  • Noise levels of the three subway lines of Busan city have been investigated. Averaged cabin noise of the train has been measured during the train trip for each station. It has been measured with separation of day time (9:00~18:00) and night time (18:00~22:00) measurements but there was no big difference on the measured data. Repeating for the measured data has been confirmed with twice measurements in May and June 2010. Several noise effects to the subway noise levels of Busan are explained. Those are screen door effect, rail road surface condition, subway train type and curvature of railway. Among three subway lines of Busan city, the line 2 is relatively noisy and its reasons are studied. It has been shown that the screen door effect is 10 dB(A) and S shape of sharp curve contributes in high noise level.

  • The failure of composite sandwich joints was experimentally investigated. A total of 30 joint specimens of 5 different types were tested with various fastening methods and core materials. In the NomexTM core sandwich joints, the core shear buckling was commonly observed in all the specimens which was followed by the slope change of the load-displacement curve. After the shear buckling, however, the joints carried additional loads of 50~200% over the buckling loads and then finally failed in the upper face breakage. The joints of PMI foam core showed the shear failure of the core instead of shear buckling and experienced the sharp drop of the carried load. Considering the failure modes, while both the core and face properties are important in the $Nomex^{TM}$ core joints, core shear strength seems to be the critical factor for the foam core joints.

  • In particle radiotherapy, a shape of the beam to conform the irradiation field is statically defined by the compensator, collimator and potal devices at the outside of the patient body. However the target such as lung or liver cancer moves along with respiration. This increases the irradiated volume of normal tissue. Prior discussions about organ motions along with respiration have been mainly focused on inferior-superior movement that was usually perpendicular to beam axis. On the other hand, the change of the target depth along the beam axis is very important especially in particle radiotherapy, because the range end of beam (Bragg peak) is so sharp as to be matched to distal edge of the target. In treatment planning, the range of the particle beam inside the body is calculated using a calibration curve relating CT number and water equivalent path length (WEL) to correct the inhomogeneities of tissues. The variation in CT number along the beam path would cause the uncertainties of range calculation at treatment planning for particle radiotherapy. To estimate the uncertainties of the range calculation associated with patient breathing, we proposed the method using sequential CT images with respiration waveform, and analyzed organ motions and WELs at patients that had lung or liver cancer. The variation of the depth along the beam path was presented in WEL rather than geometrical length. In analyzed cases, WELs around the diaphragm were remarkably changed depending on the respiration, and the magnitude of these WEL variations was almost comparable to inferior-superior movement of diaphragm. The variation of WEL around the lung was influenced by heartbeat.

  • The spalling phenomenon occurs in high-strength concrete when several factors such as sharp temperature increase, high water content, low water/cement ratio and local stress concentration in material combine in the concrete material. On the basis of the factors, the preventing methods from the spalling are known as reduction of temperature increase, preventing of concrete fragmentation and fast drying of internal moisture. In this study, the reduction of temperature increase was proposed as the most effective spalling-preventing method among the spalling-preventing methods. Engineered cementitious composite for fireproof and repair materials was developed in order to protect the new and existing RC structures form exterior deterioration factors such as fire, cloride ion, etc. This study was carried out to estimate the fire-resisting performance of high strength concrete slab or tunnel lining by repaired engineered cementitious composite (ECC) or fiber reinforcement cemetitious composite (FRCC) under fire temperature curve. and them we will descrike the result of HIDA tunnel in Japan.

  • In this paper, micro dried bio-potential electrodes are demonstrated for sEMG (surface ElectroMyoGraphic) signal measurement using conductive epoxy on the textile fabric. Micro dried bio-potential electrodes on the textile fabric substrate have several advantages over the conventional wet/dry electrodes such as good feeling of wearing, possibility of extended-wearing due to the good ventilation. Also these electrodes on the textile fabric can easily apply to the curved skin surface. These electrodes are fabricated by the screen-printing process with the size of $1mm{\times}10mm$ and the resultant resistance of these electrodes have the average value of $0.4{\Omega}$. The conventional silver chloride electrode shows the average value of $0.3{\Omega}$. However, the electrode on the textile fabric are able to measure the sEMG signal without feeling of difference and this electrode shows the lower resistance of $1.03{\Omega}$ than conventional silver chloride electrode with $2.8{\Omega}$ in the condition of the very sharp curve surface (the radius of curvature is 40 mm).

  • Various modifications of manganese dioxide have been discussed in terms of the chemical analysis by differential heating curve. The transformation temperatures of the modifications were observed as follows; ${\alpha}-\;and\;{\beta}-MnO_2$ are both $580^{\circ}C∼650^{\circ}C$, ${\gamma}-MnO_2$is is $405^{\circ}C~605^{\circ}C$ and ${\delta}-MnO_2$is $860^{\circ}C~875^{\circ}C$, respectively. Endothermic peaks appeared at the transformation temperatures mentioned above. The restoration temperatures of transformation is completed depending on the amounts of the given samples, but the temperatures of the top of endothermic peaks are nearly constant. The curves of ${\alpha}-,{\beta}-MnO_2$and ${\delta}-MnO_2$ show small peaks while that of ${\gamma}-MnO_2$ shows a sharp and broad peak.

  • Dilaceration is a developmental disturbance in shape of teeth. It refers to an angulation, or a sharp bend or curve, in the root or crown of a formed tooth. Dilacerations are estimated to occur in 3% of all permanent dentitions. However, the etiology of dilaceration is not yet fully understood. Traumatic injury to the deciduous predecessors and ectopic development of the tooth germ are the two commonly cited causes of this anomaly. The involved tooth is usually the maxillary central incisor and it also shows high prevalence of impaction. At first, We tried to do surgical exposure with orthodontic traction but to no avail. After then surgical repositioning of the dilacerated tooth was performed. Finally, Satisfactory results were obtained at the end of treatment, with improvement in dental esthetics and functional aspects.

  • In this work, the effect of different contents of $Fe_3O_4$ and temperature variation on the electrical conductivity ($\sigma$) in the polar acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)/$Fe_3O_4$ (magnetite) mixture system was investigated. It was found that the percolation threshold concept holds true for the conductive particle-filled composites where $\sigma$ indicates a nearly sharp increase when the concentration of magnetite in the mixture exceeds 22%. The temperature dependence of $\sigma$ was thermally activated below and at the percolation threshold ($P_c$). Magnetite acted as reinforcing and conductive filler for NBR. At room temperature and higher voltages, the electrical current was proportional to the square of voltage ($I{\propto}V^2$) for the composites which contain 30 phr of magnetite. Moreover, it was shown that the composites with magnetite of 50 phr showed the highest tensile strength and elongation at break, which was due to the formation of optimal physical interlock and crosslinking. The results of 100%, 200%, and 300% Young moduli said that the moduli are largely correlated with reinforcement effect of magnetite and viscosity of the blends from torque curve.

  • Flow behaviors of the open channel type flow with its geometric boundary conditions being similar to that of the Multi-Stage-Flash evaporator were studied qualitatively by measuring the velocity distribution. Without a baffle, the flow was in the shape of a simple submerged plane wall jet. At the downstream of this flow, the jet boundary made sharp curve toward the free surface ; this is because the entrainment of the ambient liquid is restricted by the free surface boundary, similar to the Coanda effect. According to the experimental results the level of the free surface appeared to be the most important parameter. The flow with a baffle was in much complicated shape ; especially the recirculating region at the downstream free surface was detected according to the experimental conditions imposed. Inlet liquid velocity, heights of the liquid level and the baffle, and the opening heights of sluice gate of the entrance were the most important parameters in the baffle flow.

  • Experiments for the characterization of inactivation were performed in a series of batch processes with the total coliform used as a general indicator organism based on the chlorine residuals as a disinfectant. The water samples were taken from the outlet of a settling basin in a conventional surface water treat- ment system that is provided with the raw water drawn from the mid-stream of the Han River, The inactivation of total coliform was experimentally analysed for the dose of disinfectants contact time, filtration and mixing intensity. The curves obtained from a series of batch processes were shaped with a general tailing-off and biphasic mode of inactivation, i.e. a sharp loss of bacterial viability within 15 min followed by an extended phase. In order to observe the effect of carry-over suspended solids on chlorine consumption and disinfection efficiency, the water samples were filtered, prior to inoculation with coliforms, with membranes of both 2.5$\mu$m and 11.0 $\mu$m pore size, and with a sand tilter of 1.0 mm in effective size and of 1.4 in uniformity coefficient. As far as the disinfection efficiency is concerned, there were no significant differences. The parameters estimated by the models of Chick-Wat-son, Hom and Selleck from our experimental data obtained within 120 min are: log(N/N$\_$0/)=-0.16CT with n=1, leg(N/N$\_$0/)=-0.71C$\^$0.87/ with n 1 for the Chick-Watson model, log (N/N$\_$0/)=-1.87C$\^$0.47/ T$\^$0.36/ for the Hom model, log (MHo)=-2.13log (1+CT/0.11) for the Selleck model. It is notable that among the models reviewed with regard to the experimental data obtained, the Selleck model appeared to most closely resemble the total coliform survival curve.
