The purpose of this study was to develop a screening test for children at risk of reading underachievement and to investigate the effectiveness of the early-stage intervention program. In the first part of the study, we recruited 155 elementary first grade students for a screening test. Phonological deletion, digit naming, object naming, and sound-letter correspondence knowledge of a screening test, all assessed at the beginning of the school year, predicted the reading ability at the end of the school year. In the second part of the study, we analyzed the difference in the reading ability between fourteen children who participated in the intervention program and eighteen non-participating children. Reading ability was assessed by evaluating word recognition, oral reading fluency, reading comprehension, and pseudo-word recognition. The reading ability of intervention group improved more compared to control group, and the difference between two groups accentuated over time. However, final analysis conducted in November revealed that two groups did not differ significantly in oral reading fluency. This suggests that, unlike word recognition and comprehension, fluency might not dramatically improve in a short period.

This paper deals with the measurement and analysis of radio characteristic of 424 MHz for using the automation of transmission and supply of electric power, ana automatic meter reading(AMR). Normally radio propagation characteristic is the base of system design, performance evaluation and choice of position of the base station in wireless communication. It is the most accurate way to design a base station through practical measurements, but it costs much time, money and engineers. So, we developed 424 MHz short range wave propagation model for AMR service.

This paper investigates the issue of efficient reading for sensor data of semi-passive sensor tag. The Cold Chain management system requires complete sensor data without data loss and the short processing time of reading sensor tag data. However, reading the sensed data could be interfered by RF environment such as a jamming, obstacle and so on. This study found that it could lead to loss of the sensed data and takes much time to read it when data loss is occurred. To solve this problem, we propose the transaction processing mechanism that guarantees efficient reading of the sensed data. To do this, we present the technique of dynamic packet size and technique of data recovery to execute read transaction. These techniques improve the reliability of reading operation as well as speed up of read process for the large capacity data. This paper contributes to the improvement of efficient reading of sensed data without any loss of data and large time required.
Vibrotactile feedback is widely used in designing non-visual interactions on mobile phones, such as message notification, non-visual reading, and blind use. In this work, novel vibrotactile codes are presented to implement a non-visual text reading system for mobile phones. The 26 letters of the English alphabet are formed in an index table with four rows and seven columns, and each letter is mapped using the codes of vibrations. Two kinds of vibrotactile codes are designed with the actuator's on and off states and with specific lengths (short and long) assigned to each state. To improve the efficiency of tactile perception and user satisfaction, three user experiments are conducted. The first experiment explores the maximum number of continuous vibrations and minimum vibration time of the actuator's on and off states that the human can perceive. The second experiment determines the minimum interval between continuous vibrations. The vibrotactile reading system is designed and evaluated in the third experiment according to the results of the two preceding experiments. Results show that the character reading accuracy reaches 91.7% and the character reading speed is approximately 617.8 ms. Our method has better reading efficiency and is easier to learn than the traditional Braille coding method.
In this study, Korean older adults (70-75 yrs) were divided into two groups according to the degree of reading exposure, and real-time data were collected through a reading eye movement tracking experiment. Then, overall reading patterns and word frequency ef ects were compared with two groups of older adults and younger adults (20-28 yrs). Furthermore, through the results of the eye movement tracking experiment of older adults with rich reading exposure and older adults with poor reading exposure, we tried to find out whether reading performance af ects not only changes in age but also reading exposure. As a result of the experiment, the older adults with poor reading exposure group generally had a longer fixation time and a shorter saccade than the younger adults group, and the older adults with rich reading exposure group showed the same reading patterns as the younger adults group. The word frequency ef ect was confirmed in all groups, and the fixation time was short in the order of older adults with rich reading exposure group and older adults with poor reading exposure group. In addition, an interaction ef ect was shown in the two elderly groups according to reading exposure, but no interaction could be confirmed in the dif erence between the younger adults group and the older adults with rich reading exposure group. This suggests the possibility that reading performance is not af ected by age itself, but by the reading experience of the elderly.

One difficulty in language learning is the training of reading ability. The improvement on this ability directly affects the process and effect of language learning. At the same time, there are numerous difficulties in actual learning and teaching. Depending on current research, there is two ideas that can utilize to enhance the reading efficiency of learners. One is to amend objective factors; the other is to change subjective factors. Compared with the two ideas, idiosyncratic factors are more manipulable and controllable, so it is more valuable to conduct researches on this. But among the many subjective factors, the degree of their effectiveness is not the same, so this article attempts to compare and analyze the driving effects of two important subjective factors (peer-driven and task-driven) on reading performance. The results show that both factors can have a positive impact on reading comprehension, but different in driving effects. The task-driven has obvious short-term effectiveness; while peer-driven needs to establish its long-term effect on the basis of early coordination and cooperation among team members. Therefore, in order to maximize the achievement of learning, it is necessary to combine strengths and avoid weaknesses according to the characteristics of two factors, so as to help learners improve reading ability most efficiently.
In this paper, we present measurement method of the amount of used piped water and the communications environment for automatic piped water meter reading. The existing piped water meter reading which is carried out by the human in person by monitoring the amount of use and recording make the problem of an error of the figure and being short of staffed to carry out piped water meter reading. To solve the existing problem in this paper, the amount of used piped water is converted into data type by Photo Interrupt Sensor, and IEEE 802.15.4 Protocol is used to confirm the measurement in remote place.

This paper describes our high-density near-field optical recording using bent cantilever fiber probes installed in an atomic force microscope. We conducted a near-field reading of nano-scale hole patterns with a 100 nm spatial resolution and a 25 ${\mu}m$/s scan speed; this implies a capability of a data reading density of 60 Gb/$in^2$ with a 0.25 kbps data transfer rate. In addition, we investigated re-writable near-field recording on photochromic diarylethene films. We successfully recorded erasable memory bits having a minimum width of 600 nm in a writing time as short as 30ms. We found that using a cantilever probe simplifies the setup and operation of the near-field optical recording system and may offer multifunctional recording capabilities.

Although LEDs have been used in various applications with improving the brightness and luminous efficacy, the electrical and optical characteristics of high power LED varies at different temperature and starting time. In this paper, optimal heat sink and apparatus design were conducted using IR camera and ICEPAK on the LED bulb consisting with fourteen LED array. The temperatures of heat sink and LED device of the designed LED bulb without cooling pan were $74^{\circ}C\;and\;96.8^{\circ}C$, respectively, showing in good themal characteristics. For high efficiency driving circuit of LED array adopted optimal heat sink design, driving circuits of constant voltage and current circuits were suggested and fabricated. As a result the efficacy of all driving circuits showed more than 20 lm/W. Also, the constant current circuits are suitable for signal lamp, hallway lamp, and flash lamp having short operating time(about 30 min). On the other hand, a reading light and indoor lamp having long operating time can be controlled by constant voltage circuit.
