PURPOSE. To evaluate the sealing performance of Hybrid Coat and its influence on the shear bond strength of five dentin surface cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Six premolars were pretreated to expose the dentin surface prior to the application of Hybrid Coat. The microscopic characteristics of the dentinal surfaces were examined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Then, 40 premolars were sectioned longitudinally, and 80 semi-sections were divided into a control group (untreated) and a study group (treated by Hybrid Coat). Alloy restoration was bonded to the teeth specimen using five different cements. Shear bond strength was measured by the universal testing machine. The fracture patterns and the adhesive interface were observed using a stereomicroscope. RESULTS. SEM revealed that the lumens of dentinal tubules were completely occluded by Hybrid Coat. The Hybrid Coat significantly improved the shear bond strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) and resin cement (RC) but weakened the performance of zinc phosphate cement (ZPC), zinc polycarboxylate cement (ZPCC) and glass ionomer cement (GIC). CONCLUSION. Hybrid Coat is an effective dentinal tubule sealant, and therefore its combined use with resin or resin-modified glass ionomer cements can be applied for the prostheses attachment purpose.

Since the publication of ACI 318-02, the concrete capacity design (CCD) method has been used to determine the resistance of unreinforced concrete anchors. The regulation of steel-reinforced anchors was proposed in ACI 318-08. Until ACI 318-08, the shear resistance of concrete breakout for an unreinforced anchor during an earthquake was reduced to 75% of the static shear strength, but this reduction has been eliminated since ACI 318-11. In addition, the resistance of a hairpin-reinforced anchor was calculated using only the strength of the steel, and a regulation on the dynamic strength was not given for reinforced anchors. In this study, shaking table tests were performed to evaluate the dynamic shear strength of unreinforced and hairpin-reinforced cast-in-place (CIP) anchors during earthquakes. The anchors used in this study were 30 mm in diameter, with edge distances of 150 mm and embedment depths of 240 mm. The diameter of the hairpin steel was 10 mm. Shaking table tests were carried out on two specimens using the artificial earthquake, based on the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC)'s Regulatory Guide 1.60, and the Northridge earthquake. The experimental results were compared to the current ACI 318 and ETAG 001 design codes.

An investigation was performed to study the matrix cracking and delamination in laminated composite plates due to transverse impact. A model was developed for predicting the initiation of the matrix cracking and the shape and size of impact-induced delamination in laminated composite plates resulting from the ballistic impact. The model consists of a stress analysis and a failure analysis. A transient finite element analysis which was based on the higher-order shear deformation theory was adopted for calculating the stresses inside the laminated composite plates during impact. A failure analysis was used to predict the initial intraply matrix cracking and the shape and size of the interface delamination in the laminates. As a results, a shear matrix cracking which was governed by the transverse interlaminar shear stress occured at the middle layer near the midplane of laminates and a bending matrix cracking which was governed by the transverse inplane stress occured at the bottom layer near the surface of laminates. In a thick laminates, a shear matrix cracking generated first at the middle layer of laminates, but in a thin laminates, a bending matrix cracking generated first at the bottom layer of laminates.

In R.C. flat slab system, a brittle punching failure is a very fatal problem. But there is no generally well-defined answer to the problem and there are wide differences in current practical design codes. therefore, in this study, the factors affecting to punching failure mechanism have been studied to find out the punching shear behavior in R.C. flat slabs by comparing other investigations and practical design codes. Therefore, In this study, the factors affecting to punching failure mechanism have been studied to find out the punching shear behavior in R.C. flat slabs by comparing other investigations and practical design codes. The conclusions in this study are summarized as follows; 1) The factors affecting to punching shear are concrete strength ($f_\alpha$), ratio of column side length to slab depth (c/d), ratio of distance from column center to radial contraflexure (l/d), yield strength of steel ($f_y$), flexural reinforcement ratio ($\rho$) and size effects. 2) It is shown that th use of $\surd{f_{ck}}$in applying($f_\alpha$ to punching shear strength estimation may be more sensitive in high concrete strength. 3) The effects of l/d, ($f_y$, size are no clear in the punching failure mechanism, so in the future, it should be investigated with the effects of various composed load.

A simplified analysis procedure utilizing the strut-tie modeling technique is developed to take a close look into the post-elastic deformation capacity of beam-column connections in ductile reinforced concrete frame structures. Particular emphasis is given to the effect of concrete strength decay and quantity and arrangement of joint shear steel. For this a fan-shaped crack pattern is postulated through the joints. A series of hypothetical rigid nodes are assumed through which struts, ties and boundaries are connected to each other. The equilibrium consideration enables all forces in struts, ties and boundaries to be related through the nodes. The boundary condition surrounding the joints is obtained by the mechanism analysis of the frame structures. In order to avoid a complexity from the indeterminacy of the truss model, it is assumed that all shear steel yielded. It is noted from the previous research that the capacity of struts is limited by the principal tensile strain of the joint panel for which the strain of the transverse diagonal is taken. The post-yield deformation of joint steel is taken to be the only source of the joint shear deformation beyond the elastic range. Both deformations are related by the energy consideration. The analysis is then performed by iteration for a given shear strain. The analysis results indicate that concentrating most of the joint steel near the center of the joint along with higher strength concrete may enhance the post-elastic joint performance.
This paper presents experimental results of advanced investigation carried out on the beams reinforced with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) rebar and stirrups. Twelve beams reinforced with GFRP and one beam with steel reinforcement of size $230{\times}300{\times}2000mm$ were investigated. Longitudinal reinforcement, shear span and spacing of stirrups were the main variables to form the set. In advanced testing three types of strain gauges for steel, composite and concrete surface were applied to observe strain/stress development against the applied load. Live data were recorded from four strain gauges applied on stirrups, one at center on longitudinal reinforcement, two on the concrete surface and central deflection during the test. Although the focus of the paper was mainly on the behavior of GFRP shear reinforcement, other parallel data were observed for the completeness of the test. Design recommendations of ISIS Canada Design Manual (2007), Japan Society of Civil Engineers (1997) and American Concrete Institute (ACI-440.1R-06) were reviewed. Shear design predictions were compared with experimental results in which it was observed that all the three standards provided conservative predictions. However, ACI found most efficient compare to other two there is room to improve the efficiency of the recommendations.
The electrorheology of the HMDA coupled chitosan succinate suspension in silicone oil was investigated. HMDA coupled chitosan succinate suspension showed a typical ER response upon application of an electric field. The shear stress for the HMDA coupled chitosan succinate suspension exhibited an electric field power of 2.0. The experimental results for the HMDA coupled chitosan succinate suspension was found to be an anhydrous ER fluid.

The kinematic and complicance characteristics of torsion beam axle is structurally related to the location and section profile of torsion beam and the span from body mounting point to wheel center. This paper presents the effect of section properties in torsion beam on the structural characteristics and roll behavior of suspension. The structural characteristics is on the maximum stress on the welding area of torsion beam and the roll behavior is on roll steer and roll-camber of suspension which are important for controllability and stability in cornering. Four factors are used for the section design of torsion beam, which are thickness , midline length, are inner radius, and sector half angle . Through the structural and quasi-static analysis made for six torsion beam axle models, it can be noticed that roll steer and the structural durability of suspension are closely related to warping constant and shear center in section properties of torsion beam.
