 임상적 고찰)

  • One hundred and fourteen patients were underwent cardiovascular operation from the 11th June 1985 to 12th July 1988 in the department of cardiovascular surgery of Seoul District Hospital. There were one hundred and one open heart surgery patients and thirteen non-open heart surgery patients. Of open heart surgery cases, seventy-four were acyanotic, twenty four were cyanotic congenital heart disease and three were acquired valvular heart disease. VSD was most common[55 cases] among acyanotic group and TOF[21 cases] was most common among cyanotic group. Of non-open heart patients, there were eleven cases of PDA and two cases of shunt[modified Blalock-Taussig shunt using PTFE graft] for TOF. There were one operative death[0.9%] due to inadequate relief of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction and peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis for TOF patient. No Patients were dead during follow-up.

  • Multistage unifocalization and complete repair have been performed for pulmonary atresia ventricular septal defect and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries. We reported a case that divided major aortopulmonary collateral artery was changed into an aneurysm that compressed the left main bronchus. A 1-year-8-month old boy was operated. The Rastelli operation with left pulmonary artery reconstructuion ligation of patent ductus arteriosus and take-down of right Blalock-Taussing shunt was performed on the patient who had pulmonary atreisia ventricular septal defect patent ductus arteriosus and MAPCA at 1 year and 8 months of his age. He previously underwent the unifocalization and right B-T shunt at 9 months of age,. He repeatedly had difficulty in weaning from the mechanical ventilator, After removing the aneurysm from the divided MAPCA that compressed the left main bronchus externally it was possible to wean him from the mechanical ventilator.

  • In system planing and operation, voltage and reactive power control is very important. The voltage deviation and system losses can be reduced through control of reactive power sources. In general, there are several different reactive power sources, we used switched shunt capacitor to improve the voltage profile and to reduce system losses. Since there are many switched shunt capacitors in power system, so it if necessary to coordinate these switched shunt capacitors. In this study, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to find optimal coordination of switched shunt capacitors in a local area of power system. In case study, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated in KEPCO's power system. The simulation is performed by PSS/E and the results of simulation are compared with sensitivity method.

  • We operated on a 41-year-old man using venous bypass shunt for superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome caused by mediastinal fibrosis. The patient had substantially high venous pressure and high risk of postoperative neurologic deficits. The collateral veins were deemed to be interrupted during the surgical reconstruction of SVC. Treatment included resection of the obstructed SVC and innominate vein and reconstruction with an autologous pericardial tube graft. During the operation, venous drainage from upper body was maintained with an extraluminal bypass shunt. The shunt was effective at prompt relief of venous hypertension, eliminating the time constraints, and preventing the postoperative complications.

  • It is challenging to treat ventriculitis with parenteral treatment alone in some cases because of the difficulty involved in maintaining an appropriate level of antibiotics in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). We report two cases of ventriculitis who did not respond to intravenous (IV) antibiotics but were successfully treated with intraventricular antibiotics using IV agents. The first case was a four-month-old male patient with X-linked hydrocephalus. He showed ventriculitis due to Klebsiella pneumoniae not producing extended-spectrum β-lactamase and susceptible to third-generation cephalosporins and gentamicin, following ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt. His condition did not improve during the 47 days of treatment with IV cefotaxime and meropenem. We achieved improvement in clinical presentation and CSF profile after three times of intraventricular gentamicin injection. The patient was discharged from the hospital with antiepileptic drugs. The second case was a six-month-old female patient with a history of neonatal meningitis complicated with hydrocephalus at one month of age, VP shunt at two months of age, followed by a methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) shunt infection with ventriculitis after the shunt operation. CoNS ventriculitis recurred four weeks later. We failed to treat intractable methicillin-resistant CoNS ventriculitis with IV vancomycin for ten days, and thus intraventricular antimicrobial treatment was considered. Five times of intraventricular vancomycin administration led to improvement in clinical parameters. There were only neurological sequelae of delayed language development but no other major complications. Patients in these two cases responded well to intraventricular antibiotics, with negative CSF culture results, and were successfully treated for ventriculitis without serious complications.

Palliative surgery for cyanotic heart disease: 102 cases (선천성 청색증 심장병에 대한 고식적 수술: 102례 보)

  • From Jan. 1962 to Aug. 1983, one hundred patients with cyanotic heart disease underwent various palliative operations at the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, S.N.U.H. In the period from Jan. 1962 to Dec. 1973, in which the open heart surgery was not routinely performed, sixty-two operations including 2 cases of second shunt operation were performed in sixty patients, and all of them were tetralogy of Fallot except three cases. Various palliative procedures such as Glenn, Brock, Waterston and Blalock-Taussing operation were used in this period with overall mortality rate of 16%. In the period from Jan. 1980 to Aug. 1983, forty patients with cyanotic heart disease were operated and majority of them was complex anomalies. Only Blalock-Taussing operation was used in this period with a mortality rate of 20%. These two groups of patients were compared according to age, diagnosis and results of operations, and it appears that Blalock-Taussing operation is effective palliation for patients with cyanotic heart disease, especially with complex anomaly, with an acceptable mortality.

관상정맥동 천정결손증 3례 보고

  • Unroofed coronary sinus syndrome is an uncommon anomaly, Unroofed coronary sinus syndrome is caused by incomplete formation of the left atriovenous fold, and it usually is associated with Left SVC. If it is not diagnosed, a residual reversed or bidirectional shunt will result, and its complications will reduce life expectancy. We experienced 3 cases of unroofed coronary sinus syndrome which combines TOF with PLSVC, partial ECD, primum type ASD. In case of Unroofed coronary sinus syndrome which combines TIF with PLSVC, preoperative diagnosis was not made. In corrective operation for TOF of this case, pump weaning was failed due to hypoxia and cardiac arrest, and he expired at operation room. At autopsy of this case, complete unroofed coronary sinus was found. In the other 2 cases, partial unroofed coronary sinus syndrome was found in operation field and corrective operation was performed successfully.
