  • A floating crane is a crane-mounted ship and is used to assemble or to transport heavy blocks in shipyards. In this paper, the static and dynamic response of a floating crane and a heavy block that are connected using elastic booms and wire ropes are described. The static and dynamic equations of surge, pitch, and heave for the system are derived on the basis of flexible multibody system dynamics. The equations of motion are fully coupled and highly nonlinear since they involve nonlinear mass matrices, elastic stiffness matrices, quadratic velocity vectors, and generalized external forces. A floating frame of reference and nodal coordinates are employed to model the boom as a flexible body. The nonlinear hydrostatic force, linear hydrodynamic force, wire-rope force, and mooring force are considered as the external forces. For numerical analysis, the Hilber-Hughes-Taylor method for implicit integration is used. The dynamic responses of the cargo are analyzed with respect to the results obtained by static and numerical analyses.

  • Ship detection at sea can be performed in various ways. In particular, satellites can provide wide-area surveillance, and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery can be utilized day and night and in all weather conditions. To propose an efficient ship detection method from SAR images, this study aimed to apply the You Only Look Once Version 5 (YOLOv5) model to Sentinel-1 images and to analyze the difference between individual vs. integrated models and the accuracy characteristics by polarization. YOLOv5s, which has fewer and lighter parameters, and YOLOv5x, which has more parameters but higher accuracy, were used for the performance tests (1) by dividing each polarization into HH, HV, VH, and VV, and (2) by using images from all polarizations. All four experiments showed very similar and high accuracy of 0.977 ≤ AP@0.5 ≤ 0.998. This result suggests that the polarization integration model using lightweight YOLO models can be the most effective in terms of real-time system deployment. 19,582 images were used in this experiment. However, if other SAR images, such as Capella and ICEYE, are included in addition to Sentinel-1 images, a more flexible and accurate model for ship detection can be built.

  • The -advent of electronic navigation equipment and trustworthy computer which provides people with convenience made the management system by one-man bridge operation or the least people who are needed possible through the integration of communication network with various navigation equipment and related institution. One of the most needed ultra-modem navigation device for a mate, ECDIS is a core equipment for navigation in ENS that notifies peril to mate as well as supervises all tasks in hydrographical chart, voyage planning, course monitoring and voyage recording. We should make coast and ocean voyage planning first, for the secure navigation which is considering the course circumstances and next, for the reduction of voyage dates in economical aspect. There needs a thoughtful consideration about the feature of the ship itself and the course with weather condition in taking up the course and also we have to take into accounts about appropriate distance between ships. Considering the essential conditions of ECDIS the indispensable device in the future, it was developed the basic principle for voyage planning algorithm for officer and programmed to real implementation available. In this paper including most of the requirements in ECDIS performance standard I mentioned about such a basic and a core Principle with real application by using the Visual C++ programming language. The voyage plan includes the function that indicate and modifies all the way points in the course from department port to arrival port with erasing the wrong way points. Also, it provides in a document form that shows ETA at glance in average speed sailing.

  • At present Content Management Systems (CMS) with various and diverse web contents have been in wide applications. But, for CMS of each enterprise has its own metadata which is very different from others, it causes the serious problem of web contents repetition. Also, it's a difficult technology to support protecting copyright of web contents which are in separated CMSs. Therefore, in this paper, we solved the problem of contents repetition through metadata integration between mutually heterogeneous CMSs. We also propose the technology of web contents authentication code for avoiding contents repetition and applying digital rights protection by supporting safe ship in vast quantity of contents.

  • As the suitability of berth allocation will ultimately have a significant influence on the performance of a berth, a great deal of attention should be given to berth allocation. Generally, a berth allocation problem has conflicting factors between servers and users. In addition, there is uncertainty in great extent caused by various factors such as departure delay, inclement weather on route, poor handling equipment, a lack of storage space, and other factors contribute to the uncertainty of arrival and berthing time. Thus, it is necessary to establish berth allocation planning which reflects the positions of interested parties and the ambiguity of parameters. For this, a berth allocation problem is formulated by fuzzy 0-1 integer programming introducing the concept of maximum Position Shift(MPS). But, the above approach has limitations in terms of computational time and computer memory when the size of problem is increased. It also has limitations with respect to the integration of other sub-systems such as ship planning system and yard planning system. For solving such problem, this paper focuses particularly on developing an efficient heuristic algorithm as a new technique of getting an effective solution. And also the suggested algorithm is verified through the illustrative examples and empirical appalicaton to BCTOC.

  • When the 60-ton-class patrol boat '72' of the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) was on duty and she accidentally collided with another patrol boat ('207', 200-ton-class) and sank. A month-long search found a small amount of lost items, but neither the crew nor the ship was found. For the first time in 39 years since the accident, the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) searched the boat 72 using the latest integrated geophysical techniques. A number of sonar images presumed to be of a sunken ship was acquired using a combined system of side scan sonar and marine magnetometer, operated at an altitude of approximately 30 m from the seabed. At the same time, a strong magnetic anomaly (100 nT) was detected in one place, indicating the presence of an iron ship. A video survey using a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) confirmed the presence of a shielding part of a personal firearm at the stern of the sunken vessel. Based on these comprehensive data, the sunken vessel discovered in this exploration was assumed to be '72'. This result is meaningful in terms of future ocean exploration and underwater archaeology, as the integrated system of various geophysical methods is an efficient means of identifying objects present in the water.

  • The design of large complex mechanical systems, such as automobile, aircraft, and ship, is a kind of Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) because it requires both experience and expertise in many areas. With the rapid development of technology and the demand to improve human convenience, the complexity of these systems is increasing further. The design of such a complex system requires an integrated system design, i.e., MDO, which can fuse not only domain-specific knowledge but also knowledge, experience, and perspectives in various fields. In the past, the MDO relied heavily on the designer's intuition and experience, making it less efficient in terms of accuracy and time efficiency. Process integration and the design optimization framework mainly support MDO owing to the evolution of IT technology. This paper examined the procedure and methods to implement an efficient MDO with reasonable effort and time using RCE, an open-source PIDO framework. As a benchmarking example, the authors applied the proposed MDO methodology to a bulk carrier's conceptual design synthesis model. The validity of this proposed MDO methodology was determined by visual analysis of the Pareto optimal solutions.

  • A moving surface vessel generates a ship wake which contains a cloud of micro-bubbles with radii ranging between $8{\sim}200{\mu}m$. Such micro-bubbles can be detected by active sonar system for more than ten minutes depending on the size and speed of the surface vessel. In this paper, a reverberation model for the ship wake is presented. The developed model consists of the acoustic scattering model due to the distribution of the micro-bubbles and the kinematic model for the moving active sonar. The acoustic scattering model is based on the volume integration, where the volume scattering strengths are obtained from the spatial distribution of micro-bubbles. Since the directivity and look-direction of active sonar are important factors for moving active sonar, the kinematic model utilizes the Euler transformation to obtain the relative motion between the global and local coordinates. In order to verify the developed model, a series of sea experiment was executed in September 2007 to obtain the spatial-temporal distribution of a bubble cloud, and analyzed to be compared with the simulation results.

  • One of the major technology issues in the ship production processes is the curved hull forming process that is a bottle neck and performed by experienced workers. In order to automate the curved hull forming process, there are a lot of attempts to develop the automation system by many shipbuilding companies and academic labs. However they have some problems which put the developed system in the difficulties to be used and maintained in the yard. In this paper, the problems are formed and solved by using tailored Systems Engineering Process which consists of four steps, those are requirement definition, system design, implementation of subsystem and components, and system integration and verification. A prototype for the proposed system development methodology is implemented. From the consideration of the prototype implemented, it is verified that this methodology can be an alternative to solve the problems.

  • Anti-Air Warfare(AAW) functionality of the naval combat system is the key functionality to ensure the ship's survivability. We have applied a novel method using model-based-simulation to analyze and design AAW functionality of the Patrol Killer Experimemnt Combat System. In this approach, an AAW functional model is described with the FSM(Finite State Machine) and directly executed for the AAW simulation. After prototyping using model based simulation, Hardware In Loop Simulation(HILS) is conducted as the AAW functionality is interfaced with the other ones of the combat system for completing the integration of the system components. This incremental and iterative development approach based on the model based simulation can minimize the development risks and costs caused by the system complexity for military system, bringing out the merit of the rapid prototyping.
