This paper deals with a novel shunt circuit, which is capable of suppressing multimode vibration amplitudes by using a pair of piezoceramic patches. In order to describe the characteristic behaviors of a piezoelectric damper connected with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitor branch circuit, the stiffness ratio and loss factor with respect to the non-dimensional frequency are considered. The mechanism of the shunt damper is also described by considering a shunt voltage constrained by shunt impedance. To obtain a guideline model of the piezo/beam system with a negative capacitive shunting, the governing equations of motion are derived through the Hamilton's principle and a piezo sensor equation as well as a shunt-damping matrix is developed. The theoretical analysis shows that the piezo/beam system combined with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitor branch circuit developed in this study can significantly reduce the multiple-mode vibration amplitudes over the whole structural frequency range.
In this paper, the transmitted noise reduction of smart panels of which passive piezoelectric shunt damping is used, is experimentally studied. Shunt damping experiments are based on the measured electrical impedance model. A passive shunt circuit composed of inductor, and load resistor is devised to dissipate the maximum energy into the joule heat energy For multi mode shunt damping, the shunt circuit is redesigned by adding a blocking circuit. In a AC motor used by three phase inverter, the phase current must be measured to control instantaneous torque. It is expensive to use current sensor for measuring current in low cost motor. So, shunt resistor is used to measure current. But, the method sensing the phase current using shunt resistor cannot perform the vector control in high speed because of the area that impossible to restore three phase current. In this paper, predictive current is proposed for reconstructing the current in the impossible current sensing area that reduce the current ripple in TSSI(Three shunt sensing inverter) for PMSM.
MRI magnet has generally multi-section coil configurations to generate highly homogeneous magnetic field. Each coil is bridged by a shunt resistor to protect the superconducting magnet during quench. In order to optimize the shunt resistor, self inductance of each coil and mutual inductances between coils should be determined beforehand. Therefore, we calculated the self and the mutual inductances of MRI magnet with OPERA program for electromagnetic analysis.
In this paper, we prepared a metal alloy resistor with stable thermal electro motive force (thermal EMF) as well as a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) by adjusting the manganese proportion from 3 to 12 wt% in the Cu-Mn-Ni alloy. Composition of the fabricated metal alloy was investigated using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The TCR of each sample was measured as 44.56, 40.54, 35.60, and 31.56 ppm for Cu-3Mn-2Ni, Cu-5Mn-2Ni, Cu-10Mn-2Ni, and Cu-12Mn-2Ni, respectively. All the resistor samples were available for the F grade (${\pm}1%$ of the allowable error of resistance) high-precision resistor. All the samples satisfied the baseline of high thermal EMF (under 3 mV at $60^{\circ}C$); however, Cu-3Mn-2Ni and Cu-5Mn-2Ni satisfied the baseline of low thermal EMF (under 0.3 mV at $25^{\circ}C$). We were thus able to design and fabricate the metal alloy resistor of Cu-3Mn-2Ni and Cu-5Mn-2Ni to have low TCR and stable thermal EMF at the same time.
In this study, a passive suppression scheme for nonlinear flutter problem of composite panel, which is believed to be more reliable than the active control methods in practical operations, is proposed. This scheme utilizes a piezoelectric inductor-resistor series shunt circuit. The finite element equations of motion for an electromechanically coupled system is derived by applying the Hamilton\\`s principle. The aerodynamic theory adopted for the present study is based on the quasi-steady piston theory, and von-barman nonlinear strain-displacement relation is also applied. The passive suppression results for nonlinear panel flutter are obtained in the time domain using the Newmark-$\beta$ method. To achieve the best damping effect, optimal shape and location of fille piezoceramic (PZT) patches are determined by using genetic algorithms. The effects of passive suppression are investigated by employing in turn one shunt circuit and two independent shunt circuits. Feasibility studies show that two independent inductor-resistor shunt circuits suppresses flutter more effectively than a single shunt circuit. The results clearly demonstrate that the passive damping scheme that uses piezoelectric shunt circuit can effectively attenuate the flutter.
In this paper, we fabricated Cu/Mn alloy shunt resistor with low resistance and thermal stability for use of mobile electronic devices. We designed metal alloy composed of copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn) to embody in low resistance and low TCR which are conflict each other. Cu allows high electrical conductivity and Mn serves thermal stability in this Cu/Mn alloy system. We confirmed the elemental composition of the designed metal alloy system by using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. We obtained low resistance below $10m{\Omega}$ and low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) below $100ppm/^{\circ}C$ from the designed Cu/Mn alloy resistor. And in order to minimize resistance change caused by alternative frequency on circuit, shape design of the metal alloy wire is performed by rolling process. Finally, we conclude that design of the metal alloy system was successfully done by alloying Cu and 3 wt% of Mn, and the Cu/Mn alloy resistor has low resistance and thermal stability.
We fabricated plate typed shunt resistors composed of carbon nanotube (CNT) and metal alloy for measuring DC current. CNT plates were prepared from dispersed CNT/Urethane solution by squeezing method. Cu/Ni alloys were prepared from composition-designed alloy wires for adjusting the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) by pressing them. As well, we fabricated a hybrid resistor by squeezing the CNT/Urethane solution on the metal alloy plate directly. In order to confirm the composition ratio of the Cu/Ni alloy, we used an energy-dispersed X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Cross-section and surface morphology were analyzed by using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Finally, we measured the initial resistance of 2.35 Ω at 25℃ for the CNT paper resistor, 7.56 mΩ for the alloy resistor, and 7.38 mΩ for the hybrid resistor. The TCR was also measured to be -778.72 ppm/℃ at the temperature range between 25℃ to 125℃ for the CNT paper resistor, 824.06 ppm/℃ for the alloy resistor, and 17.61 ppm/℃ for the hybrid resistor. Some of the hybrid resistors showed a near-zero TCR of 1.38, -2.77, 2.66, and 5.49 ppm/℃, which might be the world best-value ever reported. Consequently, we could expect an error-free measurement of the DC current using this resistor.
Generally, the average phase current is sampled at the midpoint of a PWM signal for the vector control of an AC motor. The three-phase current can also be reconstructed from a DC-link shunt resistor by sampling the shunt voltage during the active vectors of the SVPWM. However, the reconstructed current is different from the average current because of the deviation of the sampling point from the midpoint of the PWM signal. This paper proposes an algorithm to estimate the average current from the reconstructed current in a single-shunt inverter. The proposed method is derived from the phase current slopes based on switching states and corresponding switching time. In addition, the proposed method is generalized for all the six sectors of the space vector hexagon. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified with simulations and experiments.
