This paper describes the varying material model, the analysis method and the software development for reinforced concrete circular columns confined by spiral or hoop transverse steel reinforcement and subjected to eccentric loading. The widely used Mander model of concentric loading is adapted here to eccentric loading by developing an auto-adjustable stress-strain curve based on the eccentricity of the axial load or the size of the compression zone to generate more accurate interaction diagrams. The prediction of the ultimate unconfined capacity is straight forward. On the other hand, the prediction of the actual ultimate capacity of confined concrete columns requires specialized nonlinear analysis. This nonlinear procedure is programmed using C-Sharp to build efficient software that can be used for design, analysis, extreme event evaluation and forensic engineering. The software is equipped with an elegant graphics interface that assimilates input data, detail drawings, capacity diagrams and demand point mapping in a single sheet. Options for preliminary design, section and reinforcement selection are seamlessly integrated as well. Improvements to KDOT Bridge Design Manual using this software with reference to AASHTO LRFD are made.
The magnetic properties of single- and poly-crystalline $La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}MnO_3/Pr_{0.65}Ca_{0.35}MnO_3$ multilayered (ML) films, and composite (CP) $(La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3})_{0.5}(Pr_{0.65}Ca_{0.35}_{0.5}MnO_3$ films, prepared by laser ablation, have been investigated in a wide temperature range. It was shown that the transformation from an incoherent to a coherent interface in the ML films leads to an enhancement of the ferromagnetic coupling between layers and to a single-phase magnetic transition. The amorphous CP films demonstrate a paramagnetic behavior of the magnetization with a sharp peak at $T_{G}\approx$45 K, which was interpreted as the formation of Griffiths phase. A short-term annealing at $750^{\circ}C$ induced the complete crystallization of film, and a recovery of the ferromagnetic and the metal-insulator transitions.

Groundwater and rainwater are the only sources of freshwater in small islands as many islands lack surface water sources. Groundwater occurring in the form of freshwater lens floating on denser seawater is highly dependent on natural recharge from rainfall. A sharp interface numerical model for regional and well scale modeling is selected to assess the sustainability of freshwater lens in the island of Tongatapu. In this study, 29 downscaled General Circulation Model(GCM) predictions are input to the recharge model based on water balance modelling. Three GCM predictions which represent wet, dry and medium conditions are selected for use in the groundwater flow model. Total freshwater volume and number of saltwater intruded wells are simulated under various climate scenarios with GCM predicted rainfall pattern, sea level rise and pumping. Simulations indicate that the sustainability of the freshwater lens is threatened by the frequent droughts which are predicted under all scenarios of recharge. The natural depletion of the lens during droughts and increase in water demands, leads to saltwater upconing under the pumping wells. Implementation of drought management measures is of utmost importance to ensure sustainability of freshwater lens in future.
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), a new green energy, that have various potential applications, such as energy harvesters and self-powered sensors. The output performance of TENGs has been improving rapidly, and their output power significantly increased since they were first reported owing to improved triboelectrification materials and interfacial material engineering. Because the operation of a TENG is based on contact electrification in which electric charges are exchanged at the interface between two materials, its output can be increased by increasing the contact area and charge density. Material surface modification with microstructures or nanostructures has increased the output performance of TENGs significantly because not only does the sharp micro/nano morphology increases the contact area during friction, but it also increases the charge density. Chemical treatment in which ions or functional groups are added has also been used to improve the performance of TENGS by modifying the work functions, charge densities, and dielectric constants of the triboelectric materials. In addition, ultrahigh output power from TENGs without using new materials or treatments has been obtained in many studies in which special structures were designed to control the current release or to collect the charge current directly. In this review, we discuss physical and chemical treatments, bulk modifications, and interfacial engineering for enhancing TENG performance by improving contact electrification and electrostatic induction.

The "information roadway" will give us an impact of new PC based assignments and administrations, yet the unusualness of this new condition will ask for another style of human-PC association, where the PC transforms into a sharp, dynamic and customized partner. Interface administrators are PC programs that use Artificial Intelligence frameworks to give dynamic help to a customer with PC based errands. Operators drastically change the present client encounter, through the similitude that a specialist can go about as an individual collaborator. The operator procures its capability by gaining from the client and from specialists helping different clients. A couple of model administrators have been gathered using this methodology, including authorities that give customized help with meeting planning, electronic mail taking care of, Smart Personal Assistant and choice of diversion. Operators help clients in a scope of various ways: they perform assignments for the client's sake; they can prepare or educate the client, they enable diverse clients to work together and they screen occasions and methods.

Plasma polymerized organic thin films were deposited on Si(100) glass and metal substrates using thiophene and ethylcyclohexane precursors by PECVD method. In order to compare electrochemical properties of the as-grown thin films, the effects of the RF plasma power in the range of 30~100 W. AFM showed that the polymer films with smooth surface and sharp interface could be grown under various deposition conditions. Impedance analyzer was utilized for the determination of I-V curve for leakage current density and C-V for dielectric constants, respectively. To obtain C-V curve, we used a MIM structure of metal(Al)-insulator(plasma polymerized thin film)-metal(Pt) structure. Al as the electrode was evaporated on the thiophene films that grew on Pt coated silicon substrates, and the dielectric constants of the as-grown films were then calculated from C- V data measured at 1MHz. From the electrical property measurements such as I-V and C-V characteristics, the minimum dielectric constant and the best leakage current of thiophene thin films were obtained to be about 3.22 and $1{\;}{\times}10^{-11}{\;}A/cm^2$. However, in case of ethylcyclohexane thin films, the minimum dielectric constant and the best leakage current were obtained to be about 3.11 and $5{\;}{\times}10^{-12}{\;}A/cm^2$.
The Maglev train is operated by levitating from a power of a large number of magnets and moving without direct contact to railway track so that reduces noise and vibration due to mechanical friction. Also, the Maglev passes sharp curves and steep hill without any difficulties. The Maglev has a potential to be an alternative transport system urban areas. For successful commercializing of Maglev, the organization of interface for safety and reliability of third rail system are one of the key considerations. Especially, the components of the third rail system, such as power rail, expansion joints, FRP section insulator, and supporter with epoxy insulator, should be durable, convenient for construction, and easy to maintenance. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the third rail system components and proposes organization of interface for system engineering. The operating tests of KIMM for the proposed third rail system verify the safety. Also, this paper analyzes the life cycle of the system components to improve the system reliability and evaluation.

An investigation of the effects of transverse magnetic field and Peltier effect on melt convection and macrosegregation in vertical Bridgman crystal grosth of Te doped InSb was been carried out by means of microstructure observation, Hall measurement, electrical resistivity measurement and X-ray analysis. Before the experiments, Interface stability, convective instability and suppression of convection by magnetic field were calculated theoretically. After doping 1018, 1019 cm-3 Te in InSb, the temperature of Bridgman furnace was set up at $650^{\circ}C$. The samples were grown in I.D. 11mm, 100mm high quartz tube. The velocity of growth was about 2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/sec. In order to obtain the suppression of convection by magnetic field in the middle of growth, 2-4KG magnetic field was set on the melt. For searching of the shape of solid-liquid interface and the actual velocity of crystal growth, let 2A current flow from solid to liquid for 1second every 50seconds repeatedly (Peltier effect). The grown InSb was polycrystal, and each grain was very sharp. There was no much difference between the sample with and without magnetic field at a point of view of microstructure. For the sample with Peltier effect, the Peltier marks(striation) were observed regularly as expected. Through these marks, it was found that the solid-liquid interface was flat and the actual growth velocity was about 1-2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/sec. On the ground of theoretical calculation, there is thermosolutal convection in the Te doped InSb melt without magnetic field in this growth condition. and if there is more than 1KG magnetic field, the convection is suppressed. Through this experiments, the effective distribution coefficients, koff, were 0.35 in the case of no magnetic field, and 0.45 when the magnetic field is 2KG, 0.7 at 4KG. It was found that the more magnetic field was applied, the more convection was suppressed. But there was some difference between the theoretical calculation and the experiment, the cause of the difference was thought due to the use of some approximated values in theoretical calculation. In addition to these results, the sample with Peltier effect showed unexpected result about the Te distribution in InSb. It looked like no convection and no macrosegregation. It was thought that the unexpected behavior was due to Peltier mark. that is, when the strong current flew the growing sample, the mark was formed by catching Te. As a result of the phenomena, the more Te containing thin layer was made. The layer ruled the Hall measurement. The values of resistivity and mobility of these samples were just a little than those of other reference. It was thought that the reason of this result was that these samples were due to polycrystal, that is, grain boundaries had an influence on this result.

To improve the running safety of a tram operating on a concrete embedded track, a bogie, the core system of the tram, was developed and fabricated. After it was integrated with the prototype car body, a short distance track with a sharp curve and steep gradient was constructed for the test operation. A formula to check the interference of the wheel flange with the track during running was proposed. Based on the results provided by the formula, the track was designed. Another simple formula was derived to estimate the derailment quotient and the wheel unloading ratio. During running on the track, the acceleration of the car body was measured and the interface status between the wheel and the track was monitored by a video system. According to the results calculated by these simple formulas, the derailment quotient and wheel unloading ratio were estimated to be within the safety criteria. In the actual test, no derailment occurred and the measured acceleration satisfied the criteria. Also, there was no interference between the wheel and track. The video monitoring results showed no signs of derailment, such as the climbing of the wheel. The pinion in the center showed good running safety, contacting smoothly with the rack. The measurements of environmental noise proved that the criteria were satisfied.
The bond strength of three types of $TiO_2$ coatings onto fluorine-doped $SnO_2$ (FTO) glass was investigated with the aid of a tape test according to ASTM D 3359-95. Transmittance was then measured using an UV-vis spectrophotometer in the wavelength range of 300 nm to 800 nm to evaluate the extent of adhesion of $TiO_2$ nanorods/nanoparticles on FTO glass. A sharp interface between the coating layer and the substrate was observed for single $TiO_2$ coating ($TiO_2$ nanorods/FTO glass), which may be detrimental to the bonding strength. In multicoating sample ($TiO_2$ nanorod/$TiO_2$ nanoparticle/$TiO_2$ nanoparticle/FTO glass), the tape test was not performed due to severe peeling-off prior to the test. On the other hand, the dual coating sample ($TiO_2$ nanorod/$TiO_2$ nanoparticle/FTO glass) showed minimum variation of transmittance (4%) after the test, suggesting that the topcoat adheres well with the FTO substrate due to the presence of the $TiO_2$ nanoparticle buffer layer. The use of a $TiO_2$ nanorod electrode layer with good adhesion may be attributed to the excellent dye sensitized solar cell performance.
