An analytical method for the free vibration of a flexible rectangular plate in contact with water is developed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The plate clamped along the edges is partially contacted with water at both sides. It is assumed that the contained water is incompressible and inviscid. The wet mode shape of the plate is assumed as a combination of the dry mode shapes of a clamped beam. The liquid motion is described by using the liquid displacement potential and determined by using the compatibility conditions along the liquid interface with the plate. Minimizing the Rayleigh quotient based on the energy conservation gives an eigenvalue problem. It is found that the theoretical results can predict excellently the fluid-coupled natural frequencies comparing with the finite element analysis result.
Air foil bearing supports the rotating journal using hydrodynamic force generated at thin air film. The bearing performances, stiffness, damping coefficient and load capacity, depend on the rotating speed and the performance of the elastic foundation, bump foil. The main focus of this study is to decide the dynamic performance of corrugated bump foil, structural stiffness and Coulomb damping caused by friction between bump foil and top foil/bump foil and housing. Structural stiffness is determined by the bump shape (bump height, pitch and bump thickness), dry-friction, and interacting force filed up to fixed end. So, the change of the characteristics was considered as the parameters change. The air foil bearing specification for analysis follows the general size; diameter 38.1 mm and length 38.1 mm (L/D=1.0). The results show that the stiffness at the fixed end is more than the stiffness at the free end, Coulomb damping is more at the fixed end due to the small displacement, and two dynamic characteristics are dependent on each other.

A piezoceramic unimoph actuator can produce a relatively larger actuation force and actuation displacement when a proper compressive load is applied during operation, because the compressive stress causes material nonlinear behavior in the piezoceramic layer and triggers mechanical buckling. In this paper, we examined effects of the actuator under compression on the flapping angle and aerodynamic force generation capability. Effects of wing shape and passive wing rotation angle on the aerodynamic force production were also investigated. The average vertical force acquired by a 2D CFD simulation for an artificial wing showed a good agreement with the measured one by the experiment.
In this paper, a meshfree-enriched finite element method (ME-FEM) is introduced for the large deformation analysis of nonlinear path-dependent problems involving contact. In linear ME-FEM, the element formulation is established by introducing a meshfree convex approximation into the linear triangular element in 2D and linear tetrahedron element in 3D along with an enriched meshfree node. In nonlinear formulation, the area-weighted smoothing scheme for deformation gradient is then developed in conjunction with the meshfree-enriched element interpolation functions to yield a discrete divergence-free property at the integration points, which is essential to enhance the stress calculation in the stage of plastic deformation. A modified variational formulation using the smoothed deformation gradient is developed for path-dependent material analysis. In the industrial metal forming problems, the mortar contact algorithm is implemented in the explicit formulation. Since the meshfree-enriched element shape functions are constructed using the meshfree convex approximation, they pose the desired Kronecker-delta property at the element edge thus requires no special treatments in the enforcement of essential boundary condition as well as the contact conditions. As a result, this approach can be easily incorporated into a conventional displacement-based finite element code. Two elasto-plastic problems are studied and the numerical results indicated that ME-FEM is capable of delivering a volumetric locking-free and pressure oscillation-free solutions for the large deformation problems in metal forming analysis.
Purpose: Four finite element models were constructed in the mandible having a single implant fixture connected to the first premolar-shaped superstructure, in order to evaluate how the shape of the fixture and the implant-abutment connection would influence the stress level of the supporting tissues fixtures, and prosthethic components. Material and methods : The superstructures were constructed using UCLA type abutment, ADA type III gold alloy was used to fabricate a crown and then connected to the fixture with an abutment screw. The models BRA, END , FRI, ITI were constructed from the mandible implanted with Branemark, Endopore, Frialit-2, I.T.I. systems respectively. In each model, 150 N of vertical load was placed on the central pit of an occlusal plane and 150 N of $40^{\circ}$ oblique load was placed on the buccal cusp. The displacement and stress distribution in the supporting tissues and the other components were analysed using a 2-dimensional finite element analysis . The maximum stress in each reference area was compared. Results : 1. Under $40^{\circ}$ oblique loading, the maximum stress was larger in the implant, superstructure and supporting tissue, compared to the stress pattern under vertical loading. 2. In the implant, prosthesis and supporting tissue, the maximum stress was smaller with the internal connection type (FRI) and the morse taper type (ITI) when compared to that of the external connection type (BRA & END). 3. In the superstructure and implant/abutment interface, the maximum stress was smaller with the internal connection type (FRI) and the morse taper type (ITI) when compared to that of the external connection type (BRA & END). 4. In the implant fixture, the maximum stress was smaller with the internal connection type (FRI) and the morse taper type (ITI) when compared to that of the external connection type (BRA & END). 5 The stress was more evenly distributed in the bone/implant interface through the FRI of trapezoidal step design. Especially Under $40^{\circ}$ oblique loading, The maximum stress was smallest in the bone/implant interface. 6. In the implant and superstructure and supporting tissue, the maximum stress occured at the crown loading point through the ITI. Conclusion: The stress distribution of the supporting tissue was affected by shape of a fixture and implant-abutment connection. The magnitude of maximum stress was reduced with the internal connection type (FRI) and the morse taper type (ITI) in the implant, prosthesis and supporting tissue. Trapezoidal step design of FRI showed evenly distributed the stress at the bone/implant interface.
The purpose of this study was the estimation and formulation of orthotropic flexural rigidities considering the deformed shape for a plate stiffened with rectangular ribs. Analytical results of methods modifying the flexural rigidity of the x-direction, the y-direction or both directions were compared at the center, the x-directional quarter point and the y-directional quarter point of stiffened plates loaded at the center. The composite method modifying the flexural rigidity of both directions improves the accuracy compared with the other methods. Moreover, the ratio of modified coefficients for each directional rigidity can be expressed as a function corresponding to each dimension of stiffened plates. The application of modified coefficient functions to various types of stiffened plates with different boundary conditions, aspect ratios and rib arrangement shows that the increment of the error ratio is small compared with examples of this study and the application of proposed functions shows more accurate results than previous methods modifying the flexural rigidity. Therefore, by using the modified coefficient functions proposed in this study, the orthotropic plate analysis of plates stiffened with rectangular ribs can easily achieve more accurate displacement results.
This study is to design and produce a detailed model for volume variety of three dimensional reconstruction images and to evaluate the changes of volume, area and the length of the model in the process of the reconstruction of RTP system. CT simulation was operated at the thickness of 1.25, 2.5, 5, 10mm and average, standard deviation of scan direction(X), thickness(Y), table movement direction(Z), area(A), and volume(V) of the three dimensional volume rendering, were measured according to the shape and thickness of the phantoms. As a result, at the thickness of 1.25, 2.5min, the phantom's shape decreased maximum 0.13cm(p<0.05) to the direction of X, Y, Z and length, area, volume decreased 0.1cm, $0.8cm^2$, $3.99cm^3$ which led to an approximate image of the phantoms. However, at the thickness of 5, 10mm, the phantom of the original form decreased maximum 0.58cm(p<0.05) and volume, area, length decreased maximum 0.45cm, $8.21cm^2$, $11.03cm^3$. Volume varieties according to the thickness and shape of the phantoms have occurred diversely, when CT simulation was operated, and it is considered that a clinically appropriate volume rendering can be obtained only when the thickness is below 3mm.
Ground reaction curve is a very important information for evaluating the side wall displacements and installation time of the tunnle support. The ground reaction curve can be estimated by analytical closed form solutions derived on the supposition of circular section and isotropic stress condition. The conditions of stress field and tunnel configurations, however, are quite different in practice. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the effects of stress anisotropy and tunnel configurations in order to use simply in practical design. This paper describes a study of influence factors in the ground reaction curve. In order to evaluate the applicability of analytical closed form solution in practical design, two sets of parametric studies were carried out by numerical analysis in elastic tunnel behaviour: one set of studies investigated the influence of the K and the other set investigated the influence of the tunnel configurations such as circular and horse-shoe shape. In the studies, K value varies between 0.5 and 3.0, initial ground vertical stress varies between 5~30MPa far each K values. The results indicated that the self-supportability of ground is larger in the ground having lower K value. However, it is suggested that the applicability of closed form solution may not be adequate to determine directly the installation time of the support and self-supportability of ground. It is necessary to consider stress anisotropy and tunnel configurations.

The chine of high speed vessels does not only play a role in changing position when planing but also helps balancing the hull. It also has a great influence on resistance performance. However, designing a chine requires a lot of experience because it is influenced by various factors such as displacement, transom shape, draft and width. Such a design is not based on an empirical formula, but the purpose of this study is to provide basic guidelines regarding the shape of chine through calculation. This design was developed using Yacht-one, a commercial design program, and analysis was performed using Star-CCM+, also a commercial analysis program. Analysis of the hull selected in this study was carried out by Dynamic Fluid Body Interaction (DFBI) method. Analysis of the chine was carried out at chine angles of 15, 16, 17, and 19degrees, at a speed of 30knots. The result indicated that the highest trim occurred at 16 degrees among the four chine angles considered, and the highest heave occurred at 15degree. In terms of resistance performance, minimum resistance was observed at 16 degrees. Consequently, for minimum ship resistance, it is necessary to complete calculations in accordance with the chine angles, ${\pm}2$ degrees from the initial chine angle, which should be carried out a the design stage.

This study is to evaluate how different bearing surface angles of abutment screw affect the mechanical stability of the joint in the conical seal design implant system. Materials and Methods: Internal connection type regular implants, two-piece cemented type abutments and tungsten carbide/carbon-coated titanium alloy abutment screws were selected. Titanium alloy screws with conical ($45^{\circ}$) and flat ($90^{\circ}$) head designs which fit on to abutment were fabricated. The abutments were tightened to implants with 30 Ncm by digital torque gauge. The loading was applied once to the central axis of abutment. The mean axial displacement was measured using micrometer before and after the tightening and loading (n = 5). The abutment was tightened to implants with 30 Ncm and T-shape stainless steel crown was cemented. Then the change in the amount of reverse-torque was measured after the repeated loading to the central axis, and the place 5 mm away from the central axis. Compressive bending and fatigue strength were measured at the place 5 mm away from the central axis (n = 5). Results: Both groups showed the largest axial displacement when abutment screw tightening and total displacement was greater in the flat head group compared to conical head group (P < 0.05). However, there were no significant differences in reverse torque value, compressive bending and fatigue strength (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the abutment screw head design had no effect on two groups regarding the joint stability, however the conical head design affected the settlement of abutment resulting in the reduced total displacement.
