In this work, a series of molar ratios composed with YD-128 and DDM were chosen based on the viscosity analysis. The mixtures of YD-128 and DDM with the different molar ratios were cured at $170^{\circ}C$ for 15 min followed by post cure at $190^{\circ}C$ for two hours. The thermal properties of the cured samples were investigated with DSC, TGA, DMA, and TMA. The conversion ratio of the mixtures of YD-128 and DDM (1 : 1.1) was calculated by dividing ${\Delta}H$ obtained from DSC experiments for each cured sample by ${\Delta}H$. The TGA data of the cured samples showed that the thermal stability and thermal degradation activation energy were proportional to the amount of DDM in the mixtures. However, the highest tan ${\delta}$, and the lowest thermal expansion data with DMA and TMA respectively were obtained from the stoichiometric mixture of YD-128 and DDM. Furthermore, the different ratio of mixtures were applied to test specimens to be cured at $170^{\circ}C$ to measure single lap shear strength with universal testing machine.

Generally, a modified version of limit equilibrium method can be used to evaluate a slope stability of the geosynthetic reinforced soil slopes. In most cases, resisting effects of geosynthetic reinforcement are dealt with considering an increased shear strength on the potential slip surface. However, it is not clear that the methods satisfy all three equilibrium equations. As we know, the pattern of normal stress distribution along the slip surface is the key factor in calculating the safety factor of slopes. In this study, the new slope stability analysis method in which not only reinforcing effects of geosynthetics can be considered but also all three equilibrium equations can be satisfied was proposed with assuming the normal stress distribution along the slip surface as quadratic curve with horizontal $\chi-coordinate$. A number of illustrative examples, including published slope stability analysis examples for the reinforced and unreinforced soil slopes, loading test of large scale reinforced earth wall and centrifuge model tests on the geotextile reinforced soil slopes, were analyzed. As a result, it is shown that the newly suggested method yields a relatively accurate factor of safety for the reinforced and unreinforced soil slopes.

This paper deals with the fracture simulation of UHPFRC girder with the interface type model. Based on the existing numerical simulation of quasi-brittle fracture in normal strength concrete, constitutive modeling for UHPFRC I-girder has been improved by including a tensile hardening at the failure surface. The finite element formulation is based on a triangular unit, constructed from constant strain triangles, with nodes along its sides and neither at the vertex nor the center of the unit. Fracture is simulated through a hardening/softening fracture constitutive law in tension, a softening fracture constitutive law in shear as well as in compression at the boundary nodes, with the material within the triangular unit remaining linear elastic. LCP is used to formulate the path-dependent hardening-softening behavior in non-holonomic rate form and a mathematical programming algorithm is employed to solve the LCP. The piece-wise linear inelastic yielding-failure/failure surface is modeled with two compressive caps, two Mohr-Coulomb failure surfaces, a tensile yielding surface and a tensile failure surface. The comparison between test results and numerical results indicates this method effectively simulates the deformation and failure of specimen.

Recently developed polyketone fiber has various applications in the mechanical rubber goods as reinforcement because of its good mechanical properties. However, its surface is not suitable for good adhesion with the rubber matrix. Thus, a surface modification is essential to obtain the good interfacial adhesion. Plasma treatment, in this study, has been conducted to modify the surface of the polyketone fiber. The morphological changes of the fibers by oxygen plasma treatment were observed by using SEM and AFM. The chemical composition changes of PK fiber surface treated with oxygen plasma were investigated using an XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). Finally, the effect of these changes on the interfacial adhesion between fiber and rubber was analyzed by using a microdroplet debonding test. By the plasma treatment, oxygen moieties on the fiber surface increased with processing time and power. The surface RMS roughness increases until the proper processing condition, but a long plasma processing time resulted in a rather reduced roughness because of surface degradation. When the treatment time and power were 60 s and 80 W, respectively, the highest interfacial shear strength (IFSS) was obtained between the PK fiber and natural rubber. However, as the treatment time and power were higher than 60 s and 80 W, respectively, the IFSS decreased because of degradation of the PK fiber surface by severe plasma treatment.
This study has conducted to develop new gabion wall systems with vegetation base materials for stream bank stability and rapid rehabilitation. Vegetation base materials are primarily compounded with fine soil, organic composts and peat moss as plant fibers, a water retainer and a soil improver. Normally gabion wall systems resist the lateral earth pressures or stream power by their own weight. Therefore, fill material must have suitable weight, compressive strength and durability to resist the loading, as well as the effects of water and weathering. In this project, 100 to 200-mm clean, hard stones are basically specified, and about 50-mm rubbles are also used. Test application of new gabion wall system carried out in the stream bank of a small stream in the Gwangreung experimental forest, belonging to Korea Forest Research Institute (KFRI) in December 16th, 2006. As a result of the analysis of hydraulic stability of new gabion wall system, gabion wall system has highest threshold shear stress when the gabion wall covered by vegetation. New gabion wall system is highly resistant to sliding and overturning because safety coefficients exceed 1.5. As a result of term of slope stability analysis of new gabion wall system by Bishop and Fellenius methods, stability of stream bank was highly increased after the construction of gabion wall. Therefore, new gabion wall system is effective to stabilize unstable stream bank.
If roads, bridges, buildings, etc. are built on the ground with soft clay or organic soil, there may be a lot of problems in geotechnical engineering such as settlement and stability due to the large settlement and lack of bearing capacity. In extreme cases, it may appear due to shear failure or collapse of the constructed structure, so a ground improvement method is indispensable to increase the strength of the ground and to suppress settlement. In this study, the settlement according to each groundwater level condition was analyzed using the measurement results for the groundwater level conditions, one of the important factors in predicting the settlement in dredged and reclaimed ground, and the groundwater level conditions applied to the settlement analysis were proposed by comparing it with settlement generated 5 years after construction. As a result of the analysis, it is judged that it is reasonable to apply the measured groundwater level during construction and the low water ordinary neap tide (L.W.O.N.T) during load application for the groundwater level in the settlement analysis. In addition, in the case of the dredged and reclaimed ground, it is estimated that the water pressure acting on the clay layer is nonlinear, as the result of the observations of the head of water at the observation points above and below the in-situ clay layer were different.

In this study, the direct tensile properties of amorphous metallic fiber-reinforced cement based composites according to the strain was evaluated. A thin plate-shape amorphous metallic fiber with 15mm and 30mm in length was used. And fiber-reinforced cement based composites were prepared with contents of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0%. The direct tensile test was conducted under the conditions of $10^{-6}/s(static)$ and $10^1/s(dynamic)$ strain rate. As a results, amorphous metallic fiber with a length of 15mm was observed in pull-out behavior from the cement matrix because of the short fiber length and large portion of mixed fiber. On the other hand, amorphous metallic fiber with a length of 30mm were not pulled out from matrix because the bonding force between the fiber and matrix was large due to rough surface and large specific surface area. However, fracture occurred because thin plate shape fibers were vulnerable to shear force. Tensile strength, strain capacity and toughness were improved due to the increase in the fiber length. The dynamic increase factor of L15 was larger that of L30 because the bonding performance of the fiber-matrix interface is significantly affected by the strain rate.
Cement treating technique, such as deep mixing method, has been used widely to stabilize the dredged clayey soil for many years. Despite of its effectiveness in treating soil by cement, several efforts have also been made to try to reduce the side effect of the cement that used to stabilize the dredged clay. However, authors considered that more detailed study on the physical and mechanical properties of lean-mixed soil-cement has been required to establish the design procedure to apply the practical problems. Therefore, in this study, the curing time and mixing ratio was used as key parameters to estimate the physical and mechanical properties including long-term behavior. The unconfined strength of lean-mixed soil-cement increase continuously during curing period, 270 days, while increasing rate becomes low in ordinary cement-treated dredged clay. We also concluded that cement-treated dredging clay shows apparent quasi overconsolidation behavior even in low cement proportion. By this study, fundamental approach was carried out for effective reuse of very soft dredged clayey soil both in mechanical and environmental aspect. It can be also expected that this study can propose a basic design data to use the lean-mixed soil cement.
To study the evolution mechanism of cracks in rocks with multiple defects, rock-like samples with multiple defects, such as strip-shaped through-going cracks and cavity groups, are used, and the crack propagation law and changes in AE (acoustic emission) and strain of cavity groups under different inclination angles are studied. According to the test results, an increase in the cavity group inclination angle can facilitate the initial damage degree of the rock and weaken the crack initiation stress; the initial crack initiation direction is approximately 90°, and the extension angle is approximately 75~90° from the strip-shaped through-going cracks; thus, the relationship between crack development and cavity group initiation strengthens. The specific performance is as follows: when the initiation angle is 30°, the cracks between the cavities in the cavity group develop relatively independently along the parallel direction of the external load; when the angle is 75°, the cracks between the cavities in the cavity group can interpenetrate, and slip can occur along the inclination of the cavity group under the action of the shear mechanism rupture. With the increase in the inclination angle of the cavity group, the AE energy fluctuation frequency at the peak stress increases, and the stress drop is obvious. The larger the cavity group inclination angle is, the more obvious the energy accumulation and the more severe the rock damage; when the cavity group angle is 30° or 75°, the peak strain of the local area below the strip-shaped through-going fracture plane is approximately three times that when the cavity group angle is 45° and 60°, indicating that cracks are easily generated in the local area monitored by the strain gauge at this angle, and the further development of the cracks weakens the strength of the rock, thereby increasing the probability of major engineering quality damage. The research results will have important reference value for hazard prevention in underground engineering projects through rock with natural and artificial defects, including tunnels and air-raid shelters.
We carried out a geological survey to classify the types of mass movement in Danyang Geopark (where various rock types are distributed) and analyzed the mechanical and hydraulic characteristics of landslide materials using a series of laboratory tests. Debris flows occurred in areas of limestone/marble, shale, and porphyroblastic gneiss, and limestone/marble landslides were distinguished from the others through the presence of karren topography. Soil tests showed that soil derived from weathered gneiss, which has a higher proportion of coarse grains, has a higher friction angle, lower cohesion, and larger hydraulic conductivity than soils from areas of limestone/marble, and shale. Rock failure mass movements occurred in areas of phyllite, sandstone, and conglomerate and were subdivided into plane failure, block-fall, and boulder-fall types in areas of phyllite, sandstone, and conglomerate, respectively. The shear strength of phyllite is much lower than that of the other types of rock, which have similar rock quality. The slake durability index of the conglomerate is similar to that of the other rock types, which have similar degrees of weathering, but differential weathering of the matrix and clasts was clearly observed when comparing the samples before and after the test. This study can help establish appropriate reinforcement and disaster prevention measures, which depend on the type of mass movement expected given the geological characteristics of an area.
