The weldability of resistance spot welding of TRIP1180 steels for automobile components investigated enhance in order to achieve understanding of weld fracture during tensile-shear strength (TSS) test. The main failure modes for spot welds of TRIP1180 steels were nugget pullout and interfacial fracture. The peak load to cause a weld interfacial failure was found to be related to fracture toughness of the weld and the weld diameter. Although interfacial fracture occurred in the spot welded samples, the load-carrying capacity of the weld was high and not significantly affected by the fracture mode. Substantial part of the weld exhibits the characteristic dimple (or elongated dimple) fractures on interfacial fractured surface also, dimple fracture areas were drawmatically increased with heat input which is propotional to the applied weld current. In spite of the high hardness values associated with the martensite microstructures due to high cooling rate. The high load-carrying ability of the weld is directly associated with the area of ductile fracture occurred in weld. Therefore, the judgment of the quality of resistance spot welds in TRIP1180 steels, the load-carrying capacity of the weld should be considered as an important factor than fracture mode.

The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the structural performance of various shear walls, such as the hysteretic behavior, the maximum horizontal strength, crack propagation, and ductility etc. under load reversals. For the diagonal reinforced slit and infilled shear wall specimens, it was found that the failure mode shows very effective crack control and crashing due to slippage prevention of boundary region and reduction of diagonal tension rather than the brittle shear and diagonal tension failure. The ductility of specimens designed by the diagonal reinforcement for the slit and infilled shear wall was increased 1.72~1.81 times in comparison with the fully rigid shear wall frame. Maximum horizontal load-carrying capacity of specimens designed by the diagonal reinforcement ratio the slit and infilled shear wall was increased respectively by 1.14 times and 1.49 times in comparison with the standard fully rigid shear wall frame.

During earthquake, reinforced concrete walls show complicated post-yield behavior varying with shear span-to-depth ratio, re-bar detail, and loading condition. In the present study, a macro-model for the nonlinear analysis of multi-story wall structures was developed. To conveniently describe the coupled flexure-compression and shear responses, a reinforced concrete wall was idealized with longitudinal and diagonal uniaxial elements. Simplified cyclic material models were used to describe the cyclic behavior of concrete and re-bars. For verification, the proposed method was applied to various existing test specimens of isolated and coupled walls. The results showed that the predictions agreed well with the test results including the load-carrying capacity, deformation capacity, and failure mode. Further the proposed model was applied to an existing wall structure tested on a shaking table. Three-dimensional nonlinear time history analyses using the proposed model were performed for the test specimen. The time history responses of the proposed method agreed with the test results including the lateral displacements and base shear.

12 RC deep beams with a/d = 1.17 are reported. This paper is to study the effect of vertical and horizontal web reinforcement and web reinforcement arrangement on inclined cracking shear, ultimate shear strength, midspan deflection, and inclined crack width. Test results indicated that web reinforcement produces and arrangement seems to moderately affect inclined cracking shear, ultimate shear strength and crack width. However, addition of horizontal web reinforcement(pv = 0.0085) little or no influence on inclined cracking shear, ultimate shear strength and crack width. The member which vertical and horizontal web reinforcement concentrate on the center web considerably increases in load-carrying capacity.

A mortar-filled rectangular hollow structural section (RHS) can increase a structural section property as well as a compressive buckling capacity of a RHS member. In this study, the tensile performance of newly developed mortar-filled RHS members was experimentally evaluated with various connection details. The major test parameters were the type of end connections, the thickness of cap plates and shear plates, the use of stud bolts, and penetrating bars. The test results showed that the welded T-end connection experienced a brittle weld fracture at the welded connection, whereas the tensile performance of the T-end connection was improved by additional stud bolts inserted into the mortar within the RHS tube. For the end connection using shear plates and penetrating stud bolts, ductile behavior of the RHS tube was achieved after yielding. The penetrating bars increased load carrying capacity of the RHS. Based on the analysis of the load transfer mechanism, the current design code and test results were compared to evaluate the tensile capacity of the RHS tube according to the connection details. Design considerations for the connections of the mortar-filled RHS tubes were also recommended.
Unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings are extensively adopted in many of the growing nations, particularly in India. Window or door openings are required for architectural or functional reasons, which pose a threat to the building's safety. The past earthquakes have shown that the seismic capability of these structures was very weak. Strengthening these unreinforced masonry walls using welded wire mesh (WWM) is one of the most commonly and economical methods. The present experimental study investigates the impact of openings on the shear behaviour of URM walls and the effectiveness of WWM in enhancing the shear performance of masonry wall. In the experimental program 16 specimens were cast, 8 unstrengthen and 8 strengthened specimens, under 8 unstrengthen and strengthened specimens, every 2 specimens had 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% openings and all these walls were tested under diagonal compression. The results show that the shear carrying capacity reduces as the opening percentage increases. However, strengthening the URM specimens using WWM significantly improves the peak load, shear strength, ductility, stiffness, and energy dissipation. Furthermore, the strengthening of the URM walls using WWM compensated the loss of wall capacity caused by the presence of the openings.
The present paper presents a study on the behavior and design of corrugated web steel beams with and without web openings. In the literature, the web opening problem in steel beams was dealt with mostly for steel beams with plane web plates and research on the effect of an opening on a corrugated web was found out to be very limited. The present study deals mainly with the effect of web openings on the transverse load carrying capacity of steel beams with sinusoidally corrugated webs. A general purpose finite element program (ABAQUS) was used. Simply supported corrugated web beams of 2 m length and with circular web openings at quarter span points were considered. These points are generally considered to be the optimum locations of web openings for steel beams. Various cases were analyzed including the size of the openings and the corrugation density which is a function of the magnitude and length of the sine wave. Models without web holes were also analyzed and compared with other cases which were all together examined in terms of load-deformation characteristics and ultimate web shear resistance.
In this paper, an experimental study have been many studies on the propriety of block shear design code. according to limited state design criteria of steel structures recently established in Korea, by an experiment on the joint of H-Beam Flange tension members. The objects of this study were to compare with the results of other studies on block shear rupture mode and ultimate capacity, and to evaluate the propriety of the design criteria. The result is that the joint happened, two types, tension yield-shear ruptures and shear yield-tension ruptures, and the experimental rupture load was 23% higher than the capacity entered in the criteria design code In this criteria, it was found that ultimate strength of block shear of H-Beam Flange was lowly estimated. Therefore, we emphasize the need of estimates on the block shear rupture by carrying out many studies in this field.

Viscosity index improver (VII) is one of the major additives to the modern multigrade lubricants for the viscosity stability against temperature rise. However, it causes shear thinning effects which make the film thickness lessened very delicately at high shear rate $(over\;10^5\;s^{-1})$ of general EHL contact regime. In order to exactly verify the VII's performance of viscosity stability at such high shear rate, it is necessary to make the measurement of EHL film thickness down to $\~100nm$ with fine resolution for the preliminary study of viscosity control. In this work, EHL film thickness of VII added lubricant is measured with the resolution of $\~5nm$, which will give very informative design tool for the synthesis of lubricants regarding the matter of load carrying capacity at high shear rate condition.
In Korea, the construction of the first high-speed railroad on the Seoul-Pusan Corridor has already started 3 years ago, in the paper, an attempt is made to develop reliability-based safety and capacity evaluation models for the computer-aided maintenance of the high-speed railroad bridges. The strength limit state models of PC railroad bridges for reliability analysis encompass both the single failure mode such as bending or shear strength and the combined interaction equations which simultaneously take into account flexures, shear and torsion. Then, the actual load carrying capacity and the realistic safety of bridges are evaluated using the system reliability-based equivalent strength, and the results are compared with those of the element reliability based or conventional methods. It is concluded that the proposed models may be appropriately applied in practice for the realistic assessment of safety and capacity of high-speed railroad bridges.
