A low-cost, high-performance 40 Gb/s clock recovery module using a phase-locked loop(PLL) for a 40 Gb/s optical receiver with the clock-hold function has been designed and implemented. It consists of a clock extractor circuit, an RF mixer and a frequency discriminator for phase/frequency detection, a VC-DRO, a phase shifter, and a clock-hold circuit. The extracted 40 GHz clock is synchronized with a stable 10 GHz VC-DRO. The clock stability and jitter characteristics of the implemented PLL-based clock recovery module are significantly improved as compared with those of the conventional open-loop type clock recovery module with a DR filter. The measured peak-to-peak RMS jitter is about 230 fs. When an input signal is dropped, the 40 GHz clock is maintained continuously by the hold circuit.

In this paper, it is proposed how to implement the object detection system which is able to apply to vehicular applications, unmanned facilities, automatic door and others with microwave. As the technology which detects an object with microwave is becoming more popular, it seems impossible to avoid mutual interference and jamming caused by limited frequency bandwidth. The system in this paper detects an object by correlating the code of TX and RX signals with the pseudo-random code having best quality in interference and jamming environment. In order to generate simulant doppler signal for detecting the distance of an fixed object where there is no doppler effect, the phase of TX signal is shifted continually. Also, the saturation of receiver was removed and the error of distance measurement was decreased by controlling the power of TX signal for getting constant RX signal. The proposed system detects a object which ranges from 0.5 m to 2.0 m and informs vocally whether there is the object within 1.0 m or not.

In this paper, the omnidirectional circularly polarized(CP) antenna using arc-shaped mushroom structure with curved branch is proposed. To obtain a vertical polarization and an omnidirectional radiation pattern, the CP antenna uses zeroth-order resonance(ZOR) mode of composite right and left handed(CRLH) transmission line. The horizontal polarization is achieved by the curved branches. Also, the spacing between curved branch and arc-shaped mushroom structure gives the $90^{\circ}$ phase difference between vortical and horizontal polarization. The proposed antenna, therefore, has an omnidirectional CP radiation pattern In the azimuthal plane. The electrical size of the proposed antenna is reduced by 38%, compared with that of the previously presented omnidirectional CP antenna. In addition, the CP antenna is simply designed without $90^{\circ}$ phase shifter and dual feed line. The proposed antenna uses a Bazooka balun for good impedance matching and radiation pattern. To improve 3 dB axial ratio in XY plane, the designed antenna is optimized. After optimization, the measured 3 dB axial ratio in XY plane is observed in $86{\sim}282^{\circ}$.

In this paper, a planar equi-phase power divider is proposed using fixed phase shifters. As the integrability of a phased array antenna increases for accurate beam steering, a conventional method to excite equi-phase signals to all element antennas, extending the feedline, has spatial limitations. Therefore, the planar equi-phase power divider is designed using a defected ground structure with a planar phase shift function without intentional feedline extension. The defected ground structure has been considered for a low insertion loss and a controllable phase shift, whereas the power divider has been designed and implemented with a port-to-port isolation and a planar configuration.

For application to micro fluid control systems such as ${\mu}TAS$ (Micro Total Analysis Systems) and DDS (Drug Delivery Systems), it is very significant to handle precise and minute flow rates with low pressure pulsation. In this study, a novel valveless piezoelectric pump using peristaltic motion with three disk type PZT actuators is presented. The newly devised pump with an effective size of $70mm{\times}60mm{\times}55mm$ has three actuator layers connected in series from inlet to outlet. The PZT actuator has a maximum displacement of 240 ${\mu}m$ and a maximum force of 1.6 N. When the driving voltage for PZT actuators is sequentially applied with a certain phase shift, the pumping is performed by peristaltic motion of liquid volume. The working fluid is shut off without the driving voltage. Three methods for sequential driving are proposed and experimentally investigated. First and second methods utilize an intermittent sinusoidal waveform with phase shift of $90{\circ}\;and\;120^{\circ}$, respectively. Third method uses a rectangular waveform with phase shift of $90^{\circ}$. A controller with multi-phase shifter is designed and fabricated. Then, frequency and voltage-flow rate characteristics and load pressure-flow rate characteristics are experimentally investigated to verify the validity of the developed pump.

This paper presents design and test results of X-Band Transmit/Receive(T/R) module for active phased-array radar. Active phased array radars typically require solid state T/R modules with high output power, low noise figure, high Third Order Intercept(TOI), and sufficient gain in both transmit and receive. The output power of the module is 9 watts over a wide bandwidth. The noise figure is as low as 2.8 dB. Phase and amplitude are controlled by the 6-bit phase shifter and 5-bit attenuator, respectively. Highly integrated T/R module is achieved by using LTCC(Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) multiple layer substrate. The module incorporates a compact digital interface, requires only three supply voltages.

In this work, an aperture-coupled patch array antenna with wideband characteristics was designed and arrayed in a $4{\times}1$ S-band. The designed antenna structure consists of two layers, and it possesses wideband characteristics achieved using coupling between the two layers. The first layer is comprised of four radiation patches and the second layer has an aperture and a ground plane. The antenna structure possesses 15 % wideband characteristics and the center frequency is at 3.2 GHz. A phase shifter was added to the array antenna to enable beam steering. The proposed phase array antenna was fabricated and measured. Our proposed design enables beam steering up to $35^{\circ}$.
The active noise cancellation system offers a better low frequency performance with a smaller and lighter system compared to a passive one. This paper presents an active noise control system capable of reducing the noise in a helmet after attenuating the external noise using the helmet as the passive noise reduction system, which consists of a controller for inverting and compensating the phase delay, a microphone for picking up the external noise, and a loudspeaker for radiating the acoustic anti-phase signal to reduce the external noise. In this paper, external noise can be reduced by noise controller by compensating the phase difference to be 180°in the frequency of maximun value in the amplitude response. The noise of the phase delay covered from 50°to 310°was reduced in this system and it is possible to obtain a noise reduction of up to approximately 20 dB at the ears in the enclosure.

In this paper, we studied the control of the hybrid underwater glider (HUG), which has the advantage of high precision route search function and long-term mission capability. Dynamic modeling of HUG is based on numerical model of the attitude controller and buoyancy engine, thruster. We designed the control part considering the smooth control and precise sailing of HUG. A buoyancy engine capable of inhaling water is designed to control the buoyancy of HUG. And mass shifter carrying the battery was designed for controlling pitching motion of HUG. A control system for controlling the buoyancy engine and the attitude controller was constructed. In order to verify performance, we performed water tank test using manufactured HUG.

This paper suggests a low-complexity frame timing synchronization system for IEEE802.11a wireless LAN systems. The proposed timing synchronization scheme has been implemented by correlating the received OFDM preamble with quantized coefficients composed of {0, ${\pm}$2$^{0}$ , ${\pm}$2$^1$‥‥‥ ${\pm}$2$^{i}$ ), where i is an integer number. The 2$^{i}$ -valued coefficients enable the multipliers in the correlation system to be simplified to i-bit shifters. So we can design the correlation system using shifters instead of multipliers. We estimate the performance of the proposed scheme in comparison with conventional systems under the AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper we show that the complexity can be reduced by 90% while still maintaining a performance comparable to that of the conventional system.
