Current tanks have been developed to increase mobility and firepower, and its maximum range and destructive power are improved. This great change causes remained vibration of a gun barrel after firing. For this reason, people are trying to control vibration of gun barrel effectively. This thesis presents a modeling method and analysis results for gun barrel by using a thermal shroud as an absorber mass. DTS(Dynamically Tuned Shroud) is a vibration damping system using a thermal shroud as an added mass for decreasing remained vibration. The model has an advantage that the gun barrel's vibration can be decreased by dissipating a kinetic energy of thermal shroud without install an additional dynamic absorber to tip of the gun barrel. For analyzing the damping performance of the DTS, We derived an equation of motion of the barrel after setting a mathematical modeling, and found out the frequency analysis and tendency according to stiffness ratio between barrel and shroud.
Hastelloy X in this study was applied in jet engine F-15 air fighter as shroud to isolate the engine from outer skin. After 15 years operation at elevated temperature the mechanical properties decreased gradually due to the precipitation of continues second phases in the grain boundaries and precipitated inside the grain. The crack happened at the edge of the shroud due to the thermal and mechanical stress from jet engine. Selective TEM analysis found that the grain boundaries consist of $M_{23}C_6$ carbide, $M_6$ Ccarbide and small percentage of sigma(${\sigma}$) phase. Furthermore, it was confirmed the nano size of ${\sigma}$ and miu (${\mu}$) phase inside the grain. In this study, it was investigated the microstructure of the degraded shroud component and HAZ of repair welded shroud. In the HAZ, it was observed the dissolution of the $M_{23}C_6$ carbides and smaller precipitates, the migration of the undissolved larger $M_{23}C_6$ carbide and $M_6$ Ccarbide. It is also observed the liquation due to the simply melt of the segregated precipitates in the grain boundaries. Interestingly, the segregated second phases which simply melt in the grain boundaries more easily happened at higher heat input welding condition. High temperature tensile test was done at $300^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$. It was obtained that the toughness of welded sample is lower compare to the non-welded sample. The solution heat treatment at $1170^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes was suggested to obtain a better mechanical properties of the shroud. The high cycle fatigue number of the repair welded shroud shows a much lower compare to the shroud. In addition, the high cycle fatigue number at room temperature after solution heat treatment was almost double compare to the before solution heat treatment under 420-500MPa stress amplitude. However, the high cycle fatigue number of repaired welded sample was shown a much lower compare to the non- welded shroud and solution treated shroud. One of the main reasons to decrease the tensile strength and the high cycle fatigue properties of the repair welded shroud is the formation of the liquid phase in HAZ.
A barrel is a high length-to-diameter ratio cylinder that is influenced by environmental factors such as sunlight, precipitation, wind and clouds. Cross-barrel temperature differences caused by uneven heating or cooling lead to thermal deformation that degrades accuracy. Therefore, a barrel is covered by thermal shrouds to minimize the type of thermal deformation, "fall-of-shot". In this paper, an analytical and experimental study is presented to design the thermal shrouds for a gun barrel and to evaluate the thermal shroud effect. First, an analytical study on the thermal shroud effect to minimize thermal deformation of a gun barrel by sunlight and wind is performed. The coupled analysis of thermal fluid dynamics of the air flow between a barrel and thermal shrouds and thermal stresses of a barrel Is performed to clarify both the thermal shroud effect and the drift in gun muzzle orientation by thermal deformation. Second, experiments are carried out to test and evaluate the thermal shroud effect on the performance of a gun barrel. The drift in gun muzzle orientation against the solar radiation is confirmed by the experiments, and the results well agree with the analytical estimation. Third, three principal design factors that are presumed to have an effect on the performance of the thermal shrouds are also analyzed; sorts of shroud materials, wall-thickness of thermal shrouds, and distance of the gap between a barrel and thermal shrouds.

The effect of relative position of the stationary turbine blade for the fixed vane has been investigated on blade tip and shroud heat transfer. The local mass transfer coefficients were measured on the tip and shroud fur the blade fixed at six different positions within a pitch. A low speed stationary annular cascade with a single turbine stage was used. The chord length of the tested blade is 150 mm and the mean tip clearance of the blade having flat tip is 2.5% of the blade chord. A naphthalene sublimation technique was used for the detailed mass transfer measurements on the tip and the shroud. The inlet flow Reynolds number based on chord length and incoming flow velocity is fixed to $1.5{\times}10^5$. The results show that the incoming flow condition and heat transfer characteristics significantly change when the relative position of the blade changes. On the tip, the size of high heat/mass transfer region along the pressure side varies in the axial direction and the difference of heat transfer coefficient is up to 40% in the upstream region of the tip because the position of flow reattachment changes. On shroud, the effect of tip leakage vortex on the shroud as well as tip gap entering flow changes as the blade position changes. Thus, significantly different heat transfer patterns are observed with various blade positions and the periodic variation of heat transfer is expected with the blade rotation.

Flow velocity changes in the shroud system for tidal current power generation due to experimental flow velocities and blade geometry changes were analyzed by hydraulic experiment and numerical simulation. Through the hydraulic experiment, flow velocities at inlet of shroud system and RPM according to blade geometry were measured, and numerical simulation was used to analyze flow velocity changes in shroud. When the experimental flow velocity was increased by about 28% and the shape of the airfoil was applied, the measured flow velocity at the shroud inlet tended to increase by up to about 56%. On the other hand, when airfoil-shaped blades were installed, the flow velocity at the inlet tended to increase by up to 14% compared to conventional blades, and RPM was also the highest at the same conditions. The hydraulic experiment and numerical simulation results showed an error of about 13%, and the trends of the flow velocity changes in each result are similar. Numerical simulation of the flow velocity changes in the shroud showed that the flow velocity tended to increase 1.7 times at the front of the blade compared to the inlet. The results of the flow velocity change analysis in the shroud system obtained from this study will provide the basic data necessary for the development of efficient shroud system for tidal current power generation.
The last stage blade of the low pressure steam turbine remarkably affects turbine plant performance and availability Turbine manufacturers are continuously developing the low pressure last stage blades using the latest technology in order to achieve higher reliability and improved efficiency. They tend to lengthen the last stage blade and apply shrouds at the blades to enhance turbine efficiency. The long blades increase the blade tip circumferential speed and water droplet erosion at shroud is anticipated. Parts of integral shrouds of the last stage 40 inch blades were cracked and liberated recently in a combined cycle power plant. In order to analyze the root cause of the last stage blades shroud cracks, we investigated operational history, heat balance diagram, damaged blades shape, fractured surface of damaged blades, microstructure examination and design data, etc. Root causes were analyzed as the improper material and design of the blade. Notches induced by erosion and blade shroud were failed eventually by high cycle fatigue. This paper describes the root cause analysis and countermeasures for the steam turbine last stage blade shroud cracks of the combined cycle power plant.
Computational investigation was conducted to study the effects of the shape parameter of shroud on the performance of the outdoor unit of an air-conditioners. For this study the Design of Experiment(4-factor 3-level) was created and the an automatic program was composed using VBA to reduce the load of pre-process for CFD. The estimated mathematical equation was produced from this analysis and it was found that the gap between fan and shroud affects more heavily than the other parameters. As a result, the composition of the best parameters was verified that its flow rate was increased by 10 percents and sound pressure level was reduced by 1.2 dBA compare with the worst. And finally, a kind of Propeller fan with blades which were attached to the shroud, so-called 'ProBeller Fan' was introduced in this study.
This paper presents the results of investigating the change in welding residual stresses of the core shroud, which is one of subcomponents in reactor vessel internals, performing finite element analysis. First, the welding residual stresses of the core shroud were calculated by applying the heat conduction based lumped pass technique and finite element elastic-plastic stress analysis. Second, the temperature distribution of the core shroud during the normal operation was calculated by performing finite element temperature analysis considering gamma heating. Third, through the finite element viscoelastic-plastic stress analysis using the calculated temperature distribution and setting the calculated residual stresses as the initial stress state, the variation of the welding residual stresses was derived according to repeating the normal operation. In the viscoelastic-plastic stress analysis, the effects of neutron irradiation on mechanical properties during the cyclic normal operations were considered by using the previously developed user subroutines for the irradiation agings such as irradiation hardening/embrittlement, irradiation-induced creep, and void swelling. Finally, the effect of neutron irradiation on the welding residual stresses was analysed for each irradiation aging. As a result, it is found that as the normal operation is repeated, the welding residual stresses decrease and show insignificant magnitudes after the 10th refueling cycle. In addition, the irradiation-induced creep/void swelling has significant mitigation effect on the residual stresses whereas the irradiation hardening/embrittlement has no effect on those.
In this paper, the performance analysis is experimentally carried out in order to select the best cooling fan and shroud considering both cooling performance and noise reduction. 4 cooling fans have been tested in the fan tester and the real excavator. In order to obtain the performance of the cooling fans, flow capacity has been estimated by measuring flow velocity using a hot wire anemometer, and noise radiation has been also measured to estimate the fan noise. Characteristics of a box-type and a streamlined shroud have been examined by changing the immersion depth of cooling fans. Based upon the results, the best cooling fan is selected. Finally, the criterion to select the best cooling fan has been set up.

This paper presents a numerical evaluation of the flow rate of air conditioner outdoor unit by investigating the effects of fan location and shroud shape. To determine optimal design parameters, we investigated the exhaust flow rate by changing shroud height, fan height, fan guide height, and fan width. The 3rd order central composite design was performed to select three most important parameters affecting the exhaust flow rate. According to the result of response surface method, the exhaust flow rate of the optimum model increased by 6.25% compared to that of the base model.
