  • For two-dimensional grid electrodes immersed in plasmas, sheath expansion due to negative high-voltage pulse applied to the electrode generates high-energy pseudowave. The high-energy pseudowave can be used as ion beam for ion implantation. To estimate ion dose due to high-energy pseudowave, investigation on sheath expansion of grid electroes is necessary. To investigate sheath expansion, an analytic model was developed by Vlasov equation and applying the 1-D sheath expansion model to 2-D. Because of lack of generalized 2-D Child-Langmuir current, model cannot give solvable equation. Instead, for a given grid electrode geometry, the model found the relations between ion distribution functions, Child-Langmuir currents, and sheath expansions. With these relations and particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, for given grid electrode geometry, computation time was greatly reduced for various conditions such as electrode voltages, plasma densities, and ion species. The model was examined by PIC simulations and experiments, and they well agreed.

  • The CANDU element bowing is attributed to actions of both the thermally induced bending moments and the bending moment due to hydraulic drag and mechanical loads, where the bowing is defined as the lateral deflection of an element from the axial centerline. This paper consider only the thermally-induced bending moments which are generated both within the sheath and the fuel and sheath by an asymmetric temperature distribution with respect to the axis of an element The generalized and explicit analytical formula for the thermally-induced bending is presented in con-sideration of 1) bending of an empty tube treated by neglecting the fuel/sheath mechanical interaction and 2) fuel/sheath interaction due to the pellet and sheath temperature variations, where in each case the temperature asymmetries in sheath are modelled to be caused by the combined effects of (i) non-uniform coolant temperature due to imperfect coolant mixing, (ii) variable sheath/coolant heat transfer coefficient, (iii) asymmetric heat generation due to neutron flux gradients across an element and so as to inclusively cover the uniform temperature distributions within the fuel and sheath with respect to the axial centerline. As the results of the sensitivity calculations of the element bowing with the variations of the parameters in the formula, it is found that the element bowing is greatly affected relatively with the variations or changes of element length, sheath inside diameter, average coolant temperature and its variation factor, pellet/sheath mechanical interaction factor, neutron flux depression factor, pellet thermal expansion coefficient, pellet/sheath heat transfer coefficient in comparison with those of other parameters such as sheath thickness, film heat transfer coefficient, sheath thermal expansion coefficient and sheath and pellet thermal conductivities.

  • We investigated the thermal and electrical properties of the $B_2O_3-ZnO-Bi_2O_3$ glass system as a sealing material in sheath heater modules. A composition with over 90 wt% $Bi_2O_3$ in the $B_2O_3-ZnO-Bi_2O_3$ system was glassified by controlling the cooling rate. The glass transition temperature and thermal expansion coefficient in bismate glass could be controlled by the minor ingredients of ZnO, $SiO_2$, $BaO_2$, and $K_2O$. The $B_2O_3-ZnO-Bi_2O_3$ glass system bonded well to metal, and bismate glass insulating properties were comparable to those of bismate glass $B_2O_3-ZnO-PbO$ glass system in a sheath heater module.

  • Characteristics of the interface between tube and tube sheet which were formed by explosive expansion and roll expansion, have been studied in the research. The results are as follows: Optimum amounts of explosives for the expansion of Alloy 600 (19.05mm and 15.88mm) were found to be RDX 3.5-8.5g/m. Because explosive expansion caused les strain hardening and increased bounding strength, characteristics of the explosively expanded were better than those of mechanically expanded. As the transition region of the explosive expansion is inactive, the resistance to the stress corrosion cracking increases by 30∼40% compared to the roll and hydraulic expansion.

  • This study deals with interface charactristics of tube and tubesheet of the nuclear steam generator by the explosive expansion in order to take advantage of optimum expansion ratio, pull-out strength and leakage tightness and improvement of the resisitance on the stress corrosion cracking for low residual stress. The paper also show the relationship between roll, hydraulic and explosive expansion. The results obtain are as follows (1) Because of the explosive bonding is to use the high speed pressure and energy by the explosive, workability is good, bonding region is homogenous (2) Expansion ratio is 2.7%, Pull-out strength 850kg, Leakage strength $500kg/cm^2$. Clearance gap is 10~30mm in case of explosive expansion and interface structure of the tube and tubesheet is optimum condition. (3) As the transition region of the explosive expansion is inactive, the resistance of the stress corrosion cracking is increases 30~40% compare to the roll and hydraulic expansion.

  • The explosive forming has been used for many year to expand tubes into tubesheets. this process has demonstrated ability to direct carefully the energy of an explosive to expand tubes into tubesheet holes without damaging the tubesheet and without causing the excessive cold work at the tube I.D. that is normally associated with mechanical expansion. The success of explosive tube expansion provided the background for the development of the explosive tube plug. The main results are as follows : (1) The optimum explosives and explosive qualities are PETN, RDX, HMS and about 18~31gr/ft of explosive plugging in nuclear steam generator. (2) Explosive plugging's thickness is 0.9~1.8mm. If groove of 0.4 mm formed in plug outside, For the hydraulic leakage is go up, explosive plugging of formed groove are applicate tube and tubrplate. (3) Sheath is designed on the polyethylene of low density, In thermal impact test of the $430^\circ{C}$, hydraulic leakage is $300kg/cm^2$. (4) About 10~60mm oxide inclusions are existed on the space of explosive plug and tube protect to the leakage.

  • This research is a new structure of the semiconductor substrate heating apparatus in which the assembly and expansion are possible. The fast thermo-responsive according to the direct heating structure of the heating plate layer adhering closely to the floor side of a substrate and the fast heat loss minimization can be accomplished. Moreover, the contact area of the sheath heater, which is the heating plate layer built-in heating apparatus, is increased, so that it has more heating valid area. There is no problem with the deformation interpreted in the state where it assembles the block of a several of the simulation result structure, the safety, and the stress. In addition, it is confirmed that building a large-size heating block is possible since the temperature deflection of the manufactured plate is lower than the standard value.

  • The copper clad steel wire is used extensively as lead wires of electronic components such as capacitors, diodes and glass sealing lamp because the wire combines the strength and low thermal expansion characteristic of Fe-Ni steel with the conductivity and corrosion resistance of copper. In order to fabricate the copper clad steel wire, several processes including electro-plating, tubecladding extrusion process and dip forming process have been introduced and applied. The electroplating process for the production of copper clad steel wire shows poor productivity and induces environmental load generation such as electroplating solution. The dip forming process is suitable to mass production of copper clad steel such as trolley wire. and need expensive manufacturing facilities. The present paper describes the improvement of the conventional continuous casting process to fabricate copper clad steel wire, which its core metal is low thermal expansion Fe-Ni alloy and its sheath material is copper. In particular, the formation of intermetallic compound at interface between core and sheath was investigated in order to introduce optimum continuous casting process parameter for fabrication of copper clad steel wire with higher electrical conductivity. The mechanical strength of copper clad steel wire was also investigated through wiredrawing process with of 95% in total reduction ratio.

  • Using the principle of damage mechanics, zero-thickness pore pressure cohesive elements (PPCE) are used to simulate the casing-cement interface (CCI) and cement-rock interface (CRI). The traction-separation law describes the emergence and propagation of the PPCE. Mohr-coulomb criteria determines the elastic and plastic condition of cement sheath and rock. The finite element model (FEM) of delamination fractures emergence and propagation along the casing-cement-rock (CCR) interfaces during hydraulic fracturing is established, and the emergence and propagation of fractures along the wellbore axial and circumferential direction are simulated. Regadless of the perforation angle (the angle between the perforation and the max. horizontal principle stress), mirco-annulus will be produced alonge the wellbore circumferential direction when the cementation strength of the CCI and the CRI is less than the rock tensile strength; the delamination fractures are hard to propagate along the horizontal wellbore axial direction; emergence and propagation of delamination fractures are most likely produced on the shallow formation when the in-situ stresses are lower; the failure mode of cement sheath in the deep well is mainly interfaces seperation and body damange caused by cement expansion and contraction, or pressure testing and well shut-in operations.
