A Supervisor-Based Neural-Adaptive Shift Controller for Automatic Transmissions Considering Throttle Opening and Driving Load

  • Recently, many passenger cars have adopted automatic transmissions for shifting gears, and thus the smooth and precise control of gear shifts of passenger car automatic transmissions has become more and more essential for the riding comfort of vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. In this article, a neural network-based supervisor for an automotive shift controller considering the throttle opening, variations in throttle opening, and the driving load is presented. For using the driving load information, an observer-based driving load estimation algorithm is proposed. A proportional-integral-derivative controller along with an open loop controller is used as a low level controller for controlling the gear shifts, and a supervisory controller for properly adapting the shift control parameters of the low level shift controller is designed using ANFIS. To evaluate the control performance of the proposed supervisor-based shift controller, both simulation studies and experimental studies are performed for various shifting situations.

  • This paper proposes a control methodology for a high efficiency operation of an inductive power transfer (IPT) converter by combining full bridge (FB) and half bridge (HB) controls. To apply the proposed control to the IPT converter, the characteristics of each control method are analyzed. By examining the output voltages of the IPT converter and a theoretical loss analysis, the control shifting points between FB and HB controls are evaluated in accordance with the coupling coefficients and the load. Based on the control shifting points, the FB-HB control algorithm is implemented. By applying FB-HB control, high efficiency operation at the light load condition can be achieved.

  • A forklift (also called a lift truck) is a powered industrial truck that is used to lift and transport materials. It has become an indispensable piece of equipment in manufacturing and warehousing operations. The modem forklift is equipped with automatic transmission to meet the requirement of loading and easy operation of the vehicle. This paper proposes the design of TECU(Transmission Electronic Control Unit) which is applied to PSD322-Axle transmission. Garofalo's control technique is generally used to the automatic transmission. We consider the work quality and market requirement that does not want to control engine throttle. This paper proposes new controller system which guarantees efficient speed changes with simple system. This new system does not control the engine throttle spontaneously. But it has the load of engine and vehicle as a maximum disturbance. The scope of the disturbance is limited to the stoll area of the torque converter. This paper proposes a ideal control commander that converges relative velocity of the input and ouput of a clutch into a zero. We design linear controller to execute the idea control commander. We applied the control algorithm to the forklift of PSD322-Axle type and the performance of this controller was verified.

  • An automotive automatic transmission is a popular power-transmitting device in passenger vehicles, as it provides various speed ratios for diverse driving conditions with easy manipulation and smooth gear shifting. The transmission is mainly composed of input and output shafts, planetary gear sets, brakes/clutches, and housing, and it yields multiple forward gears and one reverse gear by actuating the shifting devices of the brakes and clutches. In developing a new transmission, kinematic configurations of a transmission, which presents a brief structure and actuation schemes for speed ratios, need to be checked to determine if the structure can be assembled in a layout. It is impossible for a transmission concept having any interference in connecting main components to be developed further in the design process, since connection interference leads to failure of a layout design in the 2-D plane. In this research, an analysis of the assemblability of a front-wheel drive automatic transmission is carried out on an example concept design by applying the vertex addition algorithm based on graph theory.

Development of a muon detector based on a plastic scintillator and WLS fibers to be used for muon tomography system

  • Muon tomography is a useful method for monitoring special nuclear materials (SNMs) such as spent nuclear fuel inside dry cask storage. Multiple Coulomb scattering of muons can be used to provide information about the 3-dimensional structure and atomic number(Z) of the inner materials. Tomography using muons is less affected by the shielding material and less harmful to health than other measurement methods. We developed a muon detector for muon tomography, which consists of a plastic scintillator, 64 long wavelength-shifting (WLS) fibers attached to the top of the plastic scintillator, and silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) connected to both ends of each WLS fiber. The muon detector can acquire X and Y positions simultaneously using a position determination algorithm. The design parameters of the muon detector were optimized using DETECT2000 and Geant4 simulations, and a muon detector prototype was built based on the results. Spatial resolution measurement was performed using simulations and experiments to evaluate the feasibility of the muon detector. The experimental results were in good agreement with the simulation results. The muon detector has been confirmed for use in a muon tomography system.

양자화와 DC 계수를 이용한 연성 워터마크 시스템 (Fragile Watermark System using Quantization and DC Coefficients)

  • 디지털 도메인에서 이미지나 비디오의 수정 및 합성은 매우 용이하다. 경우에 따라 주어진 이미지나 비디오가 진품인지를 확인해야 하는데, 전문가들의 경우 눈으로도 확인 할 수 있는 길이 있지만 그리 쉬운 것은 아니다. 게다가 손상된 부분을 정확히 찾아 복구해야 하는 일은 전문가에게도 불가능한 일이다. 이러한 응용분야에 적용할 수 있는 것이 연성 워터마킹(Fragile Watermarking) 기술로 원본이 어떠한 형태로든 변형된 경우 워터마크(Watermark)를 검출 할 수 없게 하는 방법이다. 즉, 워터마크가 검출 되었다는 것은 워터마크가 삽입된 후 아무 손상이 가지 않은 독착성(originality)이라 할 수 있을 것이다. 실제 응용분야에서 JPEG과 같은 손실 압축은 종종 허용 또는 필요함으로 인증방법은 이미지 Shifting, Cropping, Filtering 그리고 Replacement 등의 악의적인 변형과 구분되어야 한다. 따라서 제안하는 알고리즘은 JPEG 압축에는 강인한 이미지 인증을 보이며, 다른 악의적인 변형에는 워터마크가 쉽게 깨지는 Fragile Watermarking 알고리즘을 구현한다.

영점검출을 이용한 광섬유형 전자 스페클 패턴 간섭계의 위상이동 (Phase-Shifting System Using Zero-Crossing Detection for use in Fiber-Optic ESPI)

  • 본 논문에서는 광섬유형 전자 스페클 패턴 간섭계에 적용할 효과적인 위상이동 방법을 제안한다. 광섬유 마이켈슨 간섭계에 4$\pi$ 위상변조를 주기적으로 가하면서 각각 $\pi$의 위상차이를 갖는 4개의 영점위치를 검출하여 CCD 카메라의 이미지 취득신호를 생성한다. 이 신호에 따라 얻어지는 스페클 패턴은 위상추출 과정에 필요한 $\pi$/2 위상차이를 갖게 되며 후처리를 통하여 측정 대상체의 3차원적인 표면 위상정보를 얻게 된다. 환경적인 외란에 비하여 충분히 빠른 위상변조를 가할 경우 귀환제어 없이 빠르고 정확하게 $\pi$/2 위상 이동에 따른 CCD 동작신호를 생성할 수 있었으며, 위상변조기의 비선형적인 동작특성에 영향 받지 않는 실험결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 실험을 통하여 100 Hz의 영상 취득 속도를 얻었고, 25 Hz의 위상변조를 가할 때 출력 위상계단 신호의 오차는 0.6 mrad이었다.

  • In this study, a neural network algorithm through a data standardization method was developed to discriminate the phase-shifted partial discharge(PD) patterns such as a $\phi$-q-n pattern. Considering the PD measurement in the field, it is not so easy to acquire absolute phase angles of PD pulses. As a consequence, one of the significant problems to be solved in applying the neural network algorithm to practical systems is to develop a method that can discriminate phase-shifted $\phi$-q-n patterns. Therefore, authors established a new method which could convert phase-shifted $\phi$-q-n patterns to a standardized $\phi$-q-n pattern which was not influenced by phase shifting. This new standardization method improved the recognition performance of a neural network for the phase-shifted $\phi$-q-n patterns considerably.

  • Moire topography method is a well-known non-contacting 3-D measurement method. Recently, the automatic 3-D measurement by moire topography has been required since the method was frequently applied to the engineering and medical fields. 3-D measurement using digital projection moire topography is very attractive because of its high measuring speed and high sensitivity. In this paper, using different N-bucket algorithm method of digital projection moire topography is tested to measuring object with the 2$\pi$-ambiguity problem. Experimental results prove that the proposed scheme is capable of finding measurement errors that decreased more by using the flour-three step algorithm method than the same step in the phase shifting of different pitchs.

부공간축차법의 효율향상을 위한 연구 (A study on the development of an efficient subspace iteration method)

  • An enhanced subspace iteration algorithm has been developed to solve eigenvalue problems reliably and efficiently. Basic subspace iteration algorithm has been improved by eliminating recalculation of converged eigenvectors, using Krylov sequence as initial vectors and incorporating with shifting techniques. The number of iterations and computational time have been considerably reduced when compared with the original one, and reliability for catching copies of the multiple roots has been retained successfully. Further research would be required for mathematical justification of the present method.
