  • This paper proposes a signal modelling method that can effectively detect the shock wave(SW) sound and muzzle blast(MB) sound from the gunshot of a small arm rifle. In order to localize a counter sniper in battlefield, an accurate detection of both shock wave sound and muzzle blast sound are the necessary keys in estimating the direction and the distance of the counter sniper. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, a real gunshot sound in a domestic military shooting range was recorded and analyzed. From the experimental results, the proposed signal modelling method was found to be superior to the comparative system more than 20% in a shock wave detection and 5% in a muzzle blast detection, respectively.

  • Digital healthcare combined with telemedicine services in the form of convergence with digital technology and AI is developing rapidly. Digital healthcare research is being conducted on many conditions including shock. However, the causes of shock are diverse, and the treatment is very complicated, requiring a high level of medical knowledge. In this paper, we propose a shock detection method based on the correlation between shock and data extracted from hemodynamic monitoring equipment. From the various parameters expressed by this equipment, four parameters closely related to patient shock were used as the input data for a machine learning model in order to detect the shock. Using the four parameters as input data, that is, feature values, a random forest-based ensemble machine learning model was constructed. The value of the mean arterial pressure was used as the correct answer value, the so called label value, to detect the patient's shock state. The performance was then compared with the decision tree and logistic regression model using a confusion matrix. The average accuracy of the random forest model was 92.80%, which shows superior performance compared to other models. We look forward to our work playing a role in helping medical staff by making recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of complex and difficult cases of shock.

  • There are various large shocks in optical disc drive system like human touch and speak sound. In this paper, a nonlinear controller and a detection method are proposed. First, a relay nonlinear controller with dead zone is introduced. The structure of this nonlinear controller is simple and has a small amount of calculation. However, this controller has chattering problem when it is working. We suggest a disturbance detection algorithm using Kalman filter in this paper and it shows effective reduction of chattering. The proposed nonlinear controller using this detection algorithm had good performance for the shock.

  • Three 'stress probe' plasmids were constructed and characterized which utilize a green fluorescent protein (CFP) as a non-invasive reporter to elucidate Escherichia coli cellular stress responses in quiescent or 'resting' cells. Facile detection of cellular stress levels was achieved by fusion of three heat shock stress protein promoter elements, those of the heat shock transcription factor ${\sigma}^{32}$, pretense subunit ClpB, and chaperone DnaK, to the reporter gene $gfp_{uv}$. When perturbed by chemical or physical stress (such as heat shock, nutrient (amino acid) limitation, addition of IPTG, acetic acid, ethanol, phenol, antifoam, and salt (osmotic shock), the E. coli cells produced GFPuv which was easily detected from within the cells as emitted green fluorescence. A temporal and amplitudinal mapping of these responses was performed, demonstrating regions where quantitative delineation of cell stress was afforded.

  • The low speed machinery faults are usually caused by the bearing failure of the rolling elements. As the life time of the bearing is limited, the condition monitoring of bearing is very important to maintain the continuous operation without failures. A few monitoring techniques using time domain, frequency domain and fuzzy neural network vibration analysis are introduced to detect and diagnose the faults of the low speed machinery. This paper presents a method of fault detection for the rolling element bearing in the low speed machinery using the Wiener filtering and shock pulse counting techniques. Wiener filter is used for noise cancellation and it clearly makes the shock pulse emerge from the time signal with the high level of noise. The shock pulse counting is used to determine the various faults obviously from the shock signal with transient pulses not related with the bearing fault. Machine fault simulator is used for the experimental measurement in order to verify this technique is the powerful tool for the low speed machine compared with the frequency analysis. The test results show that the method proposed is very effective parameter even for the signal with high contaminated noise, speed variation and very low energy. The presented method shows the optimal tool for the condition monitoring purpose to detect the various bearing fault with high accuracy.

  • Recently, there have been some researches in the equipment fault detection based on shock and vibration information. Most research of them is based on shock and vibration monitoring to determine the equipment fault or not. Different with engine fault detection based on shock and vibration information we focus on detection of engine for boat and system control. First, it use the duplicated-checking method for shock and vibration information to determine the engine fault or not. If there is a fault happened, we use the integral to determine the error engine shock wave width and detect the fault area. On the other hand, we use the engine trend analysis and standard of safety engine to implement the shock and vibration information database. Our simulation results show that the probability of engine fault determination is 98% and the probability of engine fault detection is 72%

  • The precise detection of electric leakage point of underground power cable is very important to reduce cost and time of maintenance and prevent electric shock accident through expedite repair of electric leakage point. This paper proposes a electric leakage point detection system underground power cable using of half-period modulated transmission waveform and earth electric potential measurement. The developed system is composed of transmitter to generate the wanted pulse waveform, receiver to measure and display earth electric potential by the transmitted pulse in electric leakage point and PC Software program to display of GPS coordinate on detection cable line. The performance of the electric leakage point detection system was tested in the constructed underground cable leakage detection test bed. The test results on signal generation voltage precision of signal transmitter, mean detection earth voltage, mean detection leakage current and electric leakage point detection error showed the developed system can be used in electric leakage point detection underground power cable.

  • In order to use heat shock promoter for the detection of toxic substances, dnaK promoter was amplified from E. coli genomic DNA by using a polymerase chain reaction(PCR) followed by sequencing and sub-cloning into the multi-cloning site of the plasmid, pUCD615. The pUCD615 is a broad-host-range vector containing promoterless lux operon originated from V.fischeri. The recombinant plasmid was transfered to E. coli DH5$\alpha$ through electroporation. The recombinant E. coli showed several patterns of bioluminescent responses to ethanol stress. The bioluminescent E. coli also showed responses to other toxic substances including FeK3(CN)6, CdCl2, p-nitrophenol and HgCl2. The increases of RLU(Relative Light Unit) were observed at 100ppm of FeK3(CN)6, 10ppm and 100ppm and 100ppm of CdCl2, 1ppm of 10ppm of p-nitrophenol and at 1ppm of HgCl2.

  • DC distribution systems has recently taken the spotlight. Concerns over human safety and stability facility are raised in DC distribution systems. Std. IEC 60479 provides basic guidance on "the effects of shock current on human beings and livestock" for use in the establishment of electrical safety requirements and suggests an electrical impedance of the human body. This study analyzes impedance spectrums based on the electrical equivalent impedance circuit for the human body; human body impedances measured by experiments are analyzed below the fundamental frequency (60 Hz). The analysis shows that the equivalent impedance circuit for the human body should be modified at least in low-frequency range below the fundamental frequency (60 Hz). The DC residual current detection method that can classify electric shock accidents of humans and electric leakages of facilities is proposed by applying the analysis result. The detection method is verified by experiments on livestock.

  • Heat shock ($43^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes) is sufficient to induce apoptosis in a wide number of cell lines. In this study, we asked whether DNA strand breaks are responsible for this phenomenon. Using the highly sensitive comet assay for DNA damage detection, we were unable to demonstrate DNA breaks immediately after heat shock in Raji human Iymphoid cells. It showed that DNA breaks were not necessary for hyperthermic apoptosis, since its activity is indicative of DNA lesions. Here, we present a suggestion that a protein(s) is the major target for heat shock apoptosis. We firstly found glycerol, which reportedly stabilizes protein structure, showed a protective effect in Raji cells against hyperthermic apoptosis. In addition, quercetin, which modulates transcription of the heat shock protein family members, enhanced apoptotic death induced by hyperthermia. Furthermore, Raji cells are protected by a pre-mild heat treatment prior to the killing dose of heat shock.
