To absorb the deformation of ,external live load, thermal gradient, shrinkage and creep in bridge structures and general structures, expansion joint has to be established. Especially expansion joint for high-speed railway bridge has to accomodate the static and dynamic forces and it not only has the durability of itself but also maintain the durability of structure by preventing the leakage of water. The actual used product of expansion joint for high-speed railway bridge is only ones made in France, Germany and Japan. In this study, the development process and test results of developed expansion joint are introduced which has the functional operation and durability enough to apply to high-speed railway bridges, roadway bridges and general structures. The tests consist of fatigue-durability test of 3 million times by high-speed rail load, leakage test and jack-up test for verifying the possibility of exchanging it. The performance of developed expansion joint satisfy the specification of Korea High Speed Rail Construction Authority.
In a multi-cavity mold having a runner layout of a fish bone structure, problems of unbalanced filling between cavities occur constantly. Unbalanced charging lowers the dimensional accuracy of a molded article and causes deformation after molding. To solve this problem, the gate size connected to each cavity is adjusted using the BGV (Balanced Gate Value) equation. In this paper, in order to solve the filling imbalance problem of the runner layout mold of fish bone structure through injection molding analysis study, we compared the charging imbalance phenomenon before and after improvement after adjusting the gate size by applying BGV equation. From the results of the molding analysis, the shrinkage ratio before and after the improvement of the molded article was improved by only about 0.08%. Based on these results, it was confirmed that the charging imbalance problem was not significantly improved even when the BGV equation was applied.
In this study, we investigate the injection molding of f-theta lens, an important element of the laser scanning unit of laser printers and scanning systems. The f-theta lens is an aspherical plastic lens that must be molded with a precision of seconds. An injection molding method is often used for mass producing aspherical plastic lenses at a low cost. In the injection molding process, costs related to forming and injection are included. Therefore, in this study, to determine the shrinkage and deformation of injection molded f-theta lens, we predict the pressure and temperature distributions. Further, based on the analysis of the predictions, we maximize the design efficiency and verify the cost and development period reduction.
In this study, creep deformation characteristics of high strength concrete under dry curing conditions were investigated. It was confirmed that the creep coefficient decreases as the compressive strength of concrete increases. In addition, a modified proposal for calculating the ultimate creep factor of the ACI 209 model can be derived using the measured values.
During sintering of very porous green bodies, as obtained by compaction of hard powders - such as tungsten carbide or ceramics - or by injection moulding, important shrinkage occurs. Due to heterogeneous green density field, gravity effects, friction on the support, thermal gradients, etc., this shrinkage is often non-uniform, which' may induce significant shape changes. As the ratio of compact dimension to powder size is very high, the mechanics of continuum is relevant to model such phenomena. Thus numerical techniques, such as the finite element method can be used to simulate the sintering process and predict the final shape of the sintered part. Such type of simulation has much been developed in the last decade firstly for hot isostatic pressing and next for die compaction. Finite element modelling has been recently applied to free sintering. The simulation of sintering should be based on constitutive equations describing the thermo-mechanical behaviour of the material under any state of stress and any temperature which may arise within the sintering body. These equations can be drawn either from experimental data or from micromechanical models. The experiments usually consist in free sintering and sinter-forging tests. Indeed applying more complex loading conditions at high temperature under controlled atmosphere is delicate. Micromechanical models describe the constitutive behaviour of aggregates of spheres from the deformation of two-sphere contact either by viscous flow or grain boundary diffusion. Such models are not able to describe complex microstructure and mechanisms as observed in real materials but they can give some basic information on the formulation of constitutive equations. Practically both experimental and theoretical approaches can be coupled to identify the constitutive equations. Such procedure has been performed for modelling the sintering of compacts obtained by die pressing of a mixture of tungsten carbide and cobalt powders. The constitutive behaviour of this material during sintering has been described by a linear viscous constitutive model, whose functions have been fitted from results of free sintering and sinter-forging experiments. This model has next been introduced in ABAQUS finite element code to simulate the sintering of heterogeneous green compacts of various geometries at constant temperature. Examples of simulations are shown and compared with experiments.

Although portland cement concrete is one of the most universal construction materials, it has some disadvantage such as shrinkage, which is an inherent characteristic. Because of this shrinkage, combined with the low tensile strength of the material, cracks of varying sizes can be found in every reinforced concrete. To prevent this cracking, keeping the concrete in compression by mechanical prestress has been used. This study discusses application of expansive additives for concrete to improve the serviceability of precast concrete box culvert by inducing chemical prestress. For this purpose, both expansive concrete slabs and normal concrete slabs are tested to verify the effect of expansive additives. Then the failure tests of the fullscale precast box culverts were carried out and the critical aspects of the structural behavior were investigated. The result of the material testis shows that the optimal proportion of expansive additives is 13 percent of cement weight, and the properties of expansive concrete are the same as those of normal concrete in that proportion. Both the experimental cracking load and service load of the expansive concrete members are increased in comparison with those of the normal concrete, but the ultimate load is decreased slightly. In addition to the above results, the deformation of expansive concrete member is lets than that of normal concrete member, and permanent strain which results from cyclic load is decreased. It can be concluded that the use of expansive additives to induce chemical prestress in precast concrete box culvert greatly improves the serviceability.
