In Designing a Small Ship, the Design of the Trim for Sailing has a great influence on the Stability of the Ship as well as Resistance. The Center of Gravity of a Ship is mostly determined during Initial Design. This Study confirms the Effect of Trim on changes in Vertical Center of Gravity by Numerical Analysis for a Small Catamaran. The Results were examined in a Model test. However, No Model tests were conducted while varying the changes in Vertical Center of Gravity. Nonetheless, Investigation was completed for the Purpose of presenting Vertical Center of Gravity results according to plans for the Trim during Initial Design of a Small Ship. In order to verify the Results of Numerical Analysis, a Comparison with Experimental results was carried out. Alternation of Trim angle and Resistance performance according to changes in the Center of Gravity were studied.

The specific goal of the SMS (Ship Management System) is to increate ship safety and decrease maintenance fee. Equipment of ship is managed by PMS (Planned Management System), subsystem of SMS. But hull has not managed by ship manager. So, the Classes have developed the system for hull maintenance. Recently, the ship maintenance system has been developed for satisfying operator's requirements such as managing maintenance data as integrated platform, intuitive manipulation and design for ease of use. To reflect such requirement, 3D Model based maintenance system was introduced for ship in operation stage. Hull items that have to be inspected, repaired, replaced, are stored in integrated data platform with drawing, reports, and etc. and completely linked to 3D product Model. This system is specially developed for measurement and maintenance of hull thickness.

In this paper, the resistance characteristics of high-speed ship are studied in the region of shallow water condition. For the purpose of this research, model tests in a ship model basin are carried out with an equipment for the satisfaction of shallow water condition, and the computions of wave resistance characteristics and the flow simulations around a ship hull are performed by Michell's thin ship theory and a finite difference method based on MAC scheme, respectively. The calculation results for the resistance and flow characteristics of a ship hull are compared with those from the model tests in deep and shallow water conditions. From the comparison results, it is known that the variation of wave pattern around a ship hull caused by shallow water condition has the most influence to the resistance characteristics of a high-speed ship advancing on shallow water.

Ship engine rooms have improved automation systems owing to the advancement of technology. However, there are many variables at sea, such as wind, waves, vibration, and equipment aging, which cause loosening, cutting, and leakage, which are not measured by automated systems. There are cases in which only one engineer is available for patrolling. This entails many risk factors in the engine room, where rotating equipment is operating at high temperature and high pressure. When the engineer patrols, he uses his five senses, with particular high dependence on vision. We hereby present a preliminary study to implement an engine-room patrol robot that detects and informs the machine room while a robot patrols the engine room. Images of ship engine-room equipment were classified using a convolutional neural network (CNN). After constructing the image dataset of the ship engine room, the network was trained with a pre-trained CNN model. Classification performance of the trained model showed high reproducibility. Images were visualized with a class activation map. Although it cannot be generalized because the amount of data was limited, it is thought that if the data of each ship were learned through transfer learning, a model suitable for the characteristics of each ship could be constructed with little time and cost expenditure.
4S (Ship to Ship, Ship to Shore) communication is the key to strategic development of e-navigation, a core element of IT vessel convergence. 4S communication is intended to integrate and standardize various communication infrastructures on land and communication equipment complying with communication equipment equipped in ships. This paper aims to apply the Korean technology IEEE 802.16e adopted as an international standard, to replace and compensate for existing vessel communication media such as low speed HF/MF/VHF to the ocean environment. To this end, various experimental conditions between the coast station where a relay station was installed and related equipment equipped on a ship are set. Communication signals were monitored and the RSSI and CINR were measured. Based on experimental analysis and results, various challenges and solutions which may occur in ocean environment were sought, and communication availability was analyzed through transmission data throughput, at the maximum effective distance range of the signal. It was proven that high speed multimedia data could be exchanged for up to 20 km even among 80km kph ships moving around near the sea, ensuring that this technology could be applied to the ocean environment.

This paper is a study on the modeling of the quantity estimation model for offshore plant Material handling equipment in FEED(Front End Engineering Design) verification stage using system engineering approach which is an engineering design methods. The relevant engineering execution procedure is not systemized although the operation method and Material handling equipment selection with weight and space constraints is a key part of the FEED. Using the system engineering process, the stakeholder requirements analysis process, the system requirements analysis, and the final system architecture design were sequentially performed, and the process developed through the functional development diagram and Requirement traceability matrix (RTM) was verified. In addition, based on the established process, we propose a Material handling quantity estimation model and Quantity calculation verification Table that can be applied at the FEED verification stage and we verify the applicability through case studies.

In order to improve productivity of large container ship construction, large heat input and/or high productive welding technologies are necessary. This can be achieved by the joint research and cooperation among steel maker, welding consumable company, welding equipment company and ship yards. Two electrodes SAW process is effective the plate butt welding and partial joint welding, while FGB welding process is for the connection of block to block joint. The higher strength and thicker steel is developed, the more reliable welding procedure such as two electrodes EGW including light weight welding equipment should be developed.

Ships and off-shore plants have very long lifecycles. Design data of ships and off-shore plants are used as master data in the subsequent phases after the design phase. Therefore, it is an important issue how to convert native design data generated from commercial shipbuilding CAD systems into neutral data with the use of international industrial data standards. International standard-based exchange of ship outfitting and off-shore plant data needs the construction of a library for specifications data of equipment and materials and the provision of external referencing mechanism for retrieving data stored in the library. This paper proposes an approach to construct a specifications data library with the use of ISO 15926 process plants. This library is used for providing specifications data through external referencing when translating ship outfitting data from TRIBON system into ISO 10303 STEP AP 227-formed data.

Ice accretions on the ship equipment and areas are the most common issues for vessels operating in cold climate and ice-covered waters and it has effect on the vessel safety and operability of equipment and systems, thus ship machineries and structures exposed to low temperature environments should satisfy the winterization requirements specified in ice class rules. The main objective of this study is to review the state-of-the-art of winterization trend for vessels navigating in ice-covered waters. The hazard of icing and how ice accretions affect operations and safety are investigated firstly, and then winterized notations for each classification are summarized. In addition, winterization methods currently used in vessels operating in ice-covered waters are investigated for a better understanding of effective approach and its application. This information will provide a framework for future winterization issues to mitigate the ice accretion phenomena.
