  • This study investigated design factors and removal efficiencies of a sheet flow channel as natural type water improvement techniques in the stream. The channel was designed considering the design factors, then constructed and monitored in the test bed of the Osan stream's floodplain. Water lever, velocity, discharge, T-P, T-N, and NO3-N were monitored and the removal efficiencies and design formula were suggested. Overall efficiencies of T-P, T-N, and NO3-N range 10 - 20%, and they show consistent relations with residence times. Minimum velocity requirement is also suggested from the relation of algae conditions and velocities. Relation formula of residence time and removal efficiency will be applicable in the design and operation process of a sheet flow channel.

  • This research is an experimental investigation of the region of the Biased Flow. This experiment was carried out in a circulating water channel, and the results are analyzed by using the PIV technique. The results are presented in velocity vector field, velocity contour and vorticity contour. The results were compared with those of Zdravkovich which were carried out in a wind tunnel. These results will be very useful to verify numerical codes.

  • An experimental study was carried out in a cavity with upper channel and square heat surface by visualization equipment with Mach-Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. The visualization system consists of 2-dimensional sheet light by Argon-Ion Laser with cylindrical lens and flow picture recording system. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system(CACTUS'2000). Obtained result showed various flow patterns. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet flow is collided with the counter-clockwise rotating main primary vortex. Photographs of Mach-Zehnder are also compared in terms of constant heat flux.

  • The fluvial sequence developed along the channel margin of meander bends in the midstream of the Yeongsan River consists of channel deposits at the bottom and overbank deposits at the top, and shows a fining-upward trend. The fluvial deposits consist of 7 sedimentary facies, and facies association forms 7 architectural elements. The channel deposits formed as channel bar or point bar. The channel bar deposits consisted of architectural element of gravel bedform were formed by channel lag deposits within the channel; whereas, the channel bar deposits consisted of architectural elements of downcurrent-dipping inclined strata sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and horizontally stratified sets were formed by downstream migration of sand wave or downstream transport of sand by traction current in the upper flow regime conditions within the channel. The point bar deposits consist of architectural elements of down current-dipping inclined strata sets, horizontally stratified sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and laterally inclined and horizontally stratified sets. These architectural elements are thought to have been formed by the combined effects of the migration of sand dunes and the formation of horizontal lamination in the upper flow regime plane bed conditions. The overbank deposits consist of the architectural elements of overbank fine and sand sheet and lens. The overbank fines were formed by settling of mud from slackwater during flooding over floodplain whereas the sand sheet and lens were formed by traction of sands introduced episodically fiom channel to the overbank during flooding.

  • Measurement of concentration distributions of suspended particles in a micro-channel is out of the most crucial necessities in the area of Lab-on-a-chip to be used for various bio-chemical applications. One most feasible way to measure the concentration field in the micro-channel is using micro-LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence) method. However, an accurate concentration field at a given cross plane in a micro-channel has not been successfully achieved so far due to various limitations in the light illumination and fluorescence signal detection. The present study demonstrates a novel method to provide an ultra thin laser sheet beam having five(5) microns thickness by use of a micro focus laser line generator. The laser sheet beam illuminates an exact plane of concentration measurement field to increase the signal to noise ratio and considerably reduce the depth uncertainty. Nile Blue A was used as fluorescent dye for the present LIF measurement. The enhancement of the fluorescent intensity signals was performed by a solvent mixture of water $(95\%)$ and ethanol (EtOH)/methanol (MeOH) $(5\%)$ mixture. To reduce the rms errors resulted from the CCD electronic noise and other sources, an expansion of grid size was attempted from $1\times1\;to\;3\times3\;or\;5\times5$ pixel data windows and the pertinent signal-to-noise level has been noticeably increased accordingly.

  • A comparision was made on the influence of BPSG flow temperatures on the electrical properties in submicron CMOS DRAMs containing two BPSG layers. Three different combinations of BPSG flow temperature such as $850^{\circ}C/850^{\circ}C,\;850^{\circ}C/900^{\circ}C,\;and\;900^{\circ}C/900^{\circ}C$ were employed and analyzed in terms of threshold, breakdown and isolation voltage along with sheet resistance and contact resistance. In case of $900^{\circ}C/900^{\circ}C$ flow, the threshold voltage of NMOS was decreased rapidly in channel length less than $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$ with no noticeable change in PMOS and a drastic decrease in breakdown voltages of NMOS and PMOS was observed in channel length less than and equal to $0.7\mu\textrm{m}$ and $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively. Little changes in threshold and breakdown voltages of NMOS and PMOS, however, were shown down to channel length of $0.6\mu\textrm{m}$ in case of $850^{\circ}C/850^{\circ}C$ flow. The isolation voltage was increased with decreasing BPSG flow temperature. A significant increase in the sheet resistance and contact resistance was noticeable with decreasing BPSG flow temperature from $900^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$. All these observations were rationalized in terms of dopant diffusion and activation upon BPSG flow temperature. Some suggestions for improving contact resistance were made.

  • An experimental study was carried out in a channel cavity with square heat surface by visual¬ization equipment with Mach - Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. The image processing system consists of one commercial image board slit into a personal computer and 2-dimensional sheet light by Argon-Ion Laser with cylindrical lens and flow picture recording system. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system which adopted two¬frame grey-level cross correlation algorithm. Heat source was uniform heat flux(o.4W/cm$^2$, , O.8W/cm$^2$, 1.2W/cm$^2$). Obtained result showed various flow patterns such as kinetic energy distribution. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet flow is collided with the counter-clockwise rotating main primary vortex. • The flow characteristics of a NACA0012 airfoil was investigated in rectangular water circulating channel. The flow patterns around an airfoil at various angles of attack between $0^{\circ}\;and\;30^{\circ}\;at\;Re=1.91{\times}104$ were visualized and measured with 2-D PIV system and laser sheet illumination. Flow behaviors such as velocity distribution, kinetic energy and flow separation etc. around an airfoil were obtained by means of 2-D PIV system. The behaviors show the difference of flow pattern clearly and separation phenomena become more active with increasing angle of attack.

  • The strain state during the continuous confined strip shearing (CCSS) based on ECAP was tackled by means of a two-dimensional FEM analysis. The deformation of AA 1100 sheet in the CCSS apparatus was composed of three distinct processes of rolling, bending and shearing. The pronounced difference in the friction conditions on the upper and lower roll surfaces led to the different variation of the strain component ${epsilon}_13$ throughout the thickness of the aluminum sheet. Strain accompanying bending was negligible because of a large radius of curvature. The shear deformation was concentrated at the corner of the CCSSchannel where the abrupt change in the direction of material flow occurred. The process variables involving the CCSS-die design and frictions between tools and strip influenced the evolution of shear strains during CCSS.
