Study on Simulation Model Generation of a Shipyard Panel Block Shop using a Neutral Data Format for Production Information (생산 정보의 중립 데이터 포맷을 이용한 조선소 판넬 공장의 시뮬레이션 모델 생성에 관한 연구)

  • Production simulation technology is beneficial to solve the complicated and fluctuated problems in a shipyard. It takes too much time and effort to build simulation models in the field, though. This research proposes a feasible method to reduce the difficulties related to simulation modeling for the factory or shop capacity analysis. In addition, a proposed neutral data format for production information is efficient to manage information acquisition for simulation modeling automation. A panel block shop model is contributed to comparison between the conventional technique and the automated one. The automation technique is highly recommended to run a rapid simulation in the shipyard problem.

The Effectiveness of Weaving Motion and Determination of Optimal Heating Condition in Line-heating (선상가열시 위빙방식의 효율성과 최적 가열조건 결정에 관한 연구)

  • Inherent strain method for analyzing deformation of line-heating is substituting experiments of high cost, because of its high accuracy and quickness. Nowadays, the progressing forms of line-heating are not straight moving motions used to traditional studies, but weaving motions which can diversely input heat source. In shipyard, reasons of weaving motions are induction of a special characteristic by water cooling, maximum temperature limitation for keeping plates from melting, and rhythm for workman's maintaining velocity. On this study, a method which can obtain optimal weaving heating condition was presented, some examples were introduced, and the results corresponded to works of shipyard. Lastly, what the specifications of plates on efficiency are is presented, through the quality standard of shipyard and FEM heat transfer simulation. The ultimate purpose of line heating is the automation, so in case of plates which need weaving heating, the optimal heating condition suggested by this study can be used well in designing coil specifications of induction heaters which are heat input sources of new generation.

Optimal Block Lifting Scheduling Considering the Minimization of Travel Distance at an Idle State and Wire Replacement of a Goliath Crane (골리앗 크레인의 공주행 거리와 와이어 교체 최소를 고려한 최적 블록 리프팅 계획)

  • Recently, a shipyard is making every effort to efficiently manage equipments of resources such as a gantry crane, transporter, and so on. So far block lifting scheduling of a gantry crane has been manually performed by a manager of the shipyard, and thus it took much time to get scheduling results and moreover the quality of them was not optimal. To improve this, a block lifting scheduling system of the gantry crane using optimization techniques was developed in this study. First, a block lifting scheduling problem was mathematically formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem, considering the minimization of travel distance at an idle state and wire replacement during block lifting. Then, to solve the problem, a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm based on the genetic algorithm was proposed. To evaluate the efficiency and applicability of the developed system, it was applied to an actual block lifting scheduling problem of the shipyard. The result shows that blocks can be efficiently lifted by the gantry crane using the developed system, compared to manual scheduling by a manager.

  • A shipyard is an Engineer To Order (ETO) company that designs and manufactures new products when orders are placed. Various tasks are concurrently performed, thereby making process management considerably important. It is particularly important to plan and control production activities because production constitutes the largest part of the overall process. Therefore, this study focuses on the development of a production planning system based on an Advanced Planning System (APS). An APS is an integrated planning system that targets supply chain processes in accordance with the principles of hierarchical planning. In this study, a Supply Chain Planning Matrix (SCP-Matrix), which is used as a guideline for APS development, is designed through analysis of shipyard cases. Then, we define the process in detail, starting from long-term production plan as the initial application, and design and implement a long-term production planning system using a component-based development.

Deployment Planning of Blocks from Storage Yards Using a Tabu Search Algorithm (타부서치 알고리즘을 이용한 적치장의 블록 반출계획)

  • At a shipyard, the efficient handling of blocks is one of the most important factors in the shipbuilding process. We consider the problem of deployment planning of blocks from storage yards. As some information of block arrangement should be considered to handle the problem, we adopt the block arrangement based on the coordinates and sizes of each block at a storage yard. Deployment planning for a block involves deciding upon its transportation route from the storage yard and searching for blocks that would obstruct its transportation along this route. A tabu search algorithm for deploying several blocks is developed to minimize the number of obstructive blocks deployed together from the storage yards at a shipyard. The results of computational experiments show that the developed algorithm is very useful in the deployment planning of multiple blocks from the storage yards.

  • Digital Manufacturing-based production could be very effective in shipbuilding in order to save costs and time, to increase safety for workers, and to prevent bottleneck processes in advance. Digital shipbuilding system, a simulation-based production tool, is being developed to achieve such aspects in Korea. To simulate material flow in a subassembly line at a shipyard, the product, process and resources was modeled for the subassembly process which consisted of several sub-processes such as tack welding, piece alignment, tack welding, and robot welding processes. The analysis and modeling were carried out by using the UML(Unified Modeling Language), an object-oriented modeling method as well as IDEF(Integration DEFinition), a functional modeling tool. Initially, the characteristics of the shop resources were analyzed using the shipyard data, and the layout of the subassembly line was designed with the resources. The production process modeling of the subassembly lines was performed using the discrete event simulation method. Using the constructed resource and process model, the productivity and efficiency of the line were investigated. The number of workers and the variations In the resource performance such as that of a new welding robot were examined to simulate the changes in productivity. The bottleneck process floated according to the performance of the new resources. The proposed model was viewed three-dimensionally in a digital environment so that interferences among objects and space allocations for the resources could be easily investigated

  • Even though Korea is No.1 shipbuilding country around the world, there have been a lot of accident and man-made calamity incurring in shipyards these days. Therefore most of Korea major shipyard and mid-small size shipyard deeply agonize about safety management countermeasure. As a result of it, many shipyards pour their effort on developing man watching system, PF wireless communication system, portable measuring system to prevent from accident such as fire, suffocation incurring. In this paper, analyze conventional accident & man-made calamity preventing system adopted by most of shipyard and enable the user to watch accident for 24 hours and notify it to user when it is incurring through state of the art ICT technology. And as a result of it the user can prevent the accident and man-made calamity at the beginning.

A Simple Paint Thickness Estimation Model in Shipyard Spray Painting

  • This paper aims to develop a model to estimate the paint thickness in a shipyard spray painting according to changes of spraying distance and speed. We acquired the experimental datasets of five different conditions with respect to the spraying distance and speed using a painting robot. In addition, we applied a preprocessing step to handle noises which might be caused by various reasons such as a nozzle damage. Our method is to transform a thickness function of a specified spraying distance and speed into another function of an unknown spraying and speed. We observed that the proposed method shows more stable and more accurate predictions compared with an artificial neural network-based approach.

  • This paper implements many-to-many communication between users and develops a multi-functional smart helmet for worker protection and environmental safety in the shipbuilding and shipping industry. First, the communication situation is recorded in the field to perform signal processing for noise that interferes with communication. Then, it deals with the contents of developing smart helmets, data acquisition, algorithms, and simulations. The simulation results analyzed by applying the adaptive algorithm are shown, and their usefulness is confirmed. In conclusion, looking at the optimization process for the convergence factor of the Least Mean Square and Filtered-x Least Mean Square Adaptation Algorithm was possible. It is thought that it has laid the foundation for implementing many-to-many communication, the function of smart helmets that reduces or removes various noises at the shipyard in the future.

Spatial and Vertical Distribution of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Sediment of the Shipyard Area in Gohyeon Bay (고현만 조선소 주변해역 퇴적물내 다환방향족탄화수소의 시공간적 분포특성)

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), one of ubiquitous organic pollutants in marine environments, are major toxic components of petroleum and are produced during the incomplete combustion of organic materials. As shipyards are located inside of natural or artificial semi-enclosed bay, even a relatively weak environmental disturbance by ship-building activity can cause severe damage to marine ecosystem in the bay. Many studies of pollution in shipyard area have been focused on the antifouling agent, like tributyltin. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ship-building activity on PAH contamination. Total PAHs concentration was higher nearby and inside shipyard area than outside, implying that shipyard could be one of major source area of PAH contamination to pose harmful effects to surrounding environments. Through PAH profile and source recognition index, the source of PAHs inputs in this area was estimated to originate from both petrogenic and pyrogenic origin. PAH levels showed a significant correlation with total butyltins, indicating that ship-building activity influenced PAH concentration and distribution. Vertical distribution of PAHs historically confirmed the correlation between shipbuilding activity and PAHs contamination.
