  • Reinforcement learning (RL) has been widely used as a learning mechanism of an artificial life system. However, RL usually suffers from slow convergence to the optimum state-action sequence or a sequence of stimulus-response (SR) behaviors, and may not correctly work in non-Markov processes. In this paper, first, to cope with slow-convergence problem, if some state-action pairs are considered as disturbance for optimum sequence, then they no to be eliminated in long-term memory (LTM), where such disturbances are found by a shortest path-finding algorithm. This process is shown to let the system get an enhanced learning speed. Second, to partly solve a non-Markov problem, if a stimulus is frequently met in a searching-process, then the stimulus will be classified as a sequential percept for a non-Markov hidden state. And thus, a correct behavior for a non-Markov hidden state can be learned as in a Markov environment. To show the validity of our proposed learning technologies, several simulation result j will be illustrated.

  • This paper proposes a hierarchical routing algorithm for enhancing survivability of sensor nodes on WSAN. Proposed algorithm has two important parts. The first is a clustering algorithm that uses distance between sensor and actor, and remaining energy of sensor nodes for selecting cluster head. It will induce uniform energy consumption, and this has a beneficial effect on network lifetime. The second is an enhanced routing algorithm that uses the shortest path tree. The energy efficient routing is very important in WSAN which has energy limitation. As a result, proposed algorithm extends network and nodes lifetime through consuming energy efficiently. Simulation results show that the proposed clustering algorithm outperforms conventional routing algorithms such as VDSPT in terms of node and network life time, delay, fairness, and data transmission ratio to BS.

  • This paper considers a two-location production and inventory model for a single product which can be produced and demanded at each of two locations. Demands during a finite number of discrete time periods are known and must be satisfied by production, inventory or transshipment. We consider the change of production capacity. The costs to be incurred are restricted to production, inventory and transshipment costs, and all cost functions we assumed to be concave. The objective is to minimize the total cost of production, inventory and transshipment. The model is formulated as a shortest path problem for an acyclic network from which properties associated with optimal solutions are derived. Using these properties. we develop a dynamic programming algorithm that finds optimal solutions for problems.

  • World Wide Web is nearly ubiquitous and the tremendous growing number of Web information strongly requires a structuring framework by which an overview visualization of Web sites has provided as a visual surrogate for the users. We have a viewpoint that the Web site is a directed graph with nodes and arcs where the nodes correspond to Web pages and the arcs correspond to hypertext links between the Web pages. In dealing with the WWW, the goal in this paper is not to derive a naive shortest path or a fast access method, but to generate an optimal structure based on the context centric weight. We modeled a Web site formally so that a integer programming model can be formulated. Even if changes such as modification of the query terms, the optimized Web site structure can be maintained in terms of sensitivity.

  • A new analytic method is presented for predicting the performance of noise barriers having complicated end shapes like "Y", "T", inverted L, and other shapes. The insertion loss of the barrier is predicted by summation of multiple diffractions occurring at the comer points. Although previous studies treated diffractions occurring only at the convex points, the method presented in this paper considers diffractions at the concave point. As numerical examples, a partially inclined noise barrier and "T" shape noise barrier are studied. It is shown that the diffraction at the concave point may be neglected if the shortest path does not include the concave comer point.

  • Determination of component mounting sequence on printed circuit board assembly process is a typical NP-hard problem. It is a kind of traveling salesman problems, but it has one more hard to meet constraint of matching component type per mounting position as well as searching the shortest path. An efficient method is developed by separation of crowed area and allowing up to two slots per component type. A simulation model is constructed using Visual C++ for evaluation of the suggested heuristic.

  • We suggest a Quasi- dual graph model in consideration of dynamic module assignment and relocation to assign task optimally to two processors that have different processing abilities. An optimal module partitioning and allocation to minimize total processing cost can be achieved by applying shortest-path algorithm with time complexity 0(n2) on this graph model.

  • This study proposes an improved genetic algorithm (GA) to derive solutions for facility layout problems having inner walls and passages. The proposed algorithm models the layout of facilities on a flour-segmented chromosome. Improved solutions are produced by employing genetic operations known as selection, crossover, inversion, mutation, and refinement of these genes for successive generations. All relationships between the facilities and passages are represented as an adjacency graph. The shortest path and distance between two facilities are calculated using Dijkstra's algorithm of graph theory. Comparative testing shows that the proposed algorithm performs better than other existing algorithm for the optimal facility layout design. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied to ship compartment layout problems with the computational results compared to an actual ship compartment layout.

  • This study deals with the problem of information dissemination in a communication network, which is defined to be the process whereby a set of messages, generated by an originator, is transmitted to all the members within the network. Since this type of message generally includes control data to manage the network or global information that all members should know, it is to be required to transmit it to all the members as soon as possible. In this study, it is assumed that a member can either transmit or receive a message and an informed member can transmit it to only one of its neighbors at time. This type of transmission is called 'local broadcasting' Several schemes of call sequencing are designed for a general-type network with nonuniform edge transmission times, and then computer simulations are performed. Some heuristics for information dissemination are proposed and tested. For this, optimal call sequence in a tree-type network, sequencing theory and graph theory are applied. The result shows that call sequencing based on the shortest path tree is the most desirable.
