Purpose : Recently ultrasound images has been used to measure the subacromial space with a linear measurement of the acromiohumeral distance. The purpose of this study was to comparison of distance of subacromial space using ultrasonographic measurement on arm positions of shoulder injured patients. Methods : The subjects were 30 shoulder injured patients (19 males and 11 females). Ultrasonography was performed to measure subacromial space during each shoulder resting position, $45^{\circ}$ abduction, internal rotation with $45^{\circ}$ abduction and external rotation with $45^{\circ}$ abduction. Results : Subacromial space was a significantly difference between injured arm and normal arm at shoulder resting position. At $45^{\circ}$ abduction, subacromial space was narrowing significantly between injured arm and normal arm. At external rotation with $45^{\circ}$ abduction, subacromial space were wider in normal arm than in injured arm but it was not significantly. Intra-observer reliability for ultrasonography measurement of subacromial distance was excellent (.96~.99). Conclusion : These results identified that positions of injured shoulder was related to subacromion space.
A single subject experimental design (alternating treatment design) was used to compare the effects of only ultrasound and ultrasound combined with stretching of the joint capsule on the ROM increase and pain reduction in patients with frozen shoulder. Two subjects were included in each group. In the only ultrasound treatment sessions, ultrasound was applied at the pain point of the shoulder joint in supine position. In the ultrasound combined with stretching treatment sessions, ultrasound was applied at the pain point of the shoulder joint positioned in external rotation and abduction in sitting position. Only ultrasound treatment and ultrasound combined with stretching treatment were alternately performed on each patient. Pain and disability was measured by shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI), and range of motion (ROM) was measured by scratch test. The results of this study showed that ultrasound combined with stretching treatment were more effective than only ultrasound treatment in ROM increase and pain reduction. However, disability score was not significantly different.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of hand grip force on the activity of shoulder muscles in 2 arm postures. The muscle activity of the upper trapezius, lower trapezius, infraspinatus, anterior deltoid, and posterior deltoid muscles in 22 healthy subjects (11 men and 11 women) were measured using surface electrodes during 4 hand gripping tasks (0%, 30%, 50%, and 70% of maximum voluntary contraction) in 2 shoulder positions (neutral position and $90^{\circ}$ elevation position). Among changing grip force significantly differenced infraspinatus, anterior deltoid, and posterior deltoid muscles' activity in the shoulder neutral position(p<0.05). In the shoulder $90^{\circ}$ elevation position, anterior deltoid, posterior deltoid muscles' activity was significantly differenced(p<0.05). Hand gripping was found to alter muscle activation. The hand grip task activated the infraspinatus muscle in the neutral position and inhibited the deltoid muscle in the $90^{\circ}$ elevation position. This finding may prove useful for the development preventative measures and rehabilitation strategies for shoulder injuries.
Purpose: To investigate the effects of electromyography (EMG) biofeedback on the muscle activity of the trapezius, shoulder pain, function, and range of motion (ROM) in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SAIS). Methods: Sixteen patients (9 males and 7 females) with SAIS participated voluntarily. The main outcome measures were muscle activity of the trapezius, shoulder pain (VAS), ROM, and the shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI). Exercises with EMG biofeedback consisted of shoulder flexion in a standing position, shoulder external rotation in a side-lying position, and shoulder horizontal abduction in a prone position. Post measurements were taken immediately after EMG biofeedback training. Results: Middle and lower trapezius activity, as well as ROM, was significantly increased by exercise with EMG biofeedback (p<0.05). In addition, VAS and SPADI scores significantly decreased post-EMG biofeedback training (p<0.05). Conclusion: EMG biofeedback intervention is an effective exercise for SAIS patients to restore activity of the middle and lower trapezius and to improve pain, shoulder function, and ROM.
Purpose: This study examined how performing chin tuck exercises in supine, sitting, and standing positions affects changes in the muscle activity of the neck and shoulder. Methods: Seventeen men and three women with forward head posture participated in the study. The subjects performed the chin tuck exercise using a pressure biofeedback unit. After determining the ideal order for performing the chin tuck exercise in supine, sitting, and standing positions through randomized controlled trials, muscle activity was measured in the dominant-side sternocleidomastoid, scalenus anterior, upper trapezius, and levator scapulae. Muscle activity was measured three times in each muscle for each position, and the average of the three measurements was used for analysis. Results: In this study, the chin tuck exercise performed in a supine position reduced muscle activity of the sternocleidomastoid, scalenus anterior, upper trapezius, and levator scapulae significantly more than performing the exercise in either sitting or standing positions (p < 0.05). No significant difference in muscle activity was observed when the exercise was performed in a sitting position versus a standing position (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Performing a chin tuck exercise in a supine position is more effective for stabilizing the neck and shoulder than performing it in a sitting or standing position, as it reduces excessive tension and fatigue in the neck and shoulder.

Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of neck and shoulder self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media on neck pain, postural alignment, and joint position error in women with chronic neck pain. Methods: The subjects included 20 women that gave consent to participate in the study voluntarily. They performed the self-stretching exercises using audiovisual media was carried out 20 minutes 5 times a week during 3 weeks. Neck disability index (NDI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were used to measure the functional disability and pain, A pressure pain threshold was measured using an algometer, and a cervical range of motion (CROM) measurement tool was used to measure the range of motion and error of proprioceptive position sense of the cervical spine. To assess posture alignment, forward head angle (FHA), forward shoulder angle (FSA) were measured using image J software. Results: The neck pain intensity was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Neck and shoulder functional disability were a statistically significant difference within group (p<.05). Splenius capitis and upper trapezius pressure pain threshold were statistically significant difference in within group (p<.05). The postural alignment was statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The cervical range of motion in neck extension, right and left lateral flexion were statistically significantly within group (p<.05). The joint position error in neck flexion, extension, right and left lateral flexion decreased statistically significantly within group (p<.05). Conclusion: Self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media increased the mobility of the neck, decreased neck pain and joint position error, and improved posture alignment. As a result, there was a positive effect by applying the self-stretching exercise using audiovisual media to people with neck pain. Based on this, it is thought that it can be used as the basis for research related to home training programs for healthy self-management.

This study was to investigate the difference of muscle activities in trunk, upper arm, and shoulder during push-up exercise based on 3 types of different arm position(posterior position, PP; normal position, NP; and anterior position, AP) and to provide effective push-up arm position for each muscle development. Fifteen healthy males(age, $21.5{\pm}0.5years$; height, $172.7{\pm}1.0cm$; body mass, $70.5{\pm}1.3kg$; shoulder width, $42.3{\pm}0.6cm$; and BMI, $23.6{\pm}0.5kg/m^2$) participated in this study. PP, NP, and AP of the arm were used to conduct push-up exercise and 8 muscles(deltoideus p. acromialis: DA; pectoralis minor: PMI; pectoralis major: PMA; serratus anterior: SA; biceps brachii: BB; triceps brachii: TB; latissimus dorsi: LD; and infraspinatus: IS) of right side were selected to measure muscle activities. Total 9 counts of push-up exercise were conducted and EMG data signals of 5-time(from $3^{th}$ to $7^{th}$) push-up movement were used for measuring muscle activities. PP push-up exercise showed that there was a significantly higher muscle activity of DA, PMI, PMA, SA, BB, LD, and IS(p<.05) and AP push-up exercise showed a significantly higher TB activity(p<.05). It would be suggested that different arm position evokes various muscle activities when conducting push-up exercise. PP would be the best push-up arm position for inducing various trunk, upper arm, and shoulder muscle activities compared to NP and AP.
Purpose: This study reports the clinical results of the arthroscopic Bankart repair in traumatic anterior instability of the shoulder with bio-knotless anchor. Materials and Methods: 21 cases of 21 patients (20 male and 1 female) were included in this study. The average age was 24.8 years old and the period from the first injury to operation was average 37.2 months. All cases had Bankart lesion and 12 cases had Hill-Sachs' lesion. The SLAP lesion was associated in 6 cases. Preoperative Rowe score was average 29.1. Arthroscopic Bankart repair with bio-knotless anchor were performed in all cases; 3 anchors at 3, 4, 5 O'clock position of the glenoid were used in 11 cases and 2 anchors at 4, 5 O'clock position were used in 10 cases. All the associated SLAP lesions were repaired arthroscopically with bio-knotless anchor. Thermal capsular shrinkage at the anterior and inferior shoulder capsule after the Bankart repair was performed in 3 cases. The average follow up period was 20.2 months. Results: The Rowe score improved to 92.8, excellent in 17 cases and good in 4 cases, at last follow up period and 20 cases had full range of motion of the shoulder. 1 case had mild limited range of motion of the shoulder (150 degrees in flexion, 60 degrees in external rotation and T12 level in internal rotation) without any problem in normal activity. The arthroscopic revision surgery of the shoulder was performed in 1 case because of multiple traumatic injuries of the shoulder with pain postoperatively. Conclusion: Arthroscopic Bankart repair with bio-knotless anchor in traumatic anterior shoulder instability is one of the good methods because of the good clinical results.
The Purpose of this study is analysis characteristic of grasping power with each different shoulder horizontal angle. Twenty female university students with no shoulder dysfuction participated subject in three different positions of shoulder horizontal flexion with standing posture, shoulder 0° flexion, elbow 90° flexion, forearm 90° pronation, different positions is followed : shoulder 0° horizontal adduction shoulder 40° horizontal adduction, shoulder 40° horizontal abduction. The One-way repeated ANOVA test was used to determine the different in grip strength on three shoulder horizontal positions. On the average, in the hand grip strength, the horizontal neutral position is higher than horizontal adduction position with significant value. In particular, shoulder horizontal aduction was measured lowest grip strength between three positions.
