Centrifuge model experiments were performed to investigate the confining effects of the sheet piles, installed to the sides of soft clay ground treated with sand compaction piles, on the bearing capacity and concentration ratio of composite ground. For the given g-level in the centrifuge model tests, replacement ratio of SCP and the width of surcharge loads on the surface of ground with SCP, the confining effects of installing the sheet piles on the edges of SCP ground on the bearing capacity, change of stress concentration ratio and failure mechanism were investigated. Kaolin, one of typical clay mineral, and Jumunjin standard sand were used as a soft clay ground and sand compaction pile irrespectively. As results of experiments, lateral confining effect by inserting the model sheet piles fixed to the loading plate was observed. For the strip surcharge loading condition, the yielding stress intensity in the form of the strip surcharge loads tends to increase with increasing the embedded depth of sheet piles. The stress concentration ratio was found not to be influenced consistently with the embedded depth of sheet piles whereas the effect of stress intensity on stress concentration ratio shows the general trend that values of stress concentration ratio are relatively high at the initial stage of loading and tend to decrease and converge to the certain values. For the failure mechanism in the case of reinforced with sheet piles, displacement behavior related to the punching failure, settlement right beneath the loading plate occurred since the soil was confined with sheet piles, was observed.

The education should adapt learners well to any changes and have them create something for such a era. Form the point of this view. question sheet was developed for middle school students to improve their scientific creativity. For this study, 146 item questions, which was from chapter 7 about solar system movement in the 3rd grade textbook for middle school students, was developed. For 5 weeks, 142 third graders in middle school were chosen and observed. They were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The teaching model using question sheet was applied to the experimental group, while the traditional teaching model, to the control group. This study compared two groups based on scientific creativity and academic achievement. In both scientific creativity and academic achievement, the group using question sheet showed meaningful differences. This result of the analysis indicated that teaching model using question sheet stimulated student's creative thinking and helped them to achieve a goal of lesson. The teaching model using question sheet can be used as an effective way to increase students' creativity.

This paper presents a method and the experimental measurement system for the determination of Jiles-Atherton model parameters of the 30ZH120 electrical steel sheet. The paper utilizes Epstein Square devices to proceed with the experiment and measurement on a group of hysteresis loops of some certain transformers which use the 30ZH120 electrical steel sheet under two different lap ways. The approach relies on the simulated annealing optimization method in order to minimize the error between the measured and modeled hysteresis curves and yield the best five Jiles-Atherton model parameters. A convenient program, based on the Simulink platform, that can identify the J-A model parameters automatically from the experimental saturated hysteresis loop which is used to model the nonlinear characteristics of the electrical steel sheet, is developed. Research shows that the simulated annealing optimization method gets satisfactory results.

In sheet metal forming numerical analysis, the strain hardening equation has a significant effect on calculation results, especially in the field of spring-back. This study introduces the Kim-Tuan strain hardening model. This model represents sheet material behavior over the entire strain hardening range. The proposed model is compared to other well known strain hardening models using a series of uniaxial tensile tests. These tests are performed to determine the stress-strain relationship for Al6016-T4, DP980, and CP Ti sheets. In addition, the Kim-Tuan model is used to integrate the CP Ti sheet strain hardening equation in ABAQUS analysis to predict spring-back amount in a bending test. These tests highlight the improved accuracy of the proposed equation in the numerical field. Bending tests to evaluate prediction accuracy are also performed and compared with numerical analysis results.

Nonlinear behavior of two-span, continuous composite steel-concrete girders strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) bonded to the top of concrete slab over the negative moment region was evaluated using a non-linear Finite Element (FE) model in this paper. A three-dimensional FE model of continuous composite girder using commercial software ABAQUS simulated and validated with experimental results. The interfacial regions of the composite girder components were modeled using suitable interface elements. Validation of the proposed numerical model with experimental data confirmed the applicability of this model to predict the loading history, strain level for the different components and concrete-steel relative slip. The FE model captured the different modes of failure for the continuous composite girder either in the concrete slab or at the interfacial region between CFRP sheet and concrete slab. Through a parametric study, the thickness of CFRP sheet and shear connection required to develop full capacity of the continuous composite girder at negative moment zone have been investigated. The FE results showed that the proper thickness of CFRP sheet at negative moment region is a function of the adhesive strength and the positive moment capacity of the composite section. The shear connection required at the negative moment zone depends on CFRP sheet's tensile stress level at ultimate load.

Friction between the sheet and tools is one of the important factors affecting the sheet metal forming. Therefore, the clarification of the friction is essential to improve the formability of the sheet. In order to find the effect of material property and lubricant viscosity on the frictional characteristics, tensile test, surface roughness test and friction test are performed. The results showed that friction characteristics are mainly influenced by the surface roughness and lubricant viscosity. A mathematical model of the friction is developed for calculating friction coefficient in terms of surface roughness and lubricant viscosity. The validity and accuracy of the mathematical model of the friction are verified through the experiment and FEM analysis.

This paper presents vector magnetic properties of an electrical steel sheet (ESS) employed for electric machine and iron loss analysis considering the vector magnetic properties of the ESS. The vector magnetic properties of the ESS are measured by using a two-dimensional single sheet tester and modeled by an E&S vector hysteresis model to be applied to finite element method. The finite element analysis considering the vector magnetic properties is applied to iron loss analysis of a three-phase induction motor model, and the influences of the vector magnetic properties on the iron loss distribution are verified by comparing with numerical results from a typical B-H curve model.

A method for extracting material information on sheet metal parts from an assembly model is proposed. In order to estimate the cost and order the required sheet metals, their outline profiles, thicknesses, quantities, and etc. are needed. The proposed method consists of two steps: First, sheet metal parts are selected through a feature recognition process from an assembly model. Then, some geometric information for the parts is calculated. In the later step a flattening process of bent parts is included. The method is implemented on a commercial CAD/CAM system Unigraphics with API routines and applied to steam turbine generators and large scale boilers.

In order to study the performance of levees reinforced with steel sheet piles under high water condition, a series of model tests was conducted by simulating the high water condition before and after applying severe seismic loading history. As a result, the seepage behavior through the subsoil layers underlying the levee was not significantly affected by the seismic loading history. It was also verified that, irrespective of the seismic loading history, the sheet piles installed at the levee crest or shoulder are effective in preventing the breakage of levees caused by overflow. In addition, applicability of drainage works at the foot of the levee in preventing the seepage failure was confirmed.
The influence of protecting groups on the β-sheet-structure-stability of protected peptides was studied in organic solvents. α-amino groups, carboxyl groups and side chain functional groups of model peptides were protected by suitable groups commonly used in peptide synthesis. The difference of the solubilities of model peptides was investigated by the solvent-titration method by using IR absorption spectra. The β-sheet structure of model peptide in CH2Cl2 was easily disrupted by increasing the amounts of DMSO. The β-sheet-structure-stabilizing potentials of each protecting group showed similar behaviors except Npys, Mts and Z2. The result exhibits that the < SPβ > values of protected peptides are almost independent of the kinds of their protecting groups.
