Motion and sloshing analysis for new concept of offshore storage unit

  • New concept of LNG-FPSO ship with moonpool and bilge step in bottom is considered and investigated in the point of motion reduction and sloshing phenomena of the cargo and operation tanks. The cargo capacity of the ship of which principle dimensions is L x B x D x t(design) =270.0 x 51.0 x 32.32 x 13.7(m) 16K at 98% loading condition. The two moonpools and rectangular step at bilge part are setted up specially for getting the effect of motion decrease. For the motion analysis, linearized three dimensional diffraction theory with the simplified boundary conditions is used. The six-degree of freedom coupled motion responses are calculated for the LNG-FPSO ship. Viscous effects on the roll motion responses of a vessel are taken into account in this calculation program using an empirical formula suggested by Ikeda, Himeno and Tanaka is used. The case study for the moonpool size had been carried out by theoretical estimation and experimental method. For the optimization of the moonpool size and effect of the step, 9 cases of its size and with and without step are considered. From the results of calculation and experiment, it can be concluded that this designed LNG-FPSO ship have possibility to carry out her missions in the rough sea as for the owner's demand waves condition. The motion responses, especially roll motion, for the designed LNG-FPSO ship are much lower than those of another drillship and shuttle tanker and limit criterions are satisfied. For the check of the cargo tank and operation tank sizes we have performed sloshing analysis in the irregular waves which focuses on the pressure distribution on the tank wall and the time history of pressure and free surface for No.2 and No5. tanks of LNG-FPSO with chamfers. Finally we got the tank size which has no resonance and no impact pressure in all filling in the bow quartering and beam sea.

  • 여러 자료에 따르면 우리나라에도 정확한 수는 알 수 없지만 상당량의 보물선이 침몰되어 있을 것으로 추정된다. 이에 최근 우리나라 영해에서 보물선 탐사작업이 활발히 이루어지고 있다 몇 건의 문화재 관련 발굴 사례 이외에는 아직까지 뚜렷한 성과가 없지만 앞으로 계속적인 발굴작업으로 인하여 보물선 발굴 사례의 가능성은 크다고 볼 수 있다. 이에 만약 침몰선을 인양했을 경우에 발생되는 법적인 문제들과 그 절차들, 그리고 침몰선의 소유권과 관련한 국내법적 문제 및 해결방법들과 국제법적 문제 및 해결방법들에 대해서 살펴보고 현재 존재하는 법시스템의 몇가지 문제점을 제시하고자 한다.

  • 본 연구는 Fuzzy-AHP방법을 활용하여 세계 주요선사의 선박투자 전략을 비교분석하는 것을 연구의 목적으로 하였다. 선박투자요인은 선행연구를 통해 1차적으로 선정한 후, 해운선사 근무경력 15년 이상의 전문가와 심층 인터뷰(Indepth-Inerview)를 수행하였다. 전문가의 지식추출이 가능한 Fuzzy-AHP를 사용하여 최종적으로 선박투자요인에 대한 가중치를 산정하였다. 선행연구에서 제시한대로 선사들을 "시황흐름 무관 선박투자" 형, "시황상승기 이전 선박투자" 형, "과다발주에 동참 후 시황하락" 형, "시황상승기 선박투자 회피" 형으로 분류하여 선박투자 전략을 비교분석하였다. 분석결과, "시황흐름 무관 선박투자" 형의 선박투자 우선순위는 해운운임(0.132), 중고선가(0.121), 선복량(0.103), "시황상승기 이전 선박투자" 형의 선박투자 우선순위는 해운운임(0.134), 선주여건(0.113), 정책금융기관의 지원(0.109)이 중요요인으로 분석되었다. "과다발주에 동참 후 시황하락" 형의 선박투자 우선선위는, 해운운임(0.173), 선복량(0.169), 국제정세 변화(0.121), "시황상승기 선박투자 회피" 형의 경우 해운운임(0.293), 선복량(0.232), 유가(0.150)가 중요한 요인으로 분석되었다.

A Case Study on the Failure of Intake and Exhaust Valves for Marine Diesel Engines

  • Any failure of intake and exhaust valves of marine diesel engine must be regarded as serious, and any steps which can be taken to prevent such failure are desirable. The purposes of this study is to investigate and to analyse the failure causes of intake and exhaust valves for marine diesel engine during sea trial after completion of overhauling. In this study, to analyse the failure causes, we have carried out on board inspection, fractography test and discussion based on the specimen and repairing report provided by the ship owner. From the results of above inspection, test and discussion, it has been considered reasonable to conclude that the causes of damaged valves of the ship are as follow ; 1) During operation, the stick or seizure of valve spindle occurred and hence the movement of exhaust valve spindle was to be resisted and subsequently the engine was to be operated under an unappropriated valve timing and the exhaust valve sustained the repeated loads exceeding the fatigue strength of valve material. 2) By the loads above described, the fatigue fracture was initiated at the structural noncontinuous part of exhaust valve spindle, and then the valve head was finally fractured and dropped in the cylinder. 3) The fractured exhaust valve head impacted the intake valve at various direction to be bent or damaged.

조선산업의 HSE 관리 정보전략계획 (Information Strategic Planning of HSE Management in the Shipbuilding Industry)

  • Shipbuilding is basically labor-intensive industry. It creates a number of job opportunities, but it is classified as a high risk industry like the construction industry. Shipyards show similarities in many aspects compared with the construction sites. There are many stakeholders of the HSE managements in the shipbuilding industry, such as ship owner, primary contractor and multi-layered subcontractors. The ship owners who are almost foreigners are treating strictly about safety and health. Therefore, it is necessary to development an appropriate HSE management systems and for the management systems it is desirable to information technology (IT) to accommodate these complex and complicated problems and situations. It was developed the ISP (Information Strategic Planning) as a HSE management system for the shipbuilding industry. It consisted of the environment analysis, the As-Is analysis and the To-Be design. In this study, the ISP is introduced and further it is suggested that it should be connected to system of HR(Human resource), PM(Plant maintenance) and KM(Knowledge Management) to make the HSE management system efficient.

  • Recently the concentration of fine dust and ultra fine dust becomes so bad, which seriously threatens the health and even the life of people. So, government started to investigate several ways to reduce the amount of fine dust and ultra fine dust. From a few years ago it has been known that ships anchored at port emit a lot of pollution and seriously affect air quality of neighboring cities. To reduce the pollution emitted by ship AMP (Alternative Maritime Power Supply) has been proposed, which uses the electricity instead of bunker C oil or diesel. Many developed countries already installed AMP to improve air quality in port area. Korea is in the stage of planning to install AMP at port. However, there are many complicated problems to be handled before AMP installation. Due to huge initial cost and long period of construction ship owner and habour operating company are reluctant to AMP installation. And there are serious technological difficulties in constructing AMP in existing harbour. Lack of AMP core technology and operational difficulties of AMP are also big challenges to be conquered. In this study SWOT/AHP method is used to find strategic and efficient ways to handle above complicated challenges and then to vitalize the AMP installation.

  • Generally, ships have marks of various shapes on outside of the hull. Among them, so called "Draft Mark" indicates the distance from the bottom of the keel to the waterline. Draft marks are used to determine the displacement and other properties of the ship for stability and control purposes. These marks are made up of welding bead or sticking the steel plate on outside of the hull. To improve the confidence level of the ship owner, quality and accuracy of the draft mark is very important. So the automatic mark welding robot is used to enable a high quality and accurate manufacturing line. To improve the system portability, the system is divided into two distinct parts, namely mechanical part and control part. Mechanical part is robust, a lightweight, and easy to dismantle. The control part consists of an in-house developed controller, which is based on embedded Linux. Also, the control part consists of power line communication module to ensure the applicability of the controller in manufacturing line. In this paper, the methodologies of control and configuration of the robot are discussed.

속력시운전 데이터 계측 및 분석 시스템 개발 (On the Development of Speed Trial Data Measurement and Processing System)

  • 본 연구에서는 개인용 컴퓨터와 신호변환기를 사용한 데이터 취득 및 분석 시스템을 개발하였다. 선박의 속력시운전시 계측되는 축마력, 축회전수, 선속등의 데이터는 여러가지 요인에 의해 변동폭이 크기 때문에 시운전이 수행되는 동안의 어느 한 순간의 값을 대표값으로 할 수가 없다. 변동폭이 큰 데이터의 대표값을 얻기 위하여 본 고에서는 이동평균 개념을 도입하였으며 이동평균값이 변하는 추이도 실시간 그래프로 보여준다. 현재는 8 채널 데이터를 동시에 처리할 수 있고, 분석된 데이터의 저장 및 프린트도 가능하다. 프로그램은 윈도우 환경에서 개발되어 사용자의 편리를 도모하고 향후의 확장이 쉽도록 하였다. 개발된 시스템은 속력시운전 뿐만 아니라 다른 분야-선박의 조종시험시 주요 데이터의 변하는 추이를 기록, 엔진의 헌팅문제의 검사, 진동의 스펙트럼 분석 등-에도 유용하며 이들 분야에 대한 실선에서의 적용 예를 보였다.

항해용선계약에서 체박손해금에 관한 사례연구: 국내 판결을 중심으로 (A Case Study on Damage for Detention in Voyage Charter: Focused on the Judgment in Korea)

  • Freight charges are one of the major clauses in the voyage charter. However, in case of unexpected delays at loading and discharging ports, the owner of the ship would not be willing to cover the various costs he should bear by paying the freight receives from the charterer. Therefore, the shipowner, whose time and the ship would be both considered to be an expense, would try to reduce the laytime as least as possible when signing the charter party and to receive compensation such as demurrage and damage for detention from the charterer, just waiting for the agreed laytime to pass. In this study, we review the differences between demurrage and damage for detention and examine the acknowledgeable circumstances through the actual cases. Since the shipowner and the charterer do not often agree on the damage for detention from the respective contract, it is necessary to examine each. Besides, the shipowner and the charterer must acquaint the damage for detention and specify in a contract, to compensate for the actual loss of the shipowner.
